Transcript of IG Live With Adam Heidenfelder

(Editor’s Note: Adam is a 2014 graduate of MacArthur HS where he had a standout career. He captured the Diamond Award in 2013 and 2014 – given annually to the top pitcher in Nassau County. He was named second-team All-State and first-team All-State in 2013 and ’14, respectively. Despite getting recruited by some of the top programs in the nation, he chose to attend Hofstra University where he made his collegiate debut at UCLA. After two seasons, he transferred to SUNY Old Westbury where he performed well in 2017 and was off to a great start in 2018 – winning the team’s first two games. After suffering a torn rotator cuff, he came back for his fifth season and was named All-Region and won a playoff game for the Panthers. We had him on IG Live, and here’s ...

Q & A With Frankie Moscatiello

Who were some influential people in your life growing up? A lot of people influence me. Mom and dad always helped me with no matter what I needed to do – getting to the gym, getting to lessons, getting to practice games every day. They were always there for me. My grandfather was at every practice, every game, everything that I ever had. If my parents couldn’t bring me somewhere, he would bring me there. They were a big influence on me, and I wouldn’t be able to do what I’m doing now if it wasn’t for their support. Back when Coach [Andrew Aschettino] took over, [Rocky Point] was a lacrosse town. When you were in high school, did it become more of a baseball town at that point? Yeah, while Aschettino was the coach of Rocky Point, he had a pretty good resume. I can’t remember how many years ...

Eight-Run Sixth Inning Ignites No. 3 Old Westbury in First Round Match Up

With the game knotted at 3-3 in the sixth inning, Sean Paprocki stepped up the bases loaded and a chance to give the Old Westbury Panthers the lead. The Division-grad laced a two-run double down the right field line to give the Panthers a 5-3 lead. They continued to tack on that inning including a two-run single later in the inning by Mike Manetta and a two-run HR by Shaun Kaminski to break it wide open. Old Westbury starting pitcher Adam Heidenfelder was working very hard, he needed 111 pitches to get through six innings but he was able to make the big pitches when he needed to. He finished with eight strikeouts and eight hits allowed with two walks. Heidenfelder was Old Westbury’s best pitcher throughout the season, he compiled an ERA of 1.25 and a K:BB ratio of 33:6. Adam Heidenfe...

Adam Heidenfelder On His Resurgent Season at Old Westbury

It’s been quite a journey for Adam Heidenfelder. In May 2014, he was coming off winning his second Diamond Award at MacArthur HS. His fastball, sitting 90-91 MPH, was drawing herds of scouts behind the plate at all his games and was being discussed as a potential draft pick. Ultimately, the only local high school player that got drafted was Jesse Berardi, the Carl Yastrzemski Award winner out of Commack. Heidenfelder, a 6’5″ RHP, began his college career at Hofstra University and made his first start against UCLA in Hofstra’s second game of the season. The start did not go as planned, and it was the start of two frustrating seasons for him. He used that as an opportunity to start fresh, however, recognizing that there was an opening atop the SUNY Old Westbury rotati...

Fall Ball Series: SUNY Old Westbury

Senior Adam Heidenfelder will be anchoring the rotation pic.twitter.com/UnEyFlV8bf — Axcess Baseball (@axcessbaseball) September 22, 2017 Today I was down at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex, home of the SUNY Old Westbury Panthers, to get a good look at the team they will be going to battle with during the 2018 season. They are coming off a 20-16 campaign, but had their season cut short by No. 5 Mount St. Mary’s in a shocking upset. They graduated 12 players, notably two-time All-Long Island SS Tommy Ziegen, CF Kevin Lao, C Carlos Balmaceda, 3b Michael Cardino in the lineup and RHPs Daniel Aguilo and Trey Pizzutello from the rotation. With that being the case, the performance and leadership of the returning players that they do have is critical. Second baseman Jesse Russo ha...

Old Westbury Prepared to Return to Top of Skyline Conference

In the two years that we’ve done our Awards Banquet, Old Westbury has quietly led the Long Island programs with eight players represented on the All-Long Island team. Coach Rod Stephan has done a commendable job building up the program, and has now averaged 25.1 wins per year since he took over in 2011. He has also had three pitchers drafted during his tenure–the only three players the Skyline Conference has had drafted during that time. With that being the case, it is certainly time to take them seriously. Despite a disappointing exit in the 2016 season–an extra-innings loss to rival Farmingdale State–the Panthers look ready to compete for the Skyline Conference crown yet again. While watching their practice the other day, the team showed off their top arms during ...

10 Skyline Conference Players That Could Be X-Factors

The Skyline Conference has improved vastly over the past few seasons. There are now four teams that could legitimately win it this year. St. Joseph’s, Old Westbury and Farmingdale have each one it in the past three seasons. Below are 10 players that could have a large say in who ultimately wins it this season. Nick Attardi-OF, Farmingdale State The reigning Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year is a force at the top of the order. He hit .420 with a .514 OBP and struck out only seven times. They have transformed into more of a small-ball team over the past couple years. When I was playing there, it was a lineup filled with power but with the speedsters they have, they try to “get-em-on, get-em-over, get-em-in”. With the vast improvements of the rest of the Skyline Conferen...

April 15 Recap

Photo Credit: Vinny Messana We provided coverage of three games yesterday, but here is the results from the rest of the college programs on the island. Division-I: Hofstra shutout Manhattan 7-0, behind Adam Seibert and four relievers. Seibert started and went five innings, Adam Heidenfelder threw the sixth inning. Kevin Weissheier and his brother, Matt, both pitched one inning and Chris Weiss closed it out. Together, they allowed four hits and three walks while striking out 10. The offense got going early on Brad Witkowski’s RBI triple to drive in Steven Foster. In the third inning, Dalton Rouleau hit a sac fly to score Witkowski to make it 2-0. David Leiderman stayed red-hot, and increased it to 4-0 with a two-run single. In the seventh inning, Eric Ferguson scored on a wild pitch f...

David Leiderman Wins it For Hofstra in 13th Inning

Photo Credit: Vinny Messana In another low-scoring game for the Pride, David Leiderman provided the go-ahead two RBI single in the top of the 13th to give his team a 3-1 lead that would stand up.Freshman starter Adam Heidenfelder (MacArthur ’14) threw six shutout innings against Villanova, allowing two hits, five walks while striking out two.He did not factor in the decision due to the Pride not being able to muster anything on offense. Opposing starter Ryan Doty was very difficult and held the Pride off the board until the eighth inning. In the top of the eighth, Brad Witkowski (3-for-6, 1 RBI) tripled down the right field line to score Steven Foster and give the Pride a 1-0 lead.Converted starter Nick Kozlowski set down the side 1-2-3 in the eighth but ran into trouble in the ninth...

March 16 Recap

Photo Credit: Vinny Messana Today was a very busy day in Long Island baseball. Six teams were in action. Counting Dowling double header, the teams were 5-2. Division-I: Stony Brook: They lost 13-2 to Binghamton. We covered the game, click here to read the recap. Hofstra: The Pride beat UMass-Lowell 6-5. They came up with two runs in the ninth inning to stave off defeat in a bizarre sequence of events. The first two batters were hit by pitches, the third walked, Eric Ferguson got hit with a pitch to score the tying run and then Jake Fallon was up when the pitcher threw a wild pitch to end the game. Brian MacDonald was the winning pitcher despite walking three batters, throwing two wild pitches and recording one out. Baseball is quite a game. Freshman Adam Heidenfelder started and threw five...
