Unfortunately for Hills West, the 2024 season was a down year for the program, falling just one game short of their goal of making the playoffs. This came a year after they won 14 games including two in the playoffs. Last year’s Colts team featured seven seniors, three of which are playing baseball at the college level, including Arthur Green, who is pitching at Molloy...

Head coach Ryan Argenziano expects nine players from that roster to return, creating a much more experienced core at the forefront. Of the nine returners, the Falcons are returning six seniors that Argenziano expects to lead the way. “We’ll have some younger guys but it’s really going to be those six seniors that we rely on,” Arg...

They have not only been one of the most consistent teams in Suffolk County but have also sent three pitchers (Steve Matz, Anthony Kay and Ben Brown) to the big leagues. Unfortunately for them, League II was a powerhouse in 2024 and it was not their best season. “It was a wake up call.” Petrucci said. “For me and my players. We didn’t do very well, but we had five freshmen and sophomores starting. So we gained a lot of experience.” They finished with an overall re...

Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Vin Messana St. Anthony’s is your 2024 Catholic League Champion! It is their first title since 2000 🏆 pic.twitter.com/uW9Vmfbksp — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 27, 2024 When Paul Parsolano took over as head coach at St. Anthony’s, they were in the midst of a championship drought that dated back to 2000. After a few years of knocking on the door, including an appearance in the finals in 2019 against Chaminade, they were finally able to take that next step and break through in 2024. They did so in dramatic fashion, winning a thrilling, 4-3, in 9 innings against Holy Trinity – who were the reigning NYS Catholic League Champs. The Friars were sluggish getting out of the gate, sta...

East Meadow Looking to Make Noise in First Year Under O’Connor

Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by George Caratzas The 2025 season will look a bit different for the East Meadow Jets. Former-head coach Vinny Mascia retired following the season and Bill O’Connor has taken the reins for the Jets as they look to build upon a 10-9 season a year ago. In the playoffs, East Meadow was bounced in the first round by Farmingdale, ending its season.  “They were a pretty competitive team last year,” O’Connor said in an interview with Axcess Baseball. “That was a pretty young team, so we have a lot of guys returning. Two of our top-three pitchers are back so we should be pretty good.” The two pitchers that O’Connor references are Alec Coehlo and Spencer Kemler. Coehlo will serve as the Jets’ top option, as the...

Billy Riedel Excited for First Year as Head Coach of John Glenn

Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Max Edelman While he might be the new head coach of the John Glenn Knights, Billy Riedel is far from a stranger to his team. Having served the last six seasons as an assistant coach, Riedel takes over as the man in charge, and as he grows in his new role, his young team will grow with him. “Last year was a learning experience.” Riedel said. “I think we were one of, if not the youngest team on Long Island. We had only one upperclassman start in the entire lineup. So it was a valuable learning experience for all of our younger guys for what to expect at the varsity level. Not only getting into games, but also knowing what it takes to be successful at that level.” Much like last year, the core of the K...

Commack Aims for an Unprecedented 5-Peat

Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Vin Messana March 12, 2020 was five years ago today. It was the day most people remember when looking back on the craziness of the pandemic – citing things like the NCAA cancelling the men’s basketball tournament and professional sports being halted. There was no high school baseball season that year, but the Town of Brookhaven did host a Wood Bat tournament which featured almost all of the schools in the county. The winner of that was Commack, led by the late Bryan Bonin. But for Head Coach, Tom Tuttle, the losses in the Long Island Championships sting. “There’s no question it stings,” said Tuttle, who has been at the helm since 2007. “In both Long Island Championships, we lost in the last inning. Out of 14 innings, we had two bad innings. Twice we didn’t make a defensive play. The unfortunate thing is, we are built to win a two of three. The...

However, head coach Keith Barrett, who will be entering his 13th season in charge of the Wildcats in 2025, will look to take yet another step forward. “We were a final four team last year.” Barrett said. “We won three playoff games, our first one we be...

Lindenhurst Leaning on Pitching to Compete in a Loaded League II

Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Max Edelman   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Axcess Baseball (@axcess_baseball) In a team that was anchored by its pitching in 2024, the combination of one of the toughest leagues on Long Island, as well as struggles at the plate spelled trouble for the Lindenhurst Bulldogs. However, head coach Robert Moore, who is entering his 11th season in charge of the Bulldogs, complimented his team for their fight despite the challenges. “The lack of hitting put us in a situation basically every game where we had to pitch to perfection.” Moore said. “We had some good pitching performances, especially by Matt Curto, who’s at Adelphi now. In the big picture, when you’re in a league as t...
