Cam Leary rips an RBI double down the right field line to score Ryan Micheli and HDMH takes a 1-0 lead in the third pic.twitter.com/QmafFZ0Z4Y — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 7, 2020 It appeared to be a slog of an ending to a double header split on a dreary day in Holtsville, NY but after three consecutive walks and one bolt of lightning off the bat of Boston College-commit Cameron Leary, the game was all tied up at 6-6 – which ultimately was the final score after the game reached the time limit. HDMH was trailing 6-2 in the top of the sixth in a game that they hadn’t mustered much offense, but their patience paid off against Lou Puccio, who walked Matt Alifano to start the inning as well as Nick Harvey and Rob Copozzi to set the stage for the dynamic outfielder. The three-day NY State Games took place from June 25-27 at Binghamton University, Union-Endicott HS, Maine-Endwell HS and Vestal HS. The event featured 340 of the top players from New York playing in front of roughly 90 college coaches. Long Island was well-represented and featured some well-recognized players if you’ve been following us for the 2018 season. Some of the players that performed well come as no surprise, but a couple players really put themselves on the map with eye-opening performances. I spent a lot of time interacting with the Division-I coaches. Several of them asked by opinion on players that I have watched this season, and I was able to kind of pick their brains as well in terms of their opinions on our local players. Below is my takeaways and which players performed th...
Walk-off single by Tyler Acker and Sachem East wins 6-5 in 10 innings ! pic.twitter.com/Jd3BEX8H2x — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 1, 2019 In a game featuring several high-profile players, it was sophomore Ty Acker who was the difference. The back-and-forth affair that featured five lead changes went 10 innings ended on a bloop single by Acker to score catcher Ryan Micheli and send the team into a frenzy. The story line entering the game was the matchup between sophomore stud Rafe Schlesinger and Molloy-commit A.J. Verga, who was named to our Preseason All-Long Island list. Schlesinger was understandably nervous in the first couple innings pitching in front of a big crowd with three Division-I coaches holding radar guns behind the plate. Floyd capitalized right away on an RBI ...
Floyd sophomore A.J. Verga fired a one-hit shutout in his varsity debut today against Longwood by the score of 6-0. Head Coach Paul Longo stated that he was “very proud” of his LHP for stepping up and performing that well in his first start of the season. He struck out five Longwood batters. Niko Rodriguez smacked a two-out two-run double in the fifth and that provided all the offense he would need. His pitching coach, Neal Heaton, stated that he has vastly improved since his time working with him and he threw very well this winter. Floyd is coming off an 8-win season, but they now have a potentially dynamic 1-2 punch in the rotation with Verga and senior RHP Robert Brust, who was the catcher today. They will play again on Wednesday as Floyd looks to win the series.
