We are in a new era of college baseball which includes the transfer portal acting as free agency for the big Division-I programs. The reality is that it benefits the Power 5 programs much more than our local teams. In certain cases, however, a program like St. John’s could utilize the transfer portal and upgrade their roster with a player that has excelled at the Division-II level. Garrett Scavelli, a player that thoroughly dominated at Molloy University on his way to being named the 2023 ECC Player of the Year, entered the transfer portal in that summer. Over his 3 year career, he slashed .357/.458/.562 with 121 runs scored, 92 RBIs and 60 extra-base hits. It was a major talking point from local coaches who obviously were interested in Scavelli’s services, but also in the situ...
B3: Carey 0 | MacArthur 2 Chase Palma rips a 2-RBI single to give MacArthur the lead. pic.twitter.com/MKhHcXzjk5 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 13, 2024 by Tucker Terranova The Nassau County AA Quarterfinals kicked off with a showdown between the No. 9 Carey Seahawks and the top-seeded MacArthur Generals at MacArthur High School. MacArthur is amidst an impressive spring, boasting a 16-4 record that secured them the No. 1 seed. On the other hand, Carey wrapped up their season with a 15-6 record and earned themselves a spot in the quarterfinals after a convincing 10-1 victory over Mepham in the play-in round. In Game 1 of a best-of-three showdown, the story of the afternoon was the ace of the MacArthur staff, Tyler Bonsignore. Although the southpaw will be heading to Adelphi thi...

Head coach Doug Robins, who is entering his fifth year as head coach of the Seahawks, praised his team’s performance despite being in a very strong league. “We’re in a very competitive league with Division, Garden City and Calhoun,” said Robins. “Looking forward, we only lost two starters to graduation....

Carey finished the league with a record of 15-2-1 and handed Calhoun their only conference loss on a game in which we covered. Overall, they finished with a record of 16-4-1. They had some outstanding performances, including the League MVP – CF Teagan Graham. He batted an even .500 for the season, stole 14 bases and coach said he had the only R...

And then the game really started. Carey’s Ryan Degnan and Calhoun’s Brian Chin were locked in an epic pitcher’s duel that featured dueling no-hitters with a combined 21 strikeouts through six innings. Neither pitcher would blink. Chin did it himself in the top of the seventh inning. He led off with a double to left field in which the throw by left fielder Jayden Gigante beat him, but he was able to slide under the tag to get himself into scoring position to start the inning. The next batter, Charlie Imhof, bunted h...
by Andrew Connors Jack Temple’s 7th inning, go-ahead 3-R HR to propel South Side to the dramatic 8-7 win over Carey pic.twitter.com/ezbTx0uUnA — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 11, 2021 There are two magic words around this time of year and those two words are playoff baseball. The game between the South Side Cyclones and Carey Seahawks on Thursday night was the embodiment of those magic words as it was a back-and-forth dogfight the entire game that resulted in a dramatic 8-7 victory for South Side. Both sides had taken and lost the lead multiple times by the end of the game, but only one was strong enough to come together when it truly mattered. Daniel Russell was the starting pitcher for South Side and he quickly realized that the intensity for this game would be through...
Andrew Zupicich is the @BsbLifestyle101 player of the game as he went 4-4 with a three-run moonshot. He talks about how his team held on to win on Senior Day. pic.twitter.com/ZIejngBNUo — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 7, 2019 On senior day, the Garden City Trojans got the best of the Carey Seahawks by a score of 7-5. With the victory, Garden City improves to a county best record of 13-1 on the season. Right off the bat, it seemed as if this was going to be a blowout. In the bottom of the first inning, RBI from Jay Brown, Jake Fraher and a bases loaded walk provided Garden City with an early 3-0 lead. After nearly batting around in the first inning, this meant that the middle of the Garden City lineup was due up once again in the second. With two runners on base, Andrew Zupicich ...
Jay Schlaefer talks about his team’s dominant performance today and what this win means for Manhasset going forward. pic.twitter.com/IXioK8K9ag — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 15, 2019 Despite the 30 MPH winds, Manhasset brought their “A game” to the ballpark on Monday afternoon as they triumphed to a 6-2 victory over Carey. This marks their first victory of the young season. After being swept by powerhouse Garden City last week, Manhasset wasted no time getting the run support they needed in this one. In the bottom of the first inning, Patrick Jarvis lined a single up the middle to give Manhasset an early 1-0 lead. Jarvis finished the day going 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI. Jay Schlaefer got the start for Manhasset and did a fantastic job of shutting down the...
(Photo Credit: J. Heck/Herald) Led by first year Head Coach Doug Robins, Carey will be looking to take the next step as a program. In recent years, Carey has found themselves in the postseason but hasn’t made it very far into May. Last season, Carey beat Hewlett and Mineola in the first two rounds, but fell to a talented Division team in the quarterfinals. This year they will try to change their fortune. Conference A2 serves as a division with an equal amount of talented teams. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how Carey fits in with their competition. In the past few years, Carey has been known for constantly being among the league leaders in home runs. The reason behind this is because of the big bats in their lineup, along with the short porch in right field. In 2016, Anth...
