Babylon Pulls Off Dramatic 9th Inning Comeback to Stun Seaford and Capture Class B LIC

A stunning comeback by Babylon as they overcame a 5-2 deficit in the Class B Long Island Championship with the winning run coming in on a walk-off walk Babylon 6, Seaford 5 pic.twitter.com/dN02nDZ6RG — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 1, 2023 In a season of magic for Babylon, it makes sense that something so improbable would happen in the Class B Championship. Two teams with just 1 loss on the season squared off at St. Joseph’s University, and there was a number of twists & turns in this one. Ultimately, the Babylon Panthers trailed 5-2 entering the bottom of the 9th, and were also down to their last strike trailing 5-3 with Daniel Madsen, whose been at the center of all their magic this season. Madsen lined an 0-2 pitch to center field against Adelphi-commit Billy Kind,...

Bedlam! Erik Paulsen Jr. Crushes Walk-Off Grand Slam to Propel Massapequa in Long Island Championship

ERIK PAULSEN JR WALK-OFF GRAND SLAM TO WIN IT FOR MASSAPEQUA!! ARE YOU KIDDING?! pic.twitter.com/XxVwkXrBMY — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 31, 2023 Bases loaded. Two outs. Bottom of the seventh inning in Game 3 of the Nassau County Class AA Finals. Enter Erik Paulsen Jr. It was a story book finish for the Stony Brook-bound Paulsen who launched a dramatic, incredible walk-off grand slam as No. 1 Massapequa stunned No. 2 Plainview JFK to win 8-6 and capture their record sixth consecutive Nassau Class AA Title. While it’s never smart to count out the Chiefs, their backs were firmly against the wall after 3 innings – when they trailed 6-1. Massapequa had jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when, who else, Erik Paulsen ripped a one-out double to the right...

Long Island Sharks Firing on All Cylinders As They Cruise Past the Merrick Mayhem to Advance to 2-0 in Pool Play

by John Sullivan Mid 2: Sharks plate another 5 in the second with a big thanks to this rbi triple by Frank Hernandez. They now lead 12-0 pic.twitter.com/5AYl77T6Ko — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 27, 2023 The 10u matchup between Sharks Baseball Academy was a battle of two high-powered offenses coming off huge wins in their tournament openers. Earlier in the day, the Sharks took down the LI Storm 11-1 and the Mayhem defeated the LI Storm, 19-4. Both teams would be looking to continue their success and get to 2-0 in pool play.  The Sharks offense set the tone of the game in the top of the first inning. The first 7 batters reached base for the Sharks, which led to a ridiculous 7 run inning on 7 hits. Gavin Kennedy, Jaxon Reinan, and Frank Hernandez all had RBI knocks for the sharks...

Timely Hitting and Pounding the Zone Gets the Job Done for Team Beast

by John Sullivan Postgame interview with John Drew of team beast. He went 2-3 on the day with two doubles, as well a big run scored on a wild pitch. pic.twitter.com/sTHGKhipF7 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 27, 2023 The 15u matchup for East Coast Youth Baseball’s Memorial Day Clash”between B1000 Seminoles-Cohen and Beast 2026 American was one that pitted two hard-throwing right handers against each other. Conor Dekenipp got the ball for Team Beast and Donovan Brazicki took the mound for the B1000 Seminoles.  Despite having a hard fastball and a wicked 12-6 curveball, The Seminoles were able to scratch off a run against Dekenipp in the top of the first. The run was scored after Pat Cappetti and Ryan Jazylo both worked walks and Thomas Duffy came through with a line-drive RBI sin...

Ken Kortright State Farm Game of the Week: Plainview JFK Wins a 6-5 Thriller, Advance to Nassau AA Finals

Andrew Lenski had 2 hits including a 3-R shot in the first inning as Plainview JFK advances to the Nassau Class AA Finals against Massapequa @GCsports pic.twitter.com/42Y4IQOBPX — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 27, 2023 Last year, Farmingdale defeated Plainview JFK in the Nassau AA Semifinals and that was something that was not lost on the returning players. The Hawks, who graduated one of their best players in program history last season in Dylan Banner, were able to rely behind last year’s postseason exit and exercise those playoff demons against their crosstown rivals. The teams split the first two games of the series with the road teams winning each game. Plainview made sure to take some of the anxiety out of the home crowd as they drew back-to-back walks to start the g...

GAME RECAP: Sean Costello Fires 4-Hit Shutout in Game 1 of Nassau Class B County Finals

Bottom 4: Stephen Ierides bloops an RBI single and it’s 2-0 Seaford pic.twitter.com/0b2PKApwtx — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 25, 2023 Although it’s important to have a roster with depth, the most important thing is having star players that perform like stars in big games. Seaford, who entered the Nassau Class B playoffs, as the No. 1 seed thanks to a 1-loss regular season, have continued to dominate their competition and now are on the brink of a County Championship for the first time in program history. They had been a Class A school up until last year which certainly made the path more difficult. Led by two of the top pitchers in Nassau County this year and a relentless top of the order, the Vikings cruised to a 6-0 victory over No. 5 Wheatley, who were the only team t...

GAME RECAP: Farmingdale Overcomes Late 2-0 Deficit to Steal Game 1 of Nassau AA Semis

Farmingdale takes Game 1 of the Nassau Class AA Semifinals Farmingdale 4, Plainview JFK 2 Michael Craig went 3-for-4 and also records the save with a 1-2-3 seventh inning Game 2 will be on Wednesday at Farmingdale pic.twitter.com/FwJA8wy8Px — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 23, 2023 Trailing 2-0 against a pitcher that has allowed virtually nothing all season, things weren’t looking great for the Farmingdale Dalers. But baseball is a funny game that doesn’t make sense sometimes. After notching his 12th strikeout of the game, Mike D’Ambrosio hit Farmingdale’s No. 9 hitter, Behar, to bring the top of the order. JoJo Burriesci ripped a single to put runners in scoring position and No. 2 hitter, Michael Craig, followed with an RBI double into the right center fi...

GAME RECAP: Charles West Fans 12, Derek Savicki Hits Sac Fly to Send Ward Melville to Conference Finals

Ward Melville is moving on! I tried my best to stay as relaxed as possible, knowing how big of a spot I was in a I knew I had to get the job done for my whole team,” said Savicki. He was able to elevate a pitch to deep center field that was tracke...

GAME RECAP: John Carroll, James D’Alessandro Combine to Fire Playoff No-Hitter for Chaminade

A playoff no-hitter ! Chaminade 1, St. Dominic 0 WP: John Carroll (6.2 IP, 0 H, 2 BB, 0 R) S: James D’Alessandro (.1 IP) Chaminade will face Holy Trinity tomorrow at 4pm in the winner’s bracket pic.twitter.com/93SKLSAU4r — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 21, 2023 Not all no-hitters are created equal. At the high school level, some are only five innings in run-rule games. Some include a bevy of walks, hit batters and errors that don’t resemble anything like a no-hitter. This one certainly didn’t feature any of that. It’s not often there’s a playoff no-hitter – especially in the Catholic League – which features the best collection of talent on Long Island. Chaminade, the 3-time reigning champs that have somehow been overlooked in 2023, reminded ev...

Ken Kortright State Farm Game of the Week: Calhoun’s Bats Explode for 14 Runs, Advance to Nassau A Final Four

Final: Calhoun 14, Wantagh 0 (5 innings) WP: Aaron Small Charlie Imhof: 3-for-4, HR Brian Sanchez and Matt Kalfas: 2 hits, 2 RBIs each Calhoun improves to 22-1 pic.twitter.com/DwuAG8xSUp — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 19, 2023 Relentless. That’s the only way to describe Calhoun’s offensive attack. The reigning Class A Long Island Champs have bludgeoned their way to a 22-1 overall record to start the season. They faced one of the best programs on LI today, Wantagh, but they treated them as they have treated every team they’ve faced this season and that’s by putting up runs early and often. Calhoun sent LHP Aaron Small to the mound against Wantagh. He was close to flawless as he pitched the five inning complete game, allowing just a walk in the first innin...

GAME RECAP: Jack Costello Fires Gem, Pat-Med Pulls Off Upset at No. 1 Connetquot

🚨 Upset Alert 🚨 Final: Pat-Med 3, Connetquot 2 WP: Jack Costello (CG, 1 ER, 6 H, 3 BB, 2 Ks) Rob Melo: RBI single Jack Costello: sac fly Bryan Frascogna: RBI single Pat-Med will play the winner of Ward Melville-Longwood on Saturday pic.twitter.com/T6NLwIJdH6 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 17, 2023 Baseball is a unique game filled with quirks and statistical oddities. Here’s one for you: three times since 2003, Connetquot was the No.1 seed in the Suffolk AA postseason and were defeated by Pat-Med at home. There’s no rhyme or reason to that, each team was comprised of entirely different players but each time the Raiders were able to do something exceptionally difficult – beat one of the best teams on Long Island on their own turf. Pat-Med certainly hasn’t ...

GAME RECAP: Sean Britt Slugs South Side To A 10-3 Playoff Win Over Roslyn

by Eddie Lennon B/1- South Side gets on the board first with a 3-run homer to right-center from Sean Britt. 3-0 Cyclones. pic.twitter.com/h3vRCWTFok — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 15, 2023 As the #3 seed in Nassau County Class A, South Side came into today’s game looking to make a statement. Between their ace, Justin Peralta, being dominant on the bump and Sean Britt’s explosive bat leading the Cyclones’ offense, South Side was in control through all seven innings.  Queen College-commit Justin Peralta had great control of all his pitches on the mound today. His fastball was overpowering and his breaking balls were out pitches when he needed them. Peralta tossed five innings for South Side, striking out six batters and allowing three runs. Peralta was not perfect today, but he w...
