On Monday afternoon, Clarke blanked Division, 7-0, in the do-or-die game three. From the start of this game, it was never really close. Judging by the atmosphere on both sides of the stands and the pitching match up, it seemed this was going to be a close game. However, it never was. Colin Diez was handed the ball for Division and Chris Lydon got the start for Clarke. In the bottom of the 1st, Matt DeStefano gave Clarke an early 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly to left field. Chris Lydon helped himself out, driving in a run in the bottom of the...

After tossing 60 pitches on Saturday, Brendan Turton was ready to take the hill on just one day of rest. The ace who’s been phenomenal all season, tossed a complete game shutout allowing six hits. “I came out on one day of rest I was feeling good I only threw 60 pitches last time I was feeling good today. We’re psyched to be going to counties it’s been our goal since the beginning of the season and we can’t wait to get there, we played a good game,” sai...
by Joseph Langan FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2013, THE CLARKE RAMS ARE COUNTY CHAMPIONS!!!! FINAL: Clarke 7 Division 0 pic.twitter.com/pWdOtzXJB7 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 3, 2019 Coach Tom Abruscato and his Clarke High School Rams have been one of the most successful teams on Long Island since the late 90s. Since his start with the Rams 21 years ago Coach Abruscato has compiled quite the resume, 2 New York State Championships, 3 Long Island Championships, 6 county championships, and an overall record of 434-107. After defeating Division for the Nassau Class A championship, Clarke was well on its way to winning their 4th Long Island Title. Sayville’s Brock Murtha had other plans in mind, throwing a no-hitter in a nail-biting 1-0 win to end Clarke’s joy ride. Coach Abr...
(Editor’s Note: Tyler Cox is a 2021 graduate of Clarke HS. He helped Clarke capture the Nassau County Class A Championship in a thrilling series win over Division. Last month, he announced his verbal commitment to West Virginia of the Big-12. He is among the elite hitters in the 2021 class. The following words are his own.) Christmas to me isn’t as much about the presents I receive and the week off from school, but more about the time I get to spend with family and friends. Every Christmas my family and I take the time to open presents and spend the day together, but I feel like the holiday is most enjoyable because of the people I am able to spend my time with. This Christmas I was able to throw with one of my teammates from our county championship team last year, Brendan Turton, w...
Tyler Cox led the team in virtually all offensive categories as a freshman. Coach Abruscato is counting on him for production in the middle of the lineup pic.twitter.com/2rm2r3zgyd — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) January 27, 2019 One thing I noticed from scouring the internet is that West Virginia University loves their northeast players. Their 2019 roster was composed of three New Jersey, three New York, three Pennsylvania and one New Hampshire native. Long Island baseball fans may be familiar with Sam Kessler, a Mt. Sinai-native who was drafted out of West Virginia University by the Detroit Tigers this year. Another Long Island native is soon to join that roster. Clarke HS junior Tyler Cox announced his verbal commitment to West Virginia University on Thursday. The Mountaineers wo...
Nick Campagnuolo drives in CJ Cumbo to give Clarke a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd. pic.twitter.com/Vr17VFbwi0 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 27, 2019 Clarke Baseball had an incredible season in 2019–capturing the Nassau County Class A Championship with a hard-fought series win over Division. It was their first championship since 2013. One of their key pieces this season was SS Nick Campagnuolo. This week he announced his verbal commitment to the University of New Haven, a terrific Division-II program in Connecticut. I had a chance to speak with him and here’s what he had to say… Can you explain the feeling of winning the County Championship? In your opinion, why was the team able to be so successful? Words can’t even describe the feeling of winning ...

CJ Cumbo talks about his dominant performance at the plate today & what it means to give their ace a ton of run support. pic.twitter.com/0afqZb1sta — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 23, 2019 In a battle for the top spot in conference A5, Clarke dominated Island Trees by a score of 11-1. Due to the rain out yesterday, both aces were handed the ball for the series opener. Brendan Turton took the mound for Clarke, and Greg Carita was on the bump for Island Trees. Through the first two innings, it seemed this was going to be a pitcher’s duel. Nine of the first 12 outs of the ballgame were recorded via strikeout. With the top of the lineup due up for Clarke in the third inning, they took advantage. CJ Cumbo began the inning with a lead off double. Tyler Cox stepped up to th...
