Generally when Commack-native Charles Galiano gets excited about something, he pursues it relentlessly until it has come to fruition. He wanted to play professional baseball and was drafted (twice) by the Philadelphia Phillies out of Commack HS and the Milwaukee Brewers out of Fordham University. Following his playing career, he was passionate about helping amateur catchers that were hungry to improve so he founded Seven Tool Catching which has since turned into a staple of the Long Island baseball community and has been sold out each year. Next was C25 Training Products, which has helped revolutionize how catchers train – with a variety of weighted baseballs to help catchers improve both their framing and blocking. This has since been implemented by dozens of colleges and profession...
The bar keeps raising for training facilities on Long Island. There is a new home for Team BEAST in Huntington and it is located in what was previously Retro Fitness at 1815 East Jericho Turnpike. The facility is 15,000 square feet and is an upgrade over their previous home just a few miles down the road. The biggest takeaway is that the facility will be centered around player development for players from 8u to college. It is equipped with fully retractable cages opening to full size turf area, a dedicated HitTrax area, standalone pitching lab with Rapsodo, Pro Radar and video. Multiple plyowalls, warm up spaces, locker rooms and a classroom upstairs. Additionally, there will be a physical therapy office near the entrance. It will be the home to BEAST baseball, BEAST softball as well as sp...
It’s been an annual tradition to visit Scout Day at the 7 Tool Catching camp run by former Milwaukee Brewers prospect Charles Galiano. The Commack native has run the camp since 2018 and it has steadily grown each year and now several of the top catchers on Long Island are weekly participants. Yesterday several players of note caught my eye. I wasn’t able to get video of every player but there was a group of about 11 players that will be playing collegiate ball. There were several college coaches on hand and two pro scouts including myself and Larry Izzo of the Mets. During the pandemic every person was overcome with boredom. Many were simply filling those hours with Netflix documentaries like ‘Tiger King’, while others were looking to develop new skills to hopefully profit from. Commack’s Charles Galiano – a former minor league catcher of the Milwaukee Brewers and owner of Seven Tool Catching – fits into the latter. While working at Team BEAST facility in his hometown, Galiano had an idea spring upon him while in the cage. “I thought to myself it’s absolutely crazy nobody has thought to put weighted balls through the machine,” said Galiano. “I knew it was a novel idea and it would be a big hit so I kept my mouth shut and didn’t tell anybody except my family,” he added. The timing couldn...
Yesterday I went down to the Sports Arena in St. James to check out Week 2 of the Seven Tool Catching Clinic run by former Milwaukee Brewers catching prospect Charles Galiano (Commack 2012). It featured 48 high school age catchers running through various timed stations with music blaring in the background. It is all by design from Galiano, who craved the high-intensity atmosphere when he began the clinic back in 2017. Over the past couple years, Galiano has slowly morphed into more of a roving instructor role during the clinic, trusting his go-to assistant Billy Reidel as his right-hand man. He did not hesitate to say he fully trusted him due to his background as a college catcher, teacher and JV baseball coach. The stations included pitching framing, blocking, throws to second and turning...
7Tool Catching clinic getting underway pic.twitter.com/pdzReEtWa6 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) December 17, 2017 The highly-anticipated third year of the Seven Tool Catching clinic is set to return on December 1. Former Milwaukee Brewers farmhand and Axcess Baseball’s All-Decade member Charles Galiano began the company in 2017 and it has quickly grown to the point that the 12-week clinic has two venues and is separated into three age groups (elementary school, middle school and high school). “Electric is the only way to describe it,” said Galiano. “We are really working on continuing to build the atmosphere. That is really what guys love about the program,” he said. The clinic is unique in the sense that it does not resemble the slow tempo or feel of...
A group of young Long Island catchers were treated to high-level education from Milwaukee Brewers catching instructor, Charlie Greene. His responsibility this season was to oversee all aspects of the catchers in the entire organization. He has been with the Brewers since 2004, following a five-year career in the Major Leagues with the New York Mets, Baltimore Orioles, Brewers and Toronto Blue Jays. He was originally hired as the roving catching instructor, but has since been promoted. His responsibilities include everything from working with the catchers on receiving, blocking, throwing, pitch framing, pitch calling, game preparation, daily preparation, off-season training and even building relationships with their pitching staff. He came down to B.E.A.S.T facility in Commack to work with ...
Former Milwaukee Brewers farmhand and Commack native Charles Galiano will be bringing back his Seven Tool Catching Clinic this off-season, after a wildly successful first year. “It’s a product I was extremely proud of,” said the 2012 graduate of Commack and two-time MLB Draftee. “The kids learned a ton, we had a blast and there was great camaraderie between the catchers and the trainers,” he added. The clinic will begin on December 2 and conclude on March 3 for a span 12 weeks. Players will receive baseline test numbers on the first day and track their progression. The clinic is for players grades 3-12. The younger group (grades 3-5, 6-8) will be at Team B.E.A.S.T. facility in Commack while the high school players will be at All Pro Academy in Bellport. The pl...
We continue our countdown of the Top 10 most popular articles from 2017. Yesterday was Part 1 with No. 10-6. You can see that article by clicking here. No. 5: Previewing the Mega Match Up Between Shoreham-Wading River and Wantagh Date: June 5 This was dubbed as the match up of the year between the red-hot bats of SWR led by Brian Morrell and the reigning Class A Champion Wantagh Warriors. It was very surprising to see Anthony Fontana–not Jimmy Joyce–take the mound, but it wound up being a tremendous game anyway. Someone (wink, wink) predicted a 4-3 victory by Wantagh and it was not far off, as the Warriors got to Morrell for 4 runs in the first inning before hanging on to a 4-2 victory to advance to the New York State championship. Full story here. No. 4: Commack Advances to Su...
Building the correct muscle memory from a young age is very important for catchers. It can be close to impossible to reverse engineer years of bad habits. That is why it is crucial, in the opinion of former Milwaukee Brewers catcher Charles Galiano, that players are taught the proper technique as early as possible. Galiano, along with his trusted staff, will be offering their years of knowledge this winter during a 12-week clinic called “Seven Tool Catching“. The clinic will be hosted at BEAST Facility (6133 Jericho Turnpike, Commack) for grades 3-8 and All Pro Sports Academy (990 Station Road, Bellport) for grades 9-12. The mission of this clinic to provide players with professional-caliber instruction in small groups with an emphasis on proper technique. “I want music b...
