Q & A With Blue Chip Collegiate League Player of the Week Kenny Hirschfeld

Kellenberg has been a consistently strong program over the past several years. The highlight was certainly the back-to-back CHSAA Championships in 2016-2017 but they also made it to back-to-back finals in 2021 and 2022 where they ran into Chaminade both years. One of the man contributors on those teams was catcher Kenny Hirschfeld, who is now at New Haven. Kenny is playing in the Blue Chip Collegiate League where he was named Player of the Week after batting .500 with 2 doubles, one HR, 7 runs scored, 4 RBIs and he threw out 2 runners. I had a chance to speak with him and here’s what he had to say… Can you discuss your decision to attend New Haven and how you’e enjoyed your time there? One of the reasons why I chose the University of New Haven was because I knew that the ...

The scoring got started early for the Nor’easters as Jake McCarthy did an excellent job of hanging with a curveball and lined one into center field for an RBI single. After that run both starters, Ryan Shih and Frankie Collora would throw up zeros for the next few innings.  In the top ...

Marc Cisco laced an RBI triple, Mike Manetta hit a sacrifice fly, and Jake McCarthy and Myles Vazquez joined in with back-to-back RBI singles. It was a quick jump out to a four-run lead off starter Mike Pokorny. The Seminoles were quick to make a pitch...

In the second inning, starting pitcher for Team Beast, Russell Silverman, worked through some traffic and escaped a bases loaded jam. Justin Bestler Fires Gem as LI Nor’Easters Capture 2021 Blue Chip Collegiate Title

Justin Bestler fires a 2-hit shutout to propel LI Nor’Easters to the 2021 Blue Chip Collegiate League Championship Final: Nor’Easters 1, Astros 0 pic.twitter.com/DWxHU9BhUf — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) August 9, 2021 If you stopped to take a bathroom break, there’s a good chance you missed a big portion of this one. Southpaw Justin Bestler was magnificent and efficient while firing a two-hit complete game shutout over the LI Astros in a 1-0 victory for the LI Nor’Easters. The game was completed in an incomprehensible 1 hour, 15 minutes – roughly the same time it took for the Indians and Yankees to complete three innings during the ALDS last October. Nobody was complaining about the pace of this game, as it moved along swiftly throughout with both Bes...

Hoskins, NY Nine Use Last Inning Heroics to Get Past LI Storm

by Nicholas Cipolla Game Over! Reed Hoskins rips a single up the middle to give NY Nine a come from behind win in the bottom of the seventh with 2 outs. pic.twitter.com/pkKUxlGx0c — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) August 1, 2021 This game was a classic from start to finish if I would say so myself. In a game that started off as a pitchers duel, we finished with a crazy bottom half of the 7th that swung in favor of NY Nine. In the first two innings, Brayden Martino and Ryan Martino traded zeros and both looked dominant.  Brayden Martino of NY Nine got off to a video game-esque start as he struck out the first seven batters he faced. His Knuckleball was fooling and frustrating the LI Storm hitters for the first 2.1 innings as no one was able to put it in play.  However, that changed in ...
