In their first matchup, Molloy secured a 6-0 victory powered by a stellar performance from ECC Pitcher of the Year Charlie Cucchiara, who delivered a complete game shutout.  A team that prides itself on its pitching staff, Molloy compiled a 3.77 team ERA, the best in the East Coast Conference and a major reason why they took home the league cha...

Party Like It’s 1998: Queens Captures the ECC For the First Time in 25 Years

For the first time since 1998, Queens College is the ECC Champs! They win it 9-8 in 10 innings on a walk-off pic.twitter.com/6qeecjEjAD — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 13, 2023 Despite losing on Friday and facing elimination, Queens College was able to rattle of three straight wins – including two against the two-time defending ECC Champs, Molloy, and winning their first Conference Championship in 25 years. It was a remarkable day of baseball for everyone that stuck around for both games – which includes 19 innings of baseballs and more runs than you can count. The level of difficulty for Queens College entering today was incredibly high – as they were not only entering the day fatigued from the previous two days, but they needed to face one of the best pitcher...

They defeated perennial powerhouse Franklin Pierce, 6-4, in the deciding game of the NCAA East Regional tournament on their home turf. This game had everything you could want when it comes to a postseason winner-take-all. From lead changes, clutch hits, strong relief work, solid defense, and getting out of jams Molloy versus Franklin Pierce did not disappoint.  Right from the top of the first inning Molloy put the pressure on with the first two batters of the game hitting a single followed by a ...

East Meadow Enters Season With 1 Returning Player from 2019 Playoff Team

Quick trivia question: Who’s the last Nassau County Class AA team – not named Massapequa – to capture a title? That’s right, East Meadow Jets captured the 2016 Nassau County championship before losing to West Islip in Long Island Championship. Head coach John Marciante said they “emptied the tank against Massapequa. We basically had a five-man pitching staff, or maybe even four-and-a-half.” Marciante is East Meadow through-and-through. He captured a County Championship as a player in 1991. He has been on the coaching staff since 1998 and head coach since 2015. He immediately took the program to the height of success in his second season. Since then, they have been successful but unable to reach the mountain top. In 2019, they had a great season. They wen...

Storms & Cucchiara Off the Board: What it Means for the 2019 Class

Two of the top 2019 arms came off the board yesterday only a few hours apart from each other. To make things more interesting, they will not only be staying on Long Island, but will be in the same conference. Here’s my thoughts on both: Michael Storms (Smithtown East 2019) to LIU Post The hard-throwing southpaw Michael Storms warming up looking to keep Smithtown East’s undefeated season going pic.twitter.com/FhMCDM7xYE — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 24, 2018 Storms is a prototypical left-handed pitcher, who relies primarily on his fastball-change up combo. He sits 80-82 MPH, but gets a lot more swings-and-misses than you’d expect with that velocity mainly because there’s enough of a difference between his FB and CH velocity that his FB plays harder tha...

Rob Milopsky Slams The Door With 6-Out Save To Protect 4-3 Victory

Coach Parsolano on his team’s 4-3 victory over Next Level pic.twitter.com/Ljf5WzUA2j — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 10, 2018 When you have an abundance of quality arms, it makes life much easier. LI Titans Head Coach Paul Parsolano made that clear following his team’s 4-3 victory over Next Level Baseball on Tuesday evening at Mitchell Field. He brought in RHP Rob Milopsky (Rocky Point 2019) with runners on 1st & 2nd with 0 out in the 6th inning to protect a 4-3 lead after the previous four batters all reached base via hits to cut the lead to one-run. Milopsky came on and struck out the side in the sixth and cruised through the seventh inning with three ground outs. Milopsky stated that he knew when he came in with runners on he “needed to throw strikes to...

Mike Pokorny’s Big Offensive Day Leads Calhoun to Victory over East Meadow

Mike Pokorny on the 4-2 victory for Calhoun pic.twitter.com/WFSUDXYqGR — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 11, 2018 With Calhoun leading 4-2 in the top of the sixth inning, Tyler Patterson stepped to the plate as the potential go-ahead run. He drove one to deep left and the Calhoun dugout collectively gasped. The ball was caught at the warning track by Jake Edwards to retire the side and also allowed their dugout to breathe a sigh of relief. The game was a match up of two talented pitchers. Charlie Cucchiara, named to our Preseason All-Long Island list, is coming off an All-County season as a sophomore for East Meadow against Mike Porcelli, who was an All-League starter last season. Porcelli allowed consecutive singles to start the game but worked out of the jam unscathed. Ca...
