It took Frank Catalanotto one year to do what has never been done in program history and that’s qualify for the NCAA Tournament. The Pride did so in astonishing fashion – winning all four of their CAA Championship games by one run – including three wins via walk-off. Entering the CAA tournament as the No. 2 seed, the Pride defeated Elon, UNC-Wilmington, and Northeastern twice to pull off the improbable. Ryan Levenberg Outduels Brad Camarda, Hauppauge Wins 4-2

Freshman Ryan Levenberg stole the show in today’s League 5 match up between two perennial playoff contenders. Even more impressive, he out dueled 2016 Long Island win leader and Hofstra-commit Brad Camarda. Hauppauge came away with the 4-2 victory over Hills West. “Ryan did a great job of keeping them off balance,” said Head Coach Josh Gutes. “They hit some hard balls–just right at us, so we might’ve been a little lucky in that regard because Hills West is a fantastic team and they’re tremendously well-coached,” he added. The freshman Levenberg went six innings, fanned six batters, allowing just two ER on five hits to record the victory in his first varsity start. He gave way to senior Matt Overton who fired a 1-2-3 seventh inning with two st...

Hauppauge Eagles Quietly Becoming One of Suffolk’s Elite

The Hauppauge Eagles have quietly gone about their business and compiled a record of 36-10 over the past two years. After graduating the 2015 Carl Yastrzemski Award winner in Nick Fanti, they equaled their win total in 2016 and sent five players to play college ball (Tyler Sanderson, Mike Lazos, Tim Woodford, Bily Huber and Kyle Wood). “We’ve been really fortunate to have this run of guys,” said Head Coach Josh Gutes. “They’re really into it. That could easily change. We’ve been lucky more than anything.” They will enter the 2017 season with another quality team headlined by some high-end talent. They will be counting on Molloy-commit Matt Overton to do some damage in the middle-of-the-order and play right field and first base. He hit .314 last yea...
