Papa, who suffered a torn UCL during his senior year of high school and told nobody, wound up pitching a five-hit complete game in the Class A Long Island Championship in 2015. He was able to play through the pain during the season as a hitter and won the Diamond Award. Later in life, he tore his ACL during conditioning training on the beach. He was able to pitch through the pain as well and to this day never got the ACL repaired. Anthony Papa Transfers to St. Joseph’s

(Photo Credit: James Escher) When St. Joseph’s graduated two All-Long Island pitchers, Brandon Lubrano and Josh Outsen, following the 2017 season, it was a major question mark as to how they would replace two rock-solid veterans anchoring the rotation. It took almost until the New Year, but they seem to have answered that question with the addition of two-time All-State pitcher Anthony Papa, who transferred from Coastal Carolina (originally attended LIU Post in fall 2015). Papa was regarded as one of the best pitchers on Long Island during his stellar career at Division HS that culminated in firing a six-hit shutout against Bayport-Blue Point in the 2015 Class A Long Island Championship at NYIT. Papa will join forces with Joseph Murphy, a transfer from Suffolk CC (Sachem East 2015) i...

Nassau Defeats Suffolk 3-1 in Grand Slam Challenge

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_mr2czzfOs] There was not much offense on display at Farmingdale State College tonight in the 11th annual Nassau vs Suffolk All Star Game. The pitchers brought their ‘A’ game but it was Nassau who prevailed with a 3-1 win. The big blow came on a two-run single in the bottom of the 6th off the bat of Billy Bianco of North Shore–who was named the game’s Most Valuable Player. The inning began with Jim Mendyk getting drilled on an 87 MPH fastball by Dom Savino of Smithtown East. The following batter, Beau O’Connell, reached on an infield single back to Savino, who was unable to record the out. Anthony Papa (2-for-3), the postseason hero from Division, grounded into a 6-5 forceout for the first out of the inning. Another Div...
