Photo Credit: Farmingdale Athletics This is a follow up of the last post. Here is a Q & A with Ram’s ace Mike Dolce, who is coming off a season in which he compiled a 0.57 ERA in 47.2 innings. It’s clear you made the right choice coming to Farmingdale, but where there other schools you were deciding on?1. I actually was not being recruited by any schools coming out of high school. Farmingdale was the only division III school I applied to and I knew the assistant coach at the time. I figured my best bet to play college baseball was at Farmingdale and I could not be luckier that I made that decision.Did you prefer pitching or hitting coming out of High School?2. I loved both, but when I was hot there was nothing better than hitting. I was a first basemen and when I came to Far...
The hallmark of a dominant team is dominating pitching. Farmingdale State has been able to count on a steady ace for the past six years that they have won the Skyline Conference. This year is no different, as senior Mike Dolce is coming off leading the nation in ERA at 0.57. Difference between MLB and college, however, is that the ace is recycled every couple seasons until they graduate. Here is a briefing on the recent history of aces for the Rams. During their rise from mediocrity to Skyline Conference champs, the Farmingdale Rams relied on bulldog Tom Heeman. Although he also batted, Heeman was the workhouse, throwing a school record 94 innings in 2009, while compiling a 2.49 ERA while leading the Rams to their first World Series appearance in program history. He pitched himself i...

After three postponements to start the 2014 season, the St. Joseph’s Eagles opened their season on Saturday with a double header sweep of Plattsburgh State by the scores of 10-6 and 1-0. In the first game, they came back from a 5-run deficit that they were in after the top of the first. The Eagles loaded the bases with none out in the sixth with a chance to take the...
The Farmingdale Rams are off to a solid 4-1 start, in large part to their sweep of Plattsburgh State yesterday by the scores of 12-3 and 2-0. The Old Westbury Panthers have gotten off to an uncharacteristic 0-8 start. They lost both games this weekend against Southern Maine and Western New England at Baseball Heaven. After Carlos Balmacada stole home in the third inning, the score remained 2-1 entering the eighth inning but they were unable to tie it up. Tim Ingram was the tough luck loser in the game. The Panthers will face Yashiva University this weekend as they open up their Skyline Conference schedule.

They annihilated Post University 21-3 on Friday night, narrowly edged Assumption 7-6, before losing 3-1 against Wilmington University. They scored an unbelievable 17 runs in the fifth inning. Even if you subtract that inning, however, they still win the game. Rick Alessi drove in five runs, scored four and recorded three hits. Casey McKay and Joey Arena also drove in four runs. Adelphi was not the only Long Island team to suffer in Florida this weekend. The Molloy Lions, an old ECC foe, also dropped three this weekend to Wilmington, Lynn and Southern Connecticut. The loss to Wilmington was a 10-4 final. Senior Max Schonfeld suffered an uncharacteristic rough day, allowing 10 runs (three earned) on 10 hits in four innings. He was sabotaged by three errors by his defense. The Lions batted around in the ninth innings and scored all four of their runs, but it was too little, too late. They were shutout 4-0 by Lynn. Starter Alex Brosnan tossed five solid innings, allowing two earned runs, but the offense could not get anything going against Connelly, who fired the complete game shutout, scattering seven hits. They were also shutout 2-0 in the third game, despite out-h...
Hoping to get away from the dreary northeast weather, the Adelphi baseball team traveled to beautiful Boca Raton, FLA for their annual trip. Ironically, the first game was cancelled due to inclement weather. They have dropped their first three games in sunny Florida to Dominican on Friday and a pair to No. 19 ranked Wilmington on Saturday and Sunday. On Friday the Panthers were in position to win the game, thanks to an eighth inning RBI single by Robert Vani to push the score to 4-3. In the ninth, however, senior closer Matt Abramowitz allowed two runs to come across. He was relieved by Nick Batas but the damage was done, Dominican stole the victory 5-4. On Saturday, the Panthers were hanging tight down 2-1 in the third inning until Wilmington broke it open. Sophomore starter John Mulford ...
