Southern Connecticut Defeats Adelphi, 9-6, in Opening Round of NE-10 Tournament

Well, this wasn’t supposed to happen. Hours after getting ranked as the No. 6 Division-II in the nation, Adelphi dropped their first round NE-10 conference tournament game, 9-6, against Southern Connecticut who entered the game with a record of 19-26. Additionally, Adelphi was hosting the tournament and is slated to host the NCAA East Regional next week. They sent Ed Baram (7-1, 0.58 ERA) to the mound but it was not his day. He allowed two HRs in the second inning. Mike DeMartino got it going with a two-run shot to right and Nolan Cloutier followed with one to left to make it 3-0. The game was far from over, though. The Panthers got on the board in the home half of the third on a bases loaded walk to Brandon Warick to score Mike Cattani. In the top of the fourth, Baram ran into troub...

Brett Malm talks about his 2-Run HR that jump started the scorching hot Adelphi offense. pic.twitter.com/Gg803ldSBk — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 20, 2019 Adelphi had no problem handling the talented NYIT pitching staff, as they cruised to a 9-3 victory on Wednesday afternoon. After putting up a ten-spot yesterday against Molloy, Adelphi wasted no time getting back in the run column. To start things off, Brett Malm launched a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 1st inning, giving them an early lead. Malm finished 3-5 on the day with 2 RBI. “We had a good jump out of the game today with a 2-run home run in the 1st inning that helped my team get on the board early,” said Malm. “We kept it going from yesterday and we’re going to keep this momentum going ...

Four-Run First Inning Propels Adelphi to 2-0 Start

With a small window to get the game in on Sunday, Adelphi made the call to schedule a matinee against St. Thomas Aquinas that had been originally cancelled due to the forecast. And with a loaded roster and fresh pitching staff, can you blame them for being excited? They continued the red-hot start to their season with a 7-2 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas. The reigning ECC Champs have stumbled out of the gate and the Panthers took full advantage; sweeping a mini weekend series. Senior Mike Demarest got the start, he was the beneficiary of a four-run first inning by the Panthers offense that included an RBI single by Lawrence Cicileo (more on him later), a bases loaded walk by Tyler Becker and a two-run single by Lucas Terwilliger. Demarest was terrific for four innings of work, he used two...

Ed Baram, Brett Malm Lead Adelphi to Season Opening Win, 5-2, Over St. Thomas Aquinas

Adelphi takes the season opener, 5-2, over St. Thomas Aquinas. Winning pitcher Ed Baram had 10 strikeouts over 5 IP pic.twitter.com/dodjbgdsH1 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) February 28, 2019 If Adelphi is to make it to the NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2011, they will have to win non-conference games against formidable opponents. They had to pass an early test against perennial powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas. The familiar foe proved to be no issue for the Panthers led by senior ace Ed Baram and a three-hit performance by senior 2B Brett Malm. Baram came out of the gate firing 90 MPH cheddar past the Spartans lineup, striking out the side in the first. He finished with 10 over 5 innings of 1-run ball. His offense supported him with two runs in the first inning, coming on a...

Adelphi Scout Day Recap

Panthers counting on another year big from SS Brett Malm who batted .330 last season pic.twitter.com/WSKHTBCpFb — Axcess Baseball (@axcessbaseball) October 26, 2017 This afternoon was Adelphi’s scout day, and I was in attendance. Below are my observations and takeaways from the workout. Pitchers: First off, wow. I had no idea they had this amount of flame throwers. They will have to replace T.J. Santiago, but they appear to have more-than-capable arms in every class. The freshman class specifically is loaded with gunslingers. If they enter Opening Day with this slew of arms, it could be a long year for the NE-10. Ed Baram (junior) will be the ace of the rotation. He compiled 60.0 IP last season with a 2.70 ERA and 4-4 record. He is 6’3″ with a slender build. He ...

Andrew Garcia Throw CG, Malm and Codispoti Smack 2-R HR in Win over Northport

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vz08fO5U7RE]If there was any question whether Pat-Med would have a letdown in the first round of the playoffs, that notion was dispelled quickly with a 5-1 victory over Northport.Brett Malm made a Major League-caliber diving play up the middle on the first batter of the game and in the bottom half of the first, Albany-bound Matt Codispoti deposited a long home run to left center field to give the Raiders a 2-0 three batters into the game. That was all Andrew Garcia would need–he struck out four in a complete game victory for his sixth victory of the season. In the third inning, the Raiders added to the lead when Adelphi-bound Brett Malm drove in Codispoti with a home run to the same spot the catcher hit it to in the first inning. In the fifth in...
