Brandon Paider took the bump for the Storm and was dominant in his three innings of work. In the first, Brandon was able to get out of the jam by picking up Darlyn Liberato at second-base after his lead-off bunt. In the bottom half of first, the Storm bats lit up. The starting pitcher for the Red Devils Luis Reyes and his defense struggled early as he allowed a lead-off walk, two errors by the Red Devil defense, and two more walks. The Storm was able to take the lead 3-0 because of an RBI double from Will Pellegrino and an RBI single by Brian Baek. This was all for the starting pitcher Luis Reyes. The Storm surge was not done yet. They kept the pressure on by an RBI single from Kevin Juncal and an RBI walk from Ayden Worrell extended the lead to 5-0 after the first. After a scoreless top of the second for the Red Devils, Alex Loprinzi joined in on the hit parade as he also had an RBI infield-single in the second. This allowed the Storm to take a 6-0 lead after two innings of play. This is all Brandon Paider needed. In the three innings that Paider pitched, he struck out four batters, allowing one hit (bunt single), and not allowing a walk. “I felt really confident on the mound today,” said Paider. “I came in wanting to challenge the hitters and give my defense a chance. They had my back tonight and it was a full team effort tonight”, Parker went on to say. In the fourth inning, the Red Devil bats did not have to see Paider anymore. Hard-throwing Miles Tyson came into pitch for the Storm. A lead-off walk from Dylan Liberato and a double by Albert Rodriguez gave the Devil offense a chance to cut the deficit. Erick Aguilera came to plate to do some damage and he did just that. Aguilera hit a ball off the top of the fence to score Liberato and Rodriguez. This cut the Storm lead to four runs. The Red Devils were not done yet. Back to back fielder-choices by the Storm defense allowed Brian Baek and Aguilera to score. This made the deficit 6-4 heading to the bottom half of the fourth. New pitcher Ryan Secilmis for the Storm was able to come in and shut the door in the final two innings for the Storm. After a 1,2,3 inning in the fifth inning, Secilmis needed three more outs to capture the victory for the Storm. A fired up Red Devil offense did not go down without a fight. After a HBP to lead-off the inning, Jay Perelta was able to get a hold of one and hit a laser double through the left-field gap. With runners at second and third with one out, trailing two, and in the last inning, Secilmis needed to make a pitch and get his team out of trouble. Secilmis closed the door on the late threat from the Red Devils with a strikeout and fielding his own position to end the game on a ground ball to himself. The hot start for the Storm was too much for the fiery Red Devils to come back from. Up next for the Long Island Storm (6-4) will be the Long Titans Hough (0-3-1) on Wednesday afternoon at Baseball Heaven. As for the Red Devils (3-5), they also look to bounce back against the Titans as the Red Devils will clash with them next Thursday night at Mitchel Park Field.

The post Big First Inning & Brandon Paider Carries LI Storm Past Red Devils appeared first on Axcess Baseball.

by Salvatore D’Onofrio

The Long Island Storm scored five times in the first inning and never looked back on their way to a 6-4 defeat of the Red Devils in a 16U Boys of Summer game last night at Cantiague Park.

Brandon Paider took the bump for the Storm and was dominant in his three innings of work.

In the first, Brandon was able to get out of the jam by picking up Darlyn Liberato at second-base after his lead-off bunt.

In the bottom half of first, the Storm bats lit up. That was not the case today in a Wednesday matinee between Team Beast and HDMH in the Boys of Summer Collegiate League. The rosters were filled with recognizable names of recent high school graduates from Long Island. With the cancellation of elite collegiate summer seasons around the country, dozens of talented Long Island ballplayers were forced to play local. This adds up to create compelling summer league match ups like today. Chris Manzi took the hill for HDMH against a star-studded Beast lineup. They went to work early in the first inning beginning with a single by James Myler, who stole second to get into scoring position. St. John’s OF Tim McHugh singled and stole second to put two runners in scoring position for Nick Papageorge. He drove them both in with a well-struck single to open up a 2-0 lead. After a strikeout of Tommy Verga, Connor Smalley drove in Papageorge with an RBI single to make it 3-0. Babson-commit Phil Menist took the mound for Team Beast. He fired two scoreless innings to start the game but the bats of HDMH woke up in the third. As is usually the case, things got started with a lead off walk to Matt Lewin. After a flyout to center, Nick LoMonaco drove in Lewin with an RBI single to center. He stole second and wound up scoring on a wild pitch to cut it to 3-2. Jared Yalon double to drive field and stole third base and scored on an RBI ground out to short. After walks to Trevor Adamo and Nick Classie, Braden Clark made them pay with a two-run single to give HDMH a 5-3 lead. If you thought that was it, you were wrong as Team Beast came right back in the home half of the third. James Myler got the inning going with a double to right field and scored on Tommy Verga’s RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-4. After a walk to Matt Polestino, Richie Cimpric ripped a two-run single to regain the lead at 6-5. Louie Carvel came on in relief of Menist, and threw a scoreless fourth inning, but things got interesting in the top of the fifth. Consecutive one-out walks brought up Braden Clark again. He singled home a run to tie up the game, it was a very close play at the plate as McHugh made an outstanding throw to nearly gun him down. Derek Yalon followed right up with an RBI single of his own to make it 7-6 in favor of HDMH. In the bottom of the fifth with the time limit approaching, Tommy Verga led off with a single and advanced on a perfectly executed sac bunt to get the tying run into scoring position. Matt Polestino rewarded Coach Riedel’s decision with an RBI single to score Verga to tie up the game at 7-7. The next two batters were retired but with the time limit upon us, the game was called in a tie. Team Beast won Game 2 by the score of 8-7 in another entertaining affair.

The post Wild Back-And-Forth Affair Finishes In Tie Between Team Beast and HDMH appeared first on Axcess Baseball.

This was supposed to be a prosperous time for pitchers as hitters struggled to get acclimated back to game speed after a four-month hiatus.

That was not the case today in a Wednesday matinee between Team Beast and HDMH in the Boys of Summer Collegiate League. They did the bulk of their damage in the middle innings, as they broke open a 1-1 tie with an RBI single by Kyle Coppola to right field and then Isaiah Gibbs followed that up with an RBI ground out to extend the lead to 3-1. In the bottom of the fourth, they added plenty of cushion to their lead with an RBI single by Evan Loro – who was also the winning pitcher. Ryan Sanabria ripped a two-out, two-run single to open up a comfortable 6-1 lead. Loro, the starting pitcher for Freedom Baseball showed plenty of toughness. “He’s a big game pitcher,” said Coach Coppola. “We’ve talked to him about keeping his pitch count down, instead of going 2-2, or 3-2 to every guy – let’s go after him and get him because he’s got great stuff,” he added. In the top of the first inning, it appeared he may not be long for this game as he loaded up the bases with nobody out after Dean Miller, Rauri Rago and Chris Thomas all reached to start the frame but he was able to bear down and strike out the side to end the inning unscathed. Once again in the second inning, things started off precariously when Nick Harding led off the inning with a single and stole second and advanced to third on Matt Rigogliosi‘s single to left. With his back against the wall and runners on second and third, he struck out the next three batters once again. That’s six strikeouts through two innings for Evan Lora who has stranded five runners Mid 2: Freedom 1, Ducks 0 pic.twitter.com/Y6YH3WxybC — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 14, 2020 In the top of the third, he struck out Dean Miller – his seventh strikeout over 2.1 IP, before issuing a single and two stolen bases to Rauri Rago – who scored on a wild pitch to tie the game up. At this time, the game was very much in question and his pitch count was elevated on a hot afternoon so coach decided to take him out in favor of John Berkery, who was the beneficiary of a perfect relay home on a fly out to center that prevented the go-ahead run from scoring and giving Freedom Baseball an opportunity to let their bats go to work – which is exactly what they did. “To get these kids back on the field is great and to get that first win is huge,” said Coach Coppola. “To see that look is great – it’s what we needed.” The game was ended early due to the time limit. Freedom Baseball improved to 1-2 with the victory while the Ducks dropped to 0-3.

The post Freedom Baseball Defeats Junior Ducks, 6-1 appeared first on Axcess Baseball.

On a sun-soaked afternoon in Holtsville, Freedom Baseball‘s bats were on display in a 6-1 victory over the Junior Ducks in a 13u Boys of Summer match up.

They started southpaw Ryan Schechner (Bellmore JFK 2020) who is coming off an incredible season in which the junior was named All-County. He was efficient, allowing just one walk and a bloop double in his three innings of work tonight. He used a good arsenal of pitches and used his defense, striking out just one batter. His offense went against a tough customer, David Safirstein. After going down scoreless in the bottom of the first, they went to work in the second inning. The first batter was retired but a one-out single by Anthony LoCurto followed by an E4 set the stage for an RBI single by Luke Zuckerman to give the Seminoles an early 1-0 lead. The following batter, Patrick Bartoletta, drove in a run with an RBI ground out to make it 2-0. Erik Maldonado came on in relief of Schechner in the fourth and fired a scoreless fourth and fifth inning. In the bottom of the fifth, an RBI groundout by Zuckerman made it 3-0. The run came around to score when LoCurto walked and stole second to get into scoring position. They also added a run on an E1 in the bottom of the sixth to drive in Ryan Riccio. While the Titans ultimately pulled off the victory, it was somewhat of a shaky start for them. Southpaw Justin Arciniegas was on the mound, and recorded two quick outs. However, he then walked back-to-back batters, and was then unable to make a play on a poorly hit grounder up the third base line. With the bases loaded and two outs, Wilmer Cuevas hit a ground ball up the middle. The Ducks were in luck, as what likely would have been the final out of the inning, actually gave them a 2-0 lead, as the ball struck the second base bag and bounced away from the fielders. Arciniegas was able to regroup, and induced another ground ball, this time for the final out of the inning. The Titans offense answered right back in the bottom of the inning. Dom Crema led things off with a walk, and advanced to second on a groundout. Kyle Chase smashed a triple to left field, putting the Titans on the board. Dylan Banner then hit a hard ground ball under the glove of the second baseman, tying the game up at 2 runs each. Jake Hall eventually drove in Banner on a ground ball to third, giving the Titans a lead they would not relinquish. Arciniegas settled down in the second and third innings, allowing just one batter to reach base, inducing lots of weak contact. In came Dom Persichilli to pitch for the Titans in the 4th inning, continuing to limit the Ducks offense. The bats broke in in a big way for the Titans in the bottom of the 5th inning. Five consecutive batters reached base to start the inning, all eventually coming around to score. The big blow of the inning was a triple off the bat of Persichilli, giving himself a comfortable lead to work with on the mound. He later came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Rocco Hall, extending the Titans’ lead to 9-2, a score that would stand for the remainder of the game. In his three innings of work on the mound, spanning from the fourth inning through the sixth, Persichilli faced just one batter over the minimum. Tim Migliaro was on the mound for the Seminoles who had struggled early in the game. The defense of this Seminoles squad allowed three runs to score in the first two innings that put them in a hole down 3-0. In the bottom of the third inning, pitcher for LIB Enriq, Owen Rose was in a jam himself with bases loaded and no one out. Sean Johnson for the Seminoles stepped up to the plate and smacked the ball down the first base line and sent home three runners to tie the ball game up 3-3. Sean Johnson said, “I had to stay calm, not to be overanxious with those runners on base and no outs. My hit got the team amped up a little bit and it followed in the inning.” The inning had continued for the Seminoles as batters got their swings in. Eric Hensley singled off and sent Johnson home which gave them the lead 4-3. The Seminoles with the offensive energy pulled the trigger again in the inning as Ricky Russo sent two home with a double that put the Seminoles up 6-3. The LIB Enriq squad tried to come back in the fourth inning as they had bases loaded, but they failed to score and put themselves in an offensive slump. Migliaro finally found his throw in the fifth as he struck out the side and kept the lead for his ball team. The defense was locked in after the fifth inning as no one else was able to get on base for LIB Enriq for the rest of the game. Migliaro was relieved in the sixth as Dov Ginzburg had the ball and finished up where Migliaro left off. Ginzburg kept up the heat on the mound and struck out five batters in the game. Coach CJ Ferriggi of the B1000 Seminoles team said, “I preach to the guys, pitch to contact and keep the energy going through the game.” The Seminoles came into the game today with two loses on their record this season, but it didn’t phase them as they secured the victory. Dan Lippman is your Axcess Player of the Game! pic.twitter.com/67ooZC1k8L — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 4, 2019 by Lou Accumanno Everyone on the varsity team of the Long Island Marlins got their licks in against the Seminoles-Smith in a convincing 9-4 victory at Hofstra University. Christian Morgan smacked in two runs in the first inning for the team that put them up 2-0. This ignited the team’s offense early as they continued to score in the second, third, and fourth innings. Bryan Hanlon drove one down the right line that had his brother, Colin Hanlon score which was a big contribution to offensive side of the game. The powerhouse in Lou Sabitino and the speedy Mike McGoey kept the offense rolling by getting on base all three times when up to the plate. What iced the game was a triple that had sent in three runs during the bottom of the fourth by Sophomore, Dan Lippman, which had stretched the lead 9-0. “Hitters hit and we did just that today,” Lippman said. Everyone on the offensive side for the Marlins were locked in and ready to pull that trigger as soon as the ball left that pitcher’s hand. Coach Marlon Artigas of the Long Island Marlins said, “It was a good job by these guys today. We played both sides of the game well and it came up with a big win.” The sophomore, Andrew Moy, had the ball for the Marlins as he didn’t allow any runs to score after being relieved in the fifth. Moy had his stuff working early in the game as he struck out three batters and allowed no one to get on base for three innings. Everyone else on the team picked up their game defensively in the infield and outfield which didn’t allow any offense for the Seminoles to get going early in the game. The Seminoles could not get the ball to fly their way, until Moy was put in a jam with bases loaded in the sixth and was then replaced on the mound by Christian Morgan. The Seminoles went on and had scored four runs total in the sixth and seventh inning. It had looked as if they were going to make a comeback late in the game, but the deficit was just too much to overcome as reliever Morgan quickly wrapped things up to finish the game. The Marlins came into this game today after being defeated in back to back games yesterday. Artigas said, “After the two loses back-to-back yesterday we needed this one.” The Long Island Marlins are now sitting at a 2-2 record for the season.

The post Dan Lippman and the LI Marlins Cruise to 9-4 Victory at Hofstra appeared first on Axcess Baseball.

Dan Lippman tripled in the bottom of the 4th sending three runners home.
