First baseman Aaron Mann knocked a two-run RBI single, which eventually brought in three runs due to a fielding error. by Andy Smith With the dismal weather that hit Long Island yesterday, it’s amazing that some teams were able to get their games in. Fortunately, many of the teams were already way, thus unaffected by cold, windy and rainy conditions. Here’s how it went down… Division-I: Game 1: Hofstra, 7, Delaware, 18 Game 2: Hofstra 6, Delaware, 3 Catcher Kevin Bruggeman got the Pride on the board in the opening frame with an RBI double.  Delaware responded with a six spot in the bottom half of the first inning.  The Blue Hens’ scoring was highlighted by three RBI doubles, one each by left fielder Andrew Amato, center fielder Jake Dunion, and right fielder Brett Lesher.  Delaware piled on seven more runs in the fourth.  Home runs by designated hitter Bryce Greenly, third baseman Joey Lo...

The Division-II teams and some D-III teams are on their Spring Break trips down south enjoying the beautiful weather and a handful of games. Here’s how yesterday’s action went down. It was a very busy day for the local teams. Even some Division-III action got underway on Long Island. Here’s how it went down… Division-I: St. John’s 7, Tulane 3 E8 | 7-3 SJU Make it 12 Ks for Red Storm pitching tonight! @nickcirelli pic.twitter.com/zNSKCr0dCW — St. John’s Baseball (@StJohnsBaseball) February 26, 2023 The Johnnies won their second straight over Tulane led by 13 strikeout by the pitching staff. Joe Mascio started and struck out 10 over 4.1 innings, allowing 3 ER. He was lifted in favor of Tommy Finnegan who threw 1.1 innings of relief. The heavy lifting was done by Nick Cirelli who fired 3 shutout innings, allowing just one hit and 3 strikeouts. The offense was led by Paul Orbon, who went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Here’s how it went down… St. John’s WE HAVE THE LEAD! Aaron Mann, who was a triple shy of the cycle, got the Johnnies going offensively with a 2-R HR in the fourth inning to give them a 2-1 lead. The lead did not last long as Tulane tied it up against Fauci in the home half of the fourth. Catcher Brennan Lambert gave Tulance a 4-2 lead with a 2-R double in the fifth. by Andy Smith It was day 2 of the college baseball season, and although the local Division-I programs have gotten off to slow starts, it was the reigning ECC Champs that provided the bright spots for Long Island baseball. Here’s how it went down… Division-I: STONY BROOK It was another rough day for Stony Brook as they dropped the second game of the series against California State Northridge by a score of 14-4.  The Seawolves could not keep up with the potent Matadors offense who jumped out to a five run lead in the first inning.  The Matadors registered 17 total hits and two home runs.   Despite the loss, first baseman Brett Paulsen was productive at the plate once again, this time with an RBI double.  Senior Brandon Lashley was dominant in relief, throwing a scoreless 3.1 inni...

by Andy Smith It’s the start of a new season ! And with the mild winter, it seems like it flew right by onto baseball season. The Division-Is opened up last night and Molloy will open up today. Without further ado, here’s how it went down… Division-I: St. John’s was the lone local team to get a W as they came out of the gate hot with an impressive 7-6 win in extra innings at Old Dominion. Paul Orbon‘s game-winning RBI single was the difference, as the Johnnies were able to erase a 4-run deficit. David Glancy picked up right where he left off last year, crushing a HR. Chuck Sanzio pitched two innings and earned the winning relief. Sony Fauci started and went four innings, allowing 4 runs (2 ER) and did not factor in the decision.
