by Chris Amato In a classic pitcher’s duel, Pat-Med’s Josh Rovner, pitched his tail off in a rare nine-inning complete game over William Floyd. Rovner matched up against William Floyd’s ace, Hunter Kaucky. Rover’s gem propelled his team to a 4 -1 victory at Ducks Stadium. Rover was dominant throughout the entire course of the game and proved himself as one of LI’s finest. The Adelphi commit used advanced arsenal of pitches to keep Floyds lineup off the board. Rovner’s only hiccup came in the bottom of the 7th when he walked Micheal Bradley, who would eventually come around to score on a throwing error by the left fielder to tie the game and send it to extras. After that Rovner maintained his dominance in last two innings in order to close the door on William Floyd. ...

When Patch Dooley has command of all his pitches, the offense is often left searching for answers. That was the case in today’s 9-0 shutout win over Riverhead in which the junior struck out TWENTY batters in a one-hitter. “My curveball was feeling really good today,” said the young hurler. “I was able to throw it where I wanted and put the hitters off balance,” he said. He also recorded the final out of the game on a comebacker. Was he looking to record every out via strike out as the game progressed? “I was just trying to throw strikes,” he said. “I knew towards the end they weren’t able to hit me.” With the T-Birds having the game easily in hand, Coach Tim Belz gave him the choice of walking away with 18 strikeouts. He de...
by Vinny Messana With the bases loaded and no out and St. John the Baptist clinging to a 1-0 lead over St. Anthony’s, Noah Lorenzo was in a tough spot. Having a number of big wins under his belt, his Head Coach was not worried, though. “He took the ball and said ‘let’s go’ and did the job,” said his Head Coach Casey McKay. Lorenzo struck out the next two batters and induced a foul pop out to elude any trouble and keep the lead in tact. “He just bears down when needed, he did an outstanding job,” he added. “I knew he can hit, and I felt like I had pretty good stuff,” he said in regards to facing Matt Martino with the bases loaded and 0 out. “I knew all my players behind me were making the plays so I just figured, take a chanc...
Last night was a big day for Long Islanders in the big leagues. Steven Matz and Nick Tropeano started for the New York Mets and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, respectively. While Matz actually had the worst outing of his young career, Tropeano was incredibly impressive while outdueling one of the best pitchers in baseball in Sonny Gray. The West Islip grad threw five shutout innings, striking out six against two walks and six hits. It was his first start of the season. His offense broke through with three runs in the sixth inning. Daniel Nava hit an RBI single and Mike Trout smacked a two-run home run (his first of the season). A combination of four relievers were able to finish off the final 12 outs and give Tropeano his first win of the season and his fifth career win. While he may not r...

by Vinny Messana By the time Marcus Stroman stepped foot in Patchogue-Medford HS, he was already a household name within the inner circles of baseball scouts. He had played varsity as an eighth grader and dominated players much older than him. Another player, that is 10 years younger, has the type of skillset that can make scouts drool in a similar way. He has yet to play in a varsity game, but pretty soon everyone will know who his is. Jason Diaz, a 2019 graduate of Kellenberg, is beginning the year on the JV team but cannot be ignored much longer. Not after touching 87 MPH with his fastball at 14-years-old, and not if he accomplishes his goal that he has set for himself this year. “I want to make the Team USA 15U team,” said Diaz. “There’s nothing better th...
by Vinny Messana We are well into the college baseball season. Conference play is heating up and teams are looking to get into the best possible position for the playoffs. Molloy has held the top spot in all of our rankings. This week is no different, but you will see a new team in the No. 2 spot and plenty of shake up beyond that. Molloy Record: 20-9, Stock EVEN They went 4-2 this week and improve to 20-9 on the season along with a 5-3 record in the conference. That conference record is actually only good enough for fourth place but they have time to improve on that. They currently have the ECC’s leading hitter in Angelo Navetto (.398), and the ECC’s ERA leader in Ron Bauer (0.57). Kevin Podell (.347) and Anthony Galanoudis (.357) are right behind Navetto. The pitching has got...

by Vinny Messana Adelphi traveled to New Hampshire knowing they had a tremendous obstacle in front of them in No.2 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce. by Vinny Messana They might only be hitting .237 as a team, but the NYIT Bears were led by three home runs yesterday (Joe Daru, Louis Mele, Jake Lebel), in their DH sweep of the University of Maine. They improve to 13-15 on the season and are only one win shy of matching last season’s win total. In Game One, Matt Diaz fired five shutout innings with seven strikeouts and two walks. The game was scoreless until that point when Mele smacked his fourth HR of the season to give the Bears a 3-0 lead and bring his RBI total to 21. They tacked on more in the seventh when Joe Daru hit his third HR of the season and Frank Sanacore drove in Mele with an RBI single. Maine scored three runs to make it a close game, but Lebel’s two-run blast all but put the game away in the eighth. Mele add...
By Nakeem Grant Longtime rivals in the East Coast Conference, Molloy and the University of Bridgeport faced each other for the first time this season. Molloy dominated in Game 1, 13-1, but Bridgeport’s offense led them to a win in Game 2, 8-3. Here’s a breakdown of both games. It was another scintillating start for Molloy’s right hander, Ron Bauer. He pitched seven innings, allowing only two hits and getting large number of groundouts on just 82 pitches. Bauer lowered his conference-leading ERA to 0.57 after today’s win. Molloy’s offense did the rest in Game 1. Anthony Alberghina, Michael Rahn, and Deilyn Guzman all had multi-hit games and drove in multiple runs for Molloy. Angelo Navetta hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot in left-center in the bottom of the 5th. Navetta’s b...
