(Editor’s Note: This article originally appeared on March 30, 2017.) If you like pitching duels this one was not for you. Pat-Med avoided a series sweep with a 12-8 win over Sachem East in a wild game that took over three hours and featured several lead changes. The story of the game was Albany-commit Brad Malm smacking a three-run HR in the first inning and also just narrowly missing another one in the sixth inning, that was ultimately a two-run double to put the Pat-Med Raiders up 6-4. “I felt like I was seeing the ball very well and my teammates and I put together a few great innings which helped, not only the pitchers but, the whole team,” said the senior SS. The game was far from over at that point, though. Sachem East bounced back and tied the game on a solo shot by Brendan Rya...
North Fork defeats Riverhead, 3-2, with JC Santini notching the go-ahead hit. He’s our @DigmiNation Player of the Game pic.twitter.com/V3mn546GYd — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 11, 2018 The first seven games of the North Fork Osprey’s season did not go exactly as planned. In fact, things went nearly as poorly as possible. Bill Ianniciello‘s squad opened up the summer with a 0-6-1 record, leaving them in last place in the league. Luckily for the Ospreys, it’s a long summer and thanks to the heroics of JC Santini, the comeback game starts now. The California-native supplied the go-ahead hit in the top of the eighth to give North Fork (1-6-1) a 3-2 victory over the Riverhead Tomcats (3-2-1). It was a pitcher’s duel early at Veterans Memorial Park. Austin Smith got the...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21tXRbacI4k It was a thrilling season on the diamond once again. Between high school and college, we covered 85 games not counting the seven game tournament in the Dominican Republic in February, which featured two teams of Long Island-based All-Stars playing at the beautiful minor league facilities of several Major League teams. You can read about that here. Here are a couple “best of” awards based only on the games that we covered. The annual seniors-only classic began with an early lead for Suffolk, who hosted the event. St. Joseph’s stands could hardly hold the mostly-Suffolk crowd that supported their run manufacturing team, who scored in all but two innings. Rocky Point Head Coach Andrew Aschettino was part of a coaching staff that included two other notable Class A head coaches in Bayport’s Jim Moccio and Mount Sinai’s Eric Reichenbach. “This was a team of studs, this was fun. I told them before the game that they are here for a reason, and go out there and do what you do,” Aschettino said. Kenneth Gordon set the tone for Suffolk working a four-pitch walk to lead off the game. After a couple of fielder’s choices, Brian Morrell busted a line drive single up the middle to drive in Peter Theodorellis from sec...
Final: Pat-Med 4, Hills East 3 WP: Angelo Sciandra No. 3 Hills East is eliminated pic.twitter.com/m2HFo2zlbD — aXcess Baseball (@axcessbaseball) May 19, 2017 To say that Pat-Med came in with the chips stacked against them would be an understatement. As the No. 14 seed against No. 3 seed Hills East, they would have to pull off all their victories on the road. They put a sophomore, Randall Alejo, up against Vanderbilt-commit Matt Hogan and they had a number of sophomores playing prominent roles in the game. None of that mattered, as they pulled off the upset with a 4-3 victory to advance to the Class AA semifinals against Commack beginning on Monday. “We wanted to kind of represent our league, and we did a nice job, we’ve had great at bats for the past few weeks,” said...
It’s hard to have a better inning than Ward Melville sophomore Logan Doran had in the ninth inning. The shortstop made an absolutely stunning diving play with his back to home plate to end the top of the ninth inning and followed it up with a lead off walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to deliver the Patriots a 4-3 victory in a crucial League I match up against Pat-Med. After the game, Doran sounded mature beyond his years when asked about his emotions in such an emotionally-charged game. “I made an error, so I had to come back and make a great play,” said the highly-sought after sophomore. “I just saw a fastball coming up and I put a good swing on it. This is a big rivalry between us,” he added. Final: Ward Melville 4, Pat-Med 3 Sophomore Logan Dora...
