The Cougars finished with a 10-8 league record and 2-2 in the playoffs. Head Coach Pete Cammarata reflected, “Last season for us at Centereach was special. It ended with a deep run in the playoffs, and got us back to the winning ways of the past – overcoming the pressure of making the playoffs after not making it in a few years.” This was the first time since 2010 that Centereach High School qualified for the playoffs. They finished the regular season with an 11-4 league record while having a plethora of studs on the roster. That seemed to be the case in 2022 for the North Shore Vikings as they finished 7-11, missing the playoffs for the first time in over two decades. They saw their season come to an end against Chaminade in the last two seasons in the CHSAA Finals. They won back-to-back titles in 2016-17. They had a great season overall finishing at 17-9. They shined on the mound with a team ERA of just under 2.00. In total, they graduated 16 players. Ryan Glupe is one of the players that had a big impact on the team who graduated as he led the team with back-to-back gems in the playoffs against St. Anthony’s and Chaminade which helped the team fight off elimination and make it to the championship. The 11-Time Nassau County Champions found themselves in the Nassau County semifinals in 2022 but were unable to finish the job against Clarke High School, losing in a three game series. Led by a Barrage of Flame Throwers, St. Dominic is Hungry for First Title Since 2009
by Nick Cipolla Last year, St. Dominic’s High School showed everyone in the CHSAA they were much improved and they shouldn’t be taken lightly. First year head coach Joe Fusco led St. Dom’s to 14 wins between league, non-league, and playoff games in 2022. They were a team that got hot down the stretch, winning 8 of their last 10, eliminating teams like St. John the Baptist, Holy Trinity, and St. Mary’s from the playoffs. The only losses they experienced in the 10 game stretch were losses in walk-off fashion, showing that they were in every game they played towards the end of the year. Coach Fusco is a big reason for the instant turnaround in 2022. He played for the Cougars, he was the JV coach for the past two seasons and his father is well-respected Athletic Director, Ralph Dalton. Casey McKay was at the helm before him, helping lead the Cougars to the CHSAA Championship in 2018 but decided to step down and is now an assistant coach on staff.
