A chaotic day of college baseball on Saturday is the only way to say it. Big wins against regional opponents, wild games in the wild west, pitcher’s duel in Garden City and huge offensive performances in Flushing. Let’s just right into it. They fell behind 3-0 in the fourth inning but got one back on an RBI ground out by Brad Hipsley to score Shane Paradine. CCSU took a 5-1 lead entering the bottom of the ninth. by Joseph Langan The season is now in full swing, with the Division-I programs in their fourth week of action, all the Division-IIs have began and the Division-IIIs will all kick off their 2020 campaigns. Division I:   Stony Brook took on Central Connecticut in a back and forth battle which saw the Seawolves come out on top. Thanks to a late sixth inning rally, Stony Brook defeated the Blue Devils 3-2 in game one of the series.   The Seawolves started off the game aggressively, taking a quick 1-0  lead in the first inning with a timely sacrifice fly from catcher John Tuccillo. by Joseph Langan On Saturday, the local teams produced some victories and definitely some entertaining games, gaining some momentum going into Sunday’s series finales. Division I Stony Brook took on Southeastern Louisiana University in the second game of their three game series. After a tough 11-0 shutout loss, the Seawolves woke up their bats and came out on top, 11-6, in an extra inning thrill ride.  Stony Brook opened up the scoring with a Shane Paradine single, with an error by the right fielder Christian Garcia, Cristian Montes was able to race home. by Joseph Langan We enter Week 3 of the college baseball season. Friday was limited to Division-I, but Saturday will be interesting as some more of the Division-II teams get underway. Division I:   St. John’s was defeated by Charlotte to open up the three-game series, losing by a score of 5-1. The Red Storm didn’t produce much of an offensive spark on the day and fall to 3-4 on the season.   The 49ers put up three runs early on The Red Storm, scoring on a wild pitch and a pair of RBI’s by Tate Pennington and Carson Johnson. It was a mixed bag for the locals on Saturday but the peaks were rather exciting. We had a 27-run onslaught, an incredible comeback and another impressive win on the West Coast for St. John’s. Here’s how it went down: Check out Orlin & Cohen by clicking here. Division-I St. John’s defeated Cal for the second straight game, this time by the score of 3-1. With the victory, they improve to 3-2 on the season. They trailed 1-0 early on but immediately erased that on a double steal with Jake Lazzaro scoring on the back end. The game was tied 1-1 entering the sixth inning, but Mitchell Henshaw gave them the lead with an RBI double. He wound up scoring on an RBI double by Sean McGeehan. (By Joseph Langan and Vin Messana) As we enter the second weekend of college baseball for Division-I schools, some of Long Island’s Division-II & III teams kicked off their season today. Six games were scheduled on Friday as Stony Brook, Fordham and Old Westbury, all suffered tough losses on the day while St. John’s, Molloy and NY Tech came out on top. Division I: Stony Brook, taking on a tough opponent in Clemson, gave up an early two-spot that they would never fight back from. by Joseph Langan As opening weekend continues for the five local teams, only two have found themselves getting their first win of the season. While Stony Brook and Hofstra was able to get in the win column, three others enter Sunday looking to salvage a victory before they head back north. Here’s how it went down: (Make sure to check out Orlin & Cohen by clicking here) Division-I: Hofstra and Purdue battled for the lead early in game one of today’s double header. Trailing 5-4 going into the top of the 6th, Hofstra’s offense exploded, scoring 7 runs in the top of the frame giving them the 11-5 lead. The Pride would only expand upon that lead and go on to win by a score of 13-6. Hofstra’s top of the lineup would provide a huge amount of the offensive production, accounting for 7 RB...

Well, there’s always today’s games. Despite the excitement of college baseball’s Opening Day, it was a less-than-stellar performance from the local teams. All five teams in action suffered setbacks. The good news is that today is another day for the team’s to bounce back. Here’s a quick rundown of how it went down. Check out Orlin & Cohen by clicking here. Division-I: Hofstra entered the bottom of the eighth inning with a 6-4 lead over Purdue. The flood gates, unfortunately, would open in that inning for the Boilermakers, who put up a five-spot. The big knock came by Kyle LaPlante – who crushed a bases-clearing double to give them a 9-6 lead, which wound up being the final.
