[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Tz4mhtBrfY] It’s nice to have a stud pitcher that consistently fires fastballs by the opposition. Hauppauge has that luxury this year with LHP Nick Fanti–who continued his absurd season with a two-hit shutout of Kings Park with 14 strikeouts. He is now 6-0 on the season and will most likely get drafted in next month’s Rule IV MLB draft. “When Nick Fanti is throwing for you,” said Head Coach Josh Hutes, pausing at the end. “you just know you have a chance to win every baseball game that you play,” he added. “Nick just battled, he’s such a competitor, he gives you a chance to win every time,” he said. Fanti came out of the gate firing 88-89 MPH fastballs and struck out the first six batters h...
The Northeast-10 playoff field is set and the Adelphi Panthers have earned the No. 4 seed in the southwest division. They will take on No. 1 seed Pace on Tuesday at 2 pm. Jonathon Mulford is expected to be the starter for the Panthers and he is undefeated at 7-0. We will have more coverage tomorrow including a deeper look into the match up. Should the Panthers advance in the tournament, they will most likely face Franklin Pierce, who has been other-worldly. They are 42-2 with both losses coming by one run.
Dowling has been crowned co-regular season champions with a 15-9 record in conference play. They tied with Bridgeport. On Thursday, Dowling will be the home team against LIU Post in the first round of the playoffs, which will be held at Molloy College. On paper, it would seem the Golden Lions are the superior team, but on April 11 they faced Pioneers’ ace Jake DeCarli and were defeated 7-2. LIU Post took three of four games that series so it will certainly be an intriguing match up. Additionally, the Golden Lions are without ace Cody McPartland, who suffered a season-ending knee injury. Later in the week we will delve deeper into the game, previewing the offense, pitching and defense of both teams.
What a game! Trailing 4-3 in the 10th inning against likely Skyline Conference Pitcher of the Year, Tim Ingram, the Farmingdale Rams mounted a two-run rally and won on a walk off error to force a do-or-die championship game.It was a back-and-forth game that was ultimately decided on Old Westbury‘s third error of the game.Farmingdale took a 2-0 first inning lead on an RBI double sliced down the right field line by Nick Osburn to score Mike Marino and Tom Rydzewski.Old Westbury chipped away–they scored once in the third on an RBI single by Eddie Hernandez and tied it up in the fourth on a run-scoring single by Brandon Stein.Matteo Gaudio scored on an error in the seventh inning to give the Rams a 3-2 lead. The reign is over. After watching their Nassau County rivals, Farmingdale State own the conference for the previous seven seasons, Old Westbury has finally dethroned them.“AMAZING!!” said winning pitcher, and tournament MVP Tyler Kapela in regards to how it feels to be champs. “So happy we finally pulled it off for our coaches and seniors,” he added. It took getting to the elimination game, but the Panthers clobbered the Rams 11-4 behind Kapela’s complete game victory. He was far from perfect, he allowed four runs on 12 hits with two strikeouts but he got the big outs when he needed to and ended the drought. The Panthers were all over the Rams’ pitching–they smacked 17 hits and were up 4-0 in the top of the first after RBI singles by Christian Faust...

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBqLzvciA0I] It wasn’t the championship game, but Old Westbury certainly exercised some demons against their rivals; Farmingdale State.with a 2-1 win. Starter Tim Ingram threw a gutsy complete game, allowing one run on seven hits, one walk and eight strikeouts in front of a bevy of Major League scouting directors. He threw 125 pitches and there was never even a reliever warming up in the bullpen. “I knew coming into the game that Farmingdale wasn’t going to be an easy team to play in the first round but I looked forward to it,” said Ingram. “They were a good team all around and hit the balll but we just had a few big hits at the right times and played great defense all game. I think we have what it takes to win the champ...
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKCSGrhKQJA]Trailing 2-1 in the sixth inning and facing the prospect of losing the first game of the tournament, right fielder Anthony Bonilla smoked a two-run double to give the St. Joseph’s a 3-2 lead. It was a lead they never relinquished.No. 1 seed St. Joseph’s powered past No. 4 Maritime on the strength of a six-run sixth inning and a pair of crooked numbers in the seventh and eighth inning.Ryan Aloise started for the Golden Eagles and got off to a rocky start. After walking the first batter on a 3-2 pitch, he allowed a wind-blown two-run homer to Joe Longo which temporarily silenced the hometown crowd. He settled in after that and stifled the Maritime offense for the remainder of the game. He went on to throw all nine innings, allowi...
Photo Credit: Farmingdale State Athletics The Skyline Conference playoffs will begin today at Gregg Alfano Field on the campus of St. Joseph’s College. They earned that right by going 13-1 during Conference play. Farmingdale State is the seven-time defending champions. This dates back to 2008. I was a part of the 2010′-’11 club that beat Old Westbury in the finals both years. The two teams have met in the finals every year since then as well with the same results. They will meet in the first round today. Here’s a quick preview of the two match ups today. Photo Credit: St. Joseph’s Athletics Following the 2002 MLB season, Tom Glavine was already an established Major League pitcher with two Cy Young Awards, two second place finishes and another third place finish. He had already won 252 games and was well on his way to Cooperstown. He made headlines by leaving his team, the Atlanta Braves, whom he had won 14-straight National League East division titles with for their rival–the New York Mets. The reaction was mixed–with some supporting his decision to pursue a bigger payday while others questioned why his loyalty had wavered in the organization that nurtured him and watched him mature into the second-best left-handed pitcher of the generation. This is a decision made much easier in exchange for millions of dollars. For a 21-ye...
