Photo Credit: Greg M. Cooper For the first time since the magical run of 2012, the Stony Brook Sea Wolves have won the America East title. It took an amazing comeback on Saturday, too as they defeated UMBC 16-11. They trailed 7-0 in the first inning after the bats of UMBC roughed up Ryley MacEachern. In the ensuing inning they scored a tournament record 11 runs thanks to RBI hits by Malcolm Nachmanoff and Toby Handley and a slew of walks and errors. The scoring wasn’t done after that. Photo Credit: Vinny Messana Stony Brook swept a DH by the scores of 5-3 and 9-3 and have lowered their magic number to clinch the America East to 2. They lead UMBC by 3.5 games in the standings so any combination of Sea Wolve victories or UMBC losses that add to two will result in Stony Brook getting the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. There are four more regular season games to go. In the first game of the DH, Stony Brook was behind 3-2 after three innings, but tied it up in the fourth when Andruw Gazzolla started the inning off with a triple and he scored on Bobby Honeyman‘s sac fly. In the sixth, they took the lead when Casey Baker hit a one-out triple and he came in to score on a fielder’s choice. That was all the Sea Wolves’ pitching staff would need. Starte...

Written by Jim Ferchland The Stony Brook Seawolves (15-11, 8-2) and the UMBC Retrievers (14-12, 4-4) entered Saturday’s matchup at Joe Nathan Field at the top of the America East Standings. Stony Brook remained hot keeping their five-game winning streak alive with big regards to senior second baseman Rob Chavarria who came through clutch with walk-off single to left field to defeat UMBC 6-5. After suffering a tough loss in game 1 (8-0), UMBC relied on their junior right handed pitcher Conrad Wozniak who flat out dominated the Seawolves. He entered the game with a 1-0 record, 0.90 ERA, 30 innings pitched with 23 strikeouts. He would increase his season strikeout total by fooling Stony Brook’s batters by switching up speeds, keeping them guessing, and was superb with his location. He pitched...
Photo Credit: Vinny Messana It was a wild one in Maine. The Stony Brook Seawolves scored three runs in the top of the 13th, with the go-ahead hit coming on an RBI single by Toby Handley to win 8-5. Written by Jim Ferchland Photo Credit: Jim Ferchland The Stony Brook Seawolves have struggled 18 games into the season–as they sit at 8-10. However, the Sacred Heart Pioneers have an abundance of work to do as they sit at the bottom of the standings at 1-14. Stony Brook and the cold rain were not doing the Pioneers any favors as Stony Brook took down Sacred Heart 8-4 in 6 ½ innings. The game was shortened due to inclement weather. Stony Brook’s junior right-handed pitcher Tim Knesik made his fifth start on the mound today. He struggled through 1.1 innings and was relieved by Nick DiEva, who received the win with 2.2 shutout innings of relief. Sacred Heart’s six-foot nine-inch junior pitcher Connor Landers only pitched one inning and it was a sure nightmare. He was lit up by the Sea...
