The beauty of college athletics is that you get four years to prove yourself. Sometimes it’s a blessing, sometimes it’s a curse and that’s entirely up to the athlete based on his worth ethic. There were a number of players who didn’t perform the way they were hoping to last year–but have committed themselves to proving that was an anomaly. Stony Brook Erases 7-0 Deficit, Storms Back to Win America East

Cooper For the first time since the magical run of 2012, the Stony Brook Sea Wolves have won the America East title.It took an amazing comeback on Saturday, too as they defeated UMBC 16-11. They trailed 7-0 in the first inning after the bats of UMBC roughed up Ryley MacEachern.In the ensuing inning they scored a tournament record 11 runs thanks to RBI hits by Malcolm Nachmanoff and Toby Handley and a slew of walks and errors.The scoring wasn’t done after that. UMBC answered with two in the bottom of the second and that’s when Tim Knesnik came in to put out the fire. Zamora Throws Eight Shutout Innings, Leads Stony Brook to 2-0 Win Over Hartford

Photo Credit: Stony Brook Athletics Daniel Zamora struck out eight over eight shutout innings and allowed just six hits as the No. 1 seed Stony Brook Sea Wolves downed Hartford 2-0 in the first round of the America East tournament.The offense was stagnant over the first three innings, but Andruw Gazzola, who was recently named to the All-Rookie Team, drove in Robert Chavarria with an RBI single to get the Sea Wolves on the board.In the sixth inning, America East Player of the Year, Jack Parenty, led off the frame with a walk. Stony Brook Takes Two of Three From Georgetown

  Photo Credit: Vinny Messana This weekend the Stony Brook Seawolves stayed hot and won two of three at Georgetown to improve to 19-12 on the season. By winning the first two games of the series they had extended their winning streak to nine-straight games but it was thwarted on Sunday with a loss.In Game One, Tyler Honahan continued his strong season by pitching six innings, allowing one ER, allowing four hits, two walks while striking out five.
