In that year, they lost to Southern New Hampshire 2-0, with future MLB Draft Pick Jonathan Mulford on the mound. They will get another opportunity at Southern New Hampshire next Friday in the NE-10 Championship series – which will be best-of-three up in Manchester, NH to face the No. 20 ranked SNHU Penmen (22-6). Adelphi came to play today against Le Moyne, cruising to a 13-2 victory in the Southwest Division Final. The Panthers sent RHP Nic Luc to th...

Le Moyne and Adelphi, two teams battling it out like heavyweight prized fighters split the first two games of the NE-10 Southwest Division Final with Adelphi (18-13) taking game 1 and the Dolphins (16-8) staving off elimination in game 2. Game 3 will be today at 2:30pm at Adelphi with the winner advancing to next week’s championship against either Franklin Pierce or Southern New Hampshire at the higher seed’s l...
Division-I St. John’s lost to UCONN, 4-3, to open up their weekend series. They led 3-1 in the 7th, but the Huskies scored on a squeeze to cut the deficit to two and then in the 8th, a two-run go-ahead double by Kyler Fedko (3-for-5), gave them the lead. Carson Bartels drew a walk in the 9th but they were unable to get him around to score. Austin Peterson earned his sixth win of the season. Joe Joe Rodriguez was tagged with the loss. The Johnnies had 10 hits but struck out 13 times and stranded 8 runners on base. They fell to 14-16 on the season and will play a DH today beginning at 12. Hofstra lost to Northeastern, 13-1, as they have now allowed 35 runs over the past two games. Jack Jett was tagged with the loss, he allowed 7 ER over 6 IP, yielding 11 hits and 3 walks. Final: Molloy 11, Adelphi 4 WP: Joe Minucci (5 IP, 2 ER, 10 K) pic.twitter.com/3JVn9RFaC3 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 16, 2021 Garden City, NY — There was one critical moment in this game where Molloy needed to bear down and keep Adelphi from gaining the momentum and cutting into their lead. It was the bottom of the sixth with the bases loaded, one out and pinch hitter Matt Alifano at the plate. The Center Moriches grad came in hitting a robust .600 on the season, but wasn’t starting the game to rest his arm. He smoked one up the middle that appeared destined for an RBI single, but SS James Messina made a terrific sliding grab and flipped to second to start an inning-ending double play. The moment was huge as it not only kept the Panthers off the board, but was...
1-2-3 first inning for Tom Ambrosino. Panthers coming to bat pic.twitter.com/R0k7sUfJXn — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 11, 2021 After such a long delay from the end of their 2020 season, it was only right they had some breaks come their way. Adelphi opened up their 2021 season on a sun-soaked day at William J. Bonomo Field and to make things even better for them – came away with a 15-0 victory over Felician. “We have been very diligent with being conscious of Covid,” said HC Dom Scala. “That tells me a lot about the mindset that the captains and veterans have instilled in the team. We had 1 practice outside and then intersquad. Had a pleasantly surprising game. I was feeling good going into today. Told them let play smash mouth baseball and they did,...
It seems like a lifetime ago at this point due to the pandemic, but Adelphi entered the 2020 season with high aspirations following an incredible 2019 season in which they peaked as the No. 5 ranked Division-II team in the nation. While this is not a national ranking, they were tabbed third in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division-II East Region Preseason Poll. Here’s the full ranking 2021 NCBWA East Region Preseason Poll 1. SNHU (Nine First-Place Votes) – 90 Points 2. Franklin Pierce – 68 Points 3. Adelphi – 67 Points 4. Le Moyne – 63 Points 5. Molloy – 47 Points 6. Wilmington (Del.) – 38 Points 7. New Haven – 32 Points 8. Stonehill – 25 Points 9. Southern Conn. St. – 22 Points 10. Felician –...
(Editor’s Note: This originally was posted on December 30, 2018) MIAMI, FLA– It was a classic height vs heart in the finals of the 15U at the Power Showcase in Marlins Park yesterday afternoon. Kellenberg sophomore, C.J. Picone, who is listed at a generous 5’5″ 145 lbs reached the finals for the first time in his Power Showcase career after two near-misses. Standing in his way was 6’0″ 175 lb Adam Parzych, who was the No. 1 seed. Picone put on a performance, smashing seven HR, including one at 389 feet into the bleachers in left-center field. You can watch the full video on our Instagram Story. “Of course I was excited–a little nervous. I was just happy to be out there. First time being in the finals. It was a great experience,” he said to me following his performance. Under many cir...
Adelphi has adjusted extremely well to the recruiting process during this pandemic. In addition to fielding a strong team in 2020, they now positioned themselves well for the future by snagging several of the top 2021 players on Long Island. They crushed the pitching recruits with John Rizzo, Jordan Falco, Phil D’Aguanno, Zach Rovner, Jacob Pedersen, Kendall Kendrick and John Carver. Now they have added to their position-player group with Kellenberg C C.J. Picone. Our followers may know him from the performance he put on at the Power Showcase in Miami back in December 2019 when he not only finished runner-up for his age group, but also raised $5,395 for charity by doing so. C.J. is the rare teenager that possesses leadership skills of a coach, a selfless attitude and the talent to be...
Josh Rovner is anchoring the rotation. The senior did not allow an earned run over 3 starts (18.2 IP) this past season and is on the radar of MLB scouts pic.twitter.com/8kI7e2nAB1 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) October 6, 2020 Dom Scala has seen plenty of baseball over the years as a minor league player, bullpen catcher for the New York Yankees, advanced scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates and now head coach of Adelphi entering his 17th season, but no amount of baseball could prepare him for what 2020 has brought us. Baseball amidst a global pandemic is unlike anything we’ve seen but the Adelphi skipper has been fortunate that the team is on track to begin the upcoming season close to full strength thanks to the protocols that were put in place by the school. “We had to su...
I’ve written about 2009 and 2010 in exhausting detail and I thought it was time to do the same for 2011. Admittedly, this is going to be much tougher to get through as I look back on those embarrassing memories. I’ve never felt as helpless on a mound as I did during my sophomore year of college and it’s the type of humiliation that is reserved especially for pitchers and comedians – those who have all eyes on you. It’s nine years later and even though I have moved on and into a new chapter in my life, it’s still cringeworthy to re-live those memories. It’s something I very rarely talk about, but it’s therapeutic to express it opposed to suppress it. So sit back and read about the most humbling and in some cases, humiliating, moments of my lif...
I want to go back to your last game on March 12. Can you explain to our audience what it was like being down in Florida and receiving the news that the season was over? It was a very wild 72 hours. We were leaving on a Thursday to head down the Florida, and that Wednesday we were hearing murmurs about schools canceling for a couple weeks, some people were canceling trips. We were just worried about getting down there. And then once we got down there, we heard the same thing. People were starting to shut down their conference play for the next few weeks. And I think mentally our team was a little unsure of what was going to happen with the future of the season, but we played that first game against Stonehill, and then during that game we caught wind that NCAA was suspended until I think Apr...
