Opening up against a powerhouse like Massapequa was not an easy task for coach Mike Postilio and his young Oceanside squad. Massapequa are the five-time reigning Class AA Nassau County Champs and were looking to establish their dominance early in the county. Oceanside had different plans for the evening. Clarke struck early and kept their offense consistent throughout the same, complimenting a tremendous pitching performance by junior Nick Berasti. Barrett was clutch in these situations and got out of the jams to hold the game scoreless. Ryan Barlow delivered a strong performance on the mound for Sachem North and surrendered only one hit through five innings of play. They opened the season with an overpowering 21-2 win over Long Beach. Calhoun made it clear that they are prepared to defend their title and look to repeat. PJ Kakalos took the mound for Calhoun while Dylan Cantwell was on the hill for Long Beach. Fairfield-commit Matt Kalfas was an early spark plug for Calhoun’s offense, singling to left and stealing second in the first.
