Our player of the game was Mike DeMarest. Mike came in to pitch in the second inning and provided five innings for the Lightning in their 7-3 win over NorEaster for the LICBL Championship. pic.twitter.com/tVoyuT6Rm5 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) August 4, 2018 The Long Island Lightning took down the Long Island NorEasters by a score of 7-3 to take home the Long Island Collegiate Baseball League Championship Saturday afternoon. The Lightning had to overcome some early inning trouble to capture their victor. Starting pitcher George Rodriguez could only go a third of an inning after he allowed a hit and two walks to open the game. Troy Simpson had to come on in the first inning to get the Lightning out of the early jam and he struck out the next two batters to leave the bases loaded ...
Our Player of the game between the Long Island Thunder and Long Island Lightning is Kyle Heiss of the Lightning. Heiss went 3-3 at the plate with a HR and two RBI to help the Lightning win 7-0 and advance to the LICBL Championship. pic.twitter.com/wlPo6VMpbS — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 31, 2018 Two of the better teams in the Long Island Collegiate Baseball League squared off Tuesday evening at Adelphi with a trip to the Championship game on the line. The Long Island Lightning came in as the higher seed over the Long Island Thunder in the LICBL National division, and that order would stand true as the Lightning took care of the Thunder in a 7-0 victory. For the Thunder, their best chance to put any runs on the board came early in this one as they had their leadoff batter, N...
(Photo Credit: Chris Bergmann) The HCBL is full of elite five-tool players with hopes of elevating their baseball careers. The league is made for athletes who may not have been on a scout’s prospect list, but have a ceiling to make a name for themselves. Nobody has taken that opportunity and ran with it quite like Westhampton’s Tyler Becker. “I think he is the best overall player in the Hamptons League,” Bill Ianniciello, coach of the North Fork Ospreys and Becker’s assistant coach at Adelphi University, said. “He is an all-around player. He hits for average, hits for power and his range defensively is really impressive.” Becker hits at the top of the order and starts at shortstop for an Aviators team that has already clinched a playoff berth. He ranks third in the HCBL in RBIs and home ru...
A ninth inning PJ Contreras walk with the bases loaded helped give No. 2 ranked New Haven a 3-2 victory over No. 3 Adelphi in round one of the Northeast-10 Championship. Both teams came into the ballgame well acquainted with each other, with the season series split 2-2. The Chargers held a conference best 34-8 record, while Adelphi maintained a respectable 26-18-1 record. New Haven struck first with two runs in the bottom of the second. A Dylon Grzenda groundout would bring home Jack Zagaja. The very next batter, second baseman James Myers would deliver a squeeze bunt to third base, plating Andrew Garcia and giving the Chargers an early 2-0 lead. After that the starters began to settle in. For Adelphi, Daniel Taggart would go five solid innings, giving up just two runs and five hits. His ...
An amazing afternoon for baseball on the island as these teams took the field. Check out who kept the momentum going and who is playing out the string: Division-I: Hofstra: John Rooney loses his first game of the season as Hofstra falls to Northeastern, 5-1. In what you consider a down start for Rooney, he still managed to go seven innings, giving up just two runs and seven hits while striking out seven. It took until the sixth inning for either team to score, with Northeastern third baseman Ryan Solomon uncorking a homerun to break open the game. Hofstra managed eight hits on the afternoon, three of them coming from DH Vito Friscia, including his sixth homer. The Pride are now 10-9 in CAA play and 21-17 overall for the season. Stony Brook: Stony Brook pounded out 12 hits and nine runs in ...
Our reporter, Nick Vecchione, was on the scene Saturday for NYIT-Adelphi double header. Here are his scouting observations from a former Div-I player for our Premium Axcess Members. So it was a much anticipated wait to finally get to see the surging Panthers of Adelphi in action, and on Saturday they did not disappoint. On a gorgeous sunny day, that I thought would never come, on the beautiful Westbury campus of New York Tech, a 6 Foot sophomore out of Eastport-South Manor sets the tone out of the 2 hole for the rest of the lineup. Tyler Becker is the prototypical top of the lineup stick, possessing versatility as to what he can do in the box. Being a situational hitter seems to be a strength of his, and something he takes pride in. He throws his personal success to the side, making it se...
NYIT records the final out in game two of the double header, defeating Adelphi 6-1. pic.twitter.com/Qa9lRlutwu Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 29, 2018 NYIT held off Adelphis late attempt at a comeback, defeating the Panthers 14-13 in game one of the double header. After the Panthers grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, the Bears struck back in powerful fashion. In the top of the fourth, a wild pitch with the bases loaded helped plate NYITs first run of the game. Dominic Paolo then drove in another runner with an RBI single. Starter Ed Baram began to struggle in the fourth after a solid start. Following the Paolo single, Baram gave up an infield RBI single to Nic Lombardi. He then proceeded to walk the next two batters with the bases loaded, plating ...
A lot of quality baseball played on the island Saturday, including a historic offensive performance at the Division-I level. Take a look at who continued to make a postseason push. Division-I: Hofstra: Hofstra defeated William & Mary, 7-3, to extend their winning streak to six in a row. Rob Weissheier delivered a grand slam in the first inning to help open up a 4-0 lead. Steven Foster joined the homerun party with a shot of his own in the seventh inning, a two-run shot, to extend the Pride’s lead. Matt Weissheier was solid in his six innings, giving up one run and striking out five. The win makes Hofstra 9-8 on the year against CAA rivals. St. John’s: St Johns pounded out 31 hits on their way to defeat Xavier 34-7. The bats were scorching hot as the Red Storm knocked home at leas...
American International College and Adelphi split a double header this afternoon at William J. Bonomo Field pic.twitter.com/Y8yhXLprIM Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 21, 2018 The Adelphi Panthers split a doubleheader Saturday afternoon with fellow Northeast-10 Conference foe American International College, losing the first game 8-4, before securing a 9-6 win in the second contest. Game one was all Yellow Jackets, with AIC jumping out to a big lead thanks to a pair of 3-run bursts in the third and fourth inning. Andrew Ciacciarelli got things started for AIC with bloop single RBI to start off a well-rounded hitting game for his team. All together, seven different players had at least one RBI for the visitors. The Yellow Jackets chased Adelphis junior RHP starter Ed B...
On a gorgeous day for baseball, teams in our coverage area played a bevy of exciting double-headers, highlighted by four different walk-off victories. Division-I: Stony Brook: The Seawolves were swept in a double-header against Albany University, dropping the first game 16-4 before losing 4-3 in the second. Albany raced out to a massive lead early in the first game after scoring 8 runs in the third inning and 6 in the fourth. The Danes tee’d off against Stony Brook starter Bret Clarke and reliever Teddy Rodliff as all nine hitters cashed in with at least 1 RBI. The second game was a lot more competitive as Stony Brook jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning before Albany struck back with three runs in the second inning. Stony Brook managed to tie the game up at 3-3 in the seventh inni...
12 Teams went to work on a beautiful Friday the 13th. Take a look at those who stepped up: Division-I: Hofstra: Hofstra was defeated by Elon 2-1. John Rooney continued his amazing junior season by going seven innings, giving up zero runs and five hits. Hofstra tallied only two hits on the afternoon. A Garrett Stonehouse two-run double in the eighth proved to be the deciding factor in the loss. Hofstra drops to 14-12 on the season and 4-6 in conference play. Stony Brook: Stony Brook fell to Albany, 5-4. Albany jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning but the Sea Wolves fought back in the third, scoring three runs in the inning, one of them courtesy of a Michael Wilson single. Albany would gain the lead back in the following inning, and later padded on another run in the fifth and ...
