Dylan Beirne throws a complete game and seals the deal as the Bandits are the 2020 12U National Brian Moore Memorial Tournament Champions! What an incredible championship Sunday game. pic.twitter.com/AJAcFQmc8u — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 19, 2020 By Salvatore D’Onofrio This afternoon’s championship matchup between the Oil City Bandits and the Long Island Titans did not disappoint. In a back-and-forth game, the Bandits came out on top 6-5 behind a great pitching performance from Dylan Beirne and timely hits for the Bandits. On this hot afternoon at Burns Park in Massapequa, both teams started the game strong. The Bandits and the Titans had to win 2 games this morning to advance to the championship game. This is difficult for any team to play 3 games in one day but wi...
by Ethan Marshall Danny Goodi on his performance today on the mound, at the plate and on the basepaths: pic.twitter.com/oFP1MhQKw8 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 19, 2020 Led by solid pitching and a powerful offensive performance, the Commack Crushers run-ruled the Massapequa Cyclones in four innings by the score of 12-2. All but two of the Crushers’ runs were driven in by the 2-6 hitters in the lineup: Tristan Garcia, Jordan Konig, Ryan Bush, Evan Byrnes and Danny Goodis. Leadoff hitter Luke McDonough worked a walk in all three plate appearances, with two coming on eight-pitch at-bats and another on a nine-pitch at-bat. Konis and Byrnes each homered while Goodis and Khye Addison both contributed RBI triples. Goodis also threw two scoreless innings as the starting pitcher. “I...
Saturday afternoon was the Thomas Morton show as the 12U Dodgers Nation cruised to a 12-2 victory over Batting 1.000 in Day 3 of the Brian Moore Memorial Tournament. The oppressive heat could not contain the hard-throwing RHP and slugger as he dominated to the tune of 10 strikeouts and 3 extra-base hits at the plate. When asked if he’s ever had a game like this before he said, “yes, a few,” and that at the plate he tries to “not swing too hard and just trust my strength.” It certainly worked as he tripled to left field in his first at bat, although they did not get on the board in the first. He struck out the side in the bottom of the first needing just 12 pitches to do so. In the top of the second, Chase Palma led off with a single to left and stole second ba...
Coach Tom Pollatto on his teams performance in their victory over LIB Costello pic.twitter.com/ZrShMDdKQZ — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 18, 2020 By Jared Valluzzi The matchup between Dodger Nation and Long Island Baseball (Costello) was bound to be a good one featuring two teams hungry for a victory. It was the third game of the Brian Moore Memorial Tournament which honors Brian Moore, a beloved NYPD officer who lost his life on duty. For each of these teams they were both looking to get their first win of the tournament. Despite both of these squads not being able to make the playoffs, each team came out firing right away. In the top of the first, it was Dodger nation getting two guys on early but Mike Kalista who was on the hill for LIB (Costello) quickly struck out 2 batt...
The Diamond Spikes manger discussing on how he felt his team played today. pic.twitter.com/HKooDAxOGI — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 17, 2020 by Salvatore D’Onofrio Yesterday’s powerhouse matchup between Long Island Baseball (Costello) and Diamond Spikes did not disappoint. It was both teams’ second game of the Brian Moore Memorial Tournament honoring the late Long Island native Brian Moore who was a decorated NYPD officer killed during action. Coming into Friday, it was a must win for both teams. Long Island Baseball lost a tough game to the Oil City Bandits, 11-2, on Thursday and Diamond Spikes tied with Dodger Nation on Thursday afternoon. On the mound for the Diamond Spikes was right hander Ryan Heidrich. For Long Island Baseball, Joe McGuire took the h...
Final: Massapequa Cyclones 6, Farmingdale Greendogs 2 Walk-off inside the park grand slam in the bottom of the sixth by Bryce Howes@EcybTournaments pic.twitter.com/xhWnkFn09u — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 17, 2020 When you are compiling a list of the most exhilarating moments in a baseball game, there’s two things that are interchangeable at number one and two – a perfect game and a walk-off grand slam. We saw one of those today as Bryce Howes took an outside corner fastball and crushed it down the right field line to allow all three runners to score as well as himself to deliver the 12U Massapequa Cyclones with a 6-2 victory over rival Farmingdale Greendogs in the Brian Moore Memorial Tournament. Howes was doused with water upon crossing home plate by his teammat...
Final: South Shore Elite 5, Wolfpack 0 WP: Ethan Merone @EcybTournaments pic.twitter.com/sdYi7T6vsf — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 17, 2020 Ethan Merone may only be 15 but Wantagh players tend to have a great feel for the big moments. The rising sophomore pitched a gem in the opening game of the sixth annual Brian Moore Memorial Tournament at Allen Park in Farmingdale. His South Shore Elite went up against the 495 Wolfpack with a 6:30 start time on a beautiful summer evening. Merone worked quickly, with the only jam really coming in the second inning when he allowed two walks and a single but escaped the jam with a strikeout and a flyout to left. He didn’t need much offense support but he got some in the bottom of the first when Brian Fader singled and advanced to second...
On a stifling hot afternoon at Mitchel Field, Joe Morreale brought some heat of his own. The rising senior at Seaford HS was lights out–firing a four hit shutout with 10 punch outs to deliver the South Shore Elite to a championship title of the annual Brian Moore Memorial Tournament. Not only was he nearly unhittable but he was extremely economical in this game–never allowing a runner into scoring position. pic.twitter.com/LFoyKoVls4 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 14, 2019 They got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double by Ryan Carroll which scored Kyle Schmitt. It was Carroll once again in the bottom of the third who ripped an RBI single to score Morreale to make it 2-0. That was all the offense he would need on this day, but he was not sa...
By Ethan Marshall The Long Island Sharks overcame a 3-0 deficit to defeat Long Island Baseball 5-3. Sharks catcher Drew McGowan went 2-3 at the plate, scoring the team’s first run and tying the game with a two-run double. Joe Condon threw five shutout innings of relief to earn the win, and drove in the go-ahead run with a RBI single. According to Condon, he felt like he had his best stuff on the mound in the game. “I felt like everything was working,” Condon said. “I was getting my curveball over, I was hitting spots and I was locked in today.” Sharks head coach Jim McGowan like the way his team rebounded after a slow start to the game. “Joe Condon came in and allowed us to stay in the game until the bats came around mid-game,” Coach McGowan said. “His performance was key.” Coach McGowan w...
by Alex Carmenaty The LI Sharks were down 1-0 early, but they knew it was not going to end like that. From the bottom of the 2nd on, they managed to score three unanswered runs to take the lead and eventually shutout the Robins from there. After TJ Harrington gave the Robbins a 1-0 lead in the top 2nd with and RBI single, it was Joey Derose getting an RBI Single of his own, tying things up at 1. Then two batters later it was Rich Stanya drawing an RBI walk, giving the Sharks the Go Ahead Run and the lead. From there, there would be a great showing of defensive baseball as both teams stranded runners on base, struck out a combined five times and a double play was turned by the Sharks, the old fashioned 6-4-3. But in the bottom 4th, Danny Tiedermann would lead off with a double and then Joe ...
by James Ryder On Monday night, the 2019 MLB Home Run Derby took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who was mesmerized by Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s 91 home runs and ultimately exhilarated about Pete Alonso’s 23 home runs to take the Derby crown. On Friday night at Plainedge High School, there were no home runs, but a game between the 13u LI Thunder and the Titans produced nearly the same number of walks with LI Thunder edging out the LI Titans, 7-3. The many walks came thanks to great plate discipline from both teams. However, this does not mean either team went without a few hits and RBI. The Titans got the game started by scoring one run in the top of the first inning following a pair of singles. After the number 2 hitter Matt Cruz hit one to left...
On a cloudy Thursday evening at Mitchel Park Phenom Baseball came from behind to defeat the Kanata Cubs 6-5 on a walk-off single by Michael Kerrigan in a Brian Moore Memorial Tournament matchup. The rain held up for three innings as Phenom Baseball battled the Kanata Cubs, but as the weather turned and the rain began to fall in the top of the fourth, the game took a turn as well. Through the first three innings, the Cubs jumped out to a 5-0 lead and it looked as if they may run away with the game. However, in the top of fourth Phenom Baseball kept the Cubs scoreless, something they couldn’t do in each previous inning. With one out in the inning. Dylan Merpaw was on second for the Cubs and Phenom Baseball’s relief pitcher, Dominic Santagata, struck out Erik Wilson for the second out. Then ...
