The only team standing in their way was a team who has made perennial playoff runs; Division. Unfortunately for Bethpage, they could not sneak past them as Division would move on to their second straight Class A championship game. In a cruel twist of fate, the game went 14 innings with the teams fighting tooth-and-nail until Division broke through with a four-spot in the 14th. Despite the season ending prematurely, that should not diminish what the...

FINAL: Division 5 Bethpage 1 (F/14) pic.twitter.com/1DZ0DqayCK — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 25, 2019 It took 14 innings and 3.5 hours, but the Division Blue Dragons are headed back to the County Championship. In the longest postseason game of 2019, they came out on top over Bethpage by a score of 5-1. Throughout this ballgame, it was truly a “game of inches.” In the bottom of the 7th inning, Bethpage trailed by one run. This was where the fun began. Bethpage tied the game at 1-1, with the game winning run on 3rd with one out. On an infield ground ball. Ryan Spreckles slapped down the tag on what would’ve been the winning run at home, keeping the game tied. This forced endless ex...

FINAL: Bethpage 15 VSN 1 Bethpage is headed to the semifinals! pic.twitter.com/Mm65QFvns5 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 21, 2019 With the season on the line, Bethpage annihilated Valley Stream North on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 15-1. Bethpage advances to the Class A semifinals with the victory. After posting a scoreless top of the 1st inning, Bethpage wasted no time manhandling their opponents. With two men on and nobody out, Pete Schimmel launched a three-run home run to give Bethpage a 3-0 lead in the blink of an eye. Brody Paola tacked onto Schimmel’s home run with an RBI of his own. Then, things got ugly. Following the four-run 1st inning, the Bethpage bats exploded even more in the 2nd inning. They scratched across six runs on this occasion, expanding the lead...

Nassau County Class A Playoff Preview (Plus Predictions)

As always, the Class A playoffs will be a roller coaster of emotions. It brings high energy, closely contested match ups and upsets. The factor that makes these playoffs so great, is that there’s 18 teams competing for the ultimate goal of a county championship. As we’ve seen in previous years, there’s been clear favorites heading into the postseason. However, this year, it’s anybody’s title to win. With that being said, let’s take a look at the Class A playoffs. Play-In Games: #18 South Side vs. #15 Island Trees For several reasons, this is a great match up. Not only do both teams have great arms, but they both struggle to hit high-end pitching. For South Side, expect Dan Kelleher to take the mound. Kelleher features a lively fastball, along with the ab...

FINAL: Hewlett 5 Bethpage 1 WP: Anthon Isayov Hewlett is going to the playoffs! pic.twitter.com/0HmsPpnoJi — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 9, 2019 With the season on the line, Hewlett came out on top against Bethpage on Thursday, by a score of 5-1. The victory secures their spot in the Class A playoffs, as they will face Division in the first round on Tuesday. After dropping the first two games of the series against the conference champions, Hewlett knew they needed to jump out to an early lead in order to have a chance. They did just that. With a runner on third and two outs, Antonio Edigio drove a single the other way to give Hewlett the early first inning lead. Edigio would come through for the Bulldogs once again in the 3rd inning, driving in another run. Edigio’s RBI ...

Plainedge Squeaks Past Bethpage, 2-1, In A Thriller

FINAL: Plainedge 2 Bethpage 1 WP: Frank Whitenack pic.twitter.com/Be3LCpJNSM — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 9, 2019 Avenging yesterday’s 8-2 loss, Plainedge came through when it mattered most on Tuesday afternoon as they defeated Bethpage, 2-1. The beginning of the game opposed to the end of the game were two completely different story lines. In the bottom of the first inning, Chris McGuggart launched a solo shot to put Bethpage out in front to an early 1-0 lead. Considering Nick Wendling struck out the side in the top half of the inning, it seemed as if it was going to be a long ballgame for Plainedge. Through the first three innings, Wendling had eight punch outs. Then came the fourth inning. After surrendering just one base runner the first time through the lineup, W...

Bethpage Has Their Eyes Set Towards A Shot At The Conference Title This Season

The most vital piece in a successful season is often experience. Returning several key players this year, the Bethpage Golden Eagles have their eyes on a shot at the conference title. For many reasons, they can be considered one of the two favorites in Conference A2. After the “catch of the year” in their play-in game against South Side and a win against the #4 seeded Clarke to start off their postseason in 2018, Bethpage seemed ready to shock the world. Unfortunately, they had a disappointing end to their season as they lost the next two games causing them to be eliminated. These seniors still have a bitter taste in their mouths, so expect them to come out firing and shine in big moments. In total, the Golden Eagles return seven starters from last year’s playoff team. In...

Mike Narbutt’s RBI Double Gives Bethpage 2-1 Victory Over Wantagh

Bases loaded, two-out, 3-2 count, one-run lead against the reigning New York State Class A Champs from Wantagh. Gianni Sozio was on for the save and was facing Charlie Interrante–one of last year’s playoff heroes. After just missing with a 2-2 breaking ball he induced a ground out to SS to end the game to slam the door on the 2-1 victory for Bethpage. Final: Bethpage 2, Wantagh 1 pic.twitter.com/CkOHhfloh8 — aXcess Baseball (@axcessbaseball) April 19, 2017 “I was really nervous to be honest with you,” said Sozio directly following the game. “Legs were shaking–but the only thing on my mind was the win. They’re a great team with great hitters–and of course I had to face the top of the lineup which is never easy to go through. They hav...
