by Matt Dzenawager The East Coast Jays won a tight game Wednesday evening thanks to their stellar pitching. The Jays allowed just two hits in a 2-1 victory against the Rising Star Junior Ducks. Lefty Anthony Jacabacci took the hill for the Jays and delivered. Jacabacci pitched three scoreless innings, giving up no hits, allowing only two players to reach base. Ducks number three-hitter Mike Prisco got on base after Jacabacci hit him with a pitch in the top of the first and Ryan Micheli reached base after a dropped 3rd strike in the top of the second. Leo Alvarez came in relief for the Jays in the fourth inning. Alvarez pitched three innings, gave up one run, and allowed two singles. The two singles were the only hits for the Ducks throughout the game. The one run that Alvarez conceded wa...
Robert Belotti on the 8-0 victory for Deer Park pic.twitter.com/TAD1UBZSsL Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 12, 2018 Having lost the previous three games, Robert Belotti knew his team needed him today. He took the challenge and ran with it–firing six strong innings against a strong Bellport team in Deer Park’s 8-0 shutout victory. He was opposing Preseason All-Long Island Ryan Baumann and both pitchers danced in-and-out of trouble in the first few minutes. Belotti hit leadoff batter Anthony Jacabacci and allowed a hit to Baumann before stranding both runners in the first. He also walked two batters in the second inning but escaped unscathed. Heallowed a single to Baumann in the third, but stranded him as well. The Falcons broke through in the bottom of the four...
by Andres Rivas For the first time in 51 years, Bellport captured a league title, albeit co-league champs with West Islip and Deer Park. A year later, they are without some of those impact players such as Joseph Greco, Matthew Mulligan, Adam Colon and Michael Sangiamo. Fortunately, they are returning 10 of their players from last season including Southern New Hampshire-commit Ryan Baumann, LHP Anthony Jacabacci, Muhlenberg-commit Trevor Virno, Will Romano, Andrew Veit, among others. They also have added first-year players Thomas Alloca, Carson Nagle, Josh Wilson, Maxwell Kaczmarek, Samuel Hampson, Christopher Colon, Dimitri Arresto, Maximmo D’Giacomo and Brandon Bermudez. Lastly they will count on sophomore Matthew Vasquez, who got the big call after showing his ability behind the plate. B...
We are about to enter the portion of the year when the top players entering their senior years of high school will announce their verbal commitment to colleges–if they haven’t done so already. A handful of the Class of 2018s have already committed. Players like Mark Faello, Jason Coules, Matt Hogan, Anthony D’Onofrio, Logan Doran, Bobby Vath, Logan O’Hoppe, Liam Pulsipher, Anthony Fontana and Jake Guercio are already off the table. Here’s the best players still on the board. Joe Litchhult (Hills East LHP, 1B) The big left-handed pitcher had a phenomenal season for the League III Champs. He really showed what kind of pitcher he is. He throws in the low-to-mid 80s, he has very clean and repeatable mechanics and he has command of a changeup and breaking ball as w...
Having been around a winning culture, Brandon Isolano learned a thing or two about winning from competing for a New York State Class AA championship last season. It paid off in the eighth inning today, when he lined the go-ahead RBI single to right field to score Frank Genise and give West Islip a crucial 4-3 series win over Bellport. “They just showed us how to play as a team, just play hard and practice hard,” said the senior. The victory gave Mike LaDonna his first varsity win in an exhilarating back-and-forth affair that featured plenty of drama. West Islip got off to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning off Sacred Heart-commit Joe Greco when Kyle O’Neill (Felician-commit) ripped an opposite field double and scored on Greg Tsouprakos‘ (Pace-commit) RBI sin...
