He took the challenge and ran with it–firing six strong innings against a strong Bellport team in Deer Park’s 8-0 shutout victory. He was opposing Preseason All-Long Island Ryan Baumann and both pitchers danced in-and-out of trouble in the first few minutes. Belotti hit leadoff batter Anthony Jacabacci and allowed a hit to Baumann before stranding both runners in the first. He also walked two batters in the second inning but escaped unscathed. Heallowed a single to Baumann in the third, but stranded him as well. The Falcons broke through in the bottom of the four...

Bellport 2018 Season Preview

by Andres Rivas For the first time in 51 years, Bellport captured a league title, albeit co-league champs with West Islip and Deer Park. A year later, they are without some of those impact players such as Joseph Greco, Matthew Mulligan, Adam Colon and Michael Sangiamo. Fortunately, they are returning 10 of their players from last season including Southern New Hampshire-commit Ryan Baumann, LHP Anthony Jacabacci, Muhlenberg-commit Trevor Virno, Will Romano, Andrew Veit, among others. They also have added first-year players Thomas Alloca, Carson Nagle, Josh Wilson, Maxwell Kaczmarek, Samuel Hampson, Christopher Colon, Dimitri Arresto, Maximmo D’Giacomo and Brandon Bermudez. Lastly they will count on sophomore Matthew Vasquez, who got the big call after showing his ability behind the plate. B...

Who Is Trevor Virno?

by Andres Rivas For Bellport to finish with a share of the league title for the first time in 51 years, it took a complete effort. While the pitching staff was led by three experienced starters in Sacred Heart-commit Joe Greco, Southern New Hampshire-commit Ryan Baumann and talented junior LHP Anthony Jacabacci, the team was looking for a player to step up and win the starting catching position. Enter Trevor Virno. A natural shortstop, Virno was asked to go behind the plate and corral a pitching staff that was expected to be very talented. Behind the plate he had 22 assists and threw out six runners. He finished the season with a hit in eight of his last twenty at bats (.400). Additionally, he logged some innings on the mound and compiled a 2.76 ERA over 12.2 IP. Following this season he a...

Who is Ryan Baumann?

By Andres Rivas Going into the 2017 season there was a clear-cut favorite, West Islip, that looked to runaway with the League IV title once again. What we didn’t know is there was an infield in Bellport full of seniors like Adam Colon, Joseph Greco, Matthew Mulligan and Michael Sangiamo. There’s an additional name to the success that the Clippers had this past 2017 season where they were league champions, this was junior -now senior- Ryan Baumann. A 6’2 230 lb. player sounds like a football linebacker, but he was a key part in the lineup and on the mound for the first banner that the Clippers raised in 51 years. In his third year of Varsity baseball, he posted a 3-0 record, compiling 34 innings and allowing eight ER (1.65 ERA) and 37 strikeouts. At the plate, he had a slash of .485/.530/.5...
