Who Are The Top Remaining Uncommitted 2019s Available?

Randall Alejo, RHP, Pat-Med One theme that I have found common with Pat-Med players is that they are always wired a certain way. They are never fazed by the pressure spots, even when they are not necessary “supposed to be there”. Prime example: May 19, 2017, Pat-Med is ranked No. 14 and playing against No. 3 Hills East. It’s not just the ranking, but the fact that they were playing on the road and facing Vanderbilt-commit and Axcess Baseball‘s No. 1 ranked prospect on Long Island, Matt Hogan. Alejo outpitched the future Carl Yastrzemski Award winner and shocked the baseball community with a huge upset. Now a senior and named to our Pre-Season All-Long Island list with his 88 MPH fastball, Alejo has a chance to be an All-County pitcher. For a contemporary comparison,...

Insider Notes: HS Seniors That Are Making a Strong Case to Get Drafted

Every year around this time we think we have a good idea who will get drafted in June. The reality is that there’s no way to predict the future; players performances are wildly unpredictable and that’s not even factoring things out of their control. For example, I thought a player like Angelo Navetta would have gotten drafted had he performed exceptionally well in 2018. All he did was slug .616 with 49 RBI, showing that his 2016 season was no fluke and he is every bit as talented offensively as he is defensively. Still, he wasn’t drafted. Don’t tell me his size is a deterrent, because there were position players under 6’0″ drafted across the nation. Then there’s Matt Hogan, who I thought just needed to prove he was healthy to be considered a pro pl...

2018 Nassau County Class A Preseason Power Rankings

Although the weather may not reflect the fact that high school baseball is right around the corner, believe it or not it’s here. The major storyline is the two-time reigning Long Island Champion Wantagh Warriors looking to protect their throne while everyone is coming for them. Class A has an incredible amount of parity, as there are double the amount of programs as Class AA. It should make for some high drama once again this season. With that being said, let’s take a look at the preseason top five teams for Class A. 5. Clarke With the realignment of the new conferences in Class A, Conference A4 sticks out as the conference with the least amount of experience regarding deep playoff runs. A team that’s had a history of winning conference and county championships led...

Who Are the Top Uncommitted 2018s Remaining?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PM6KEX5XWiY&t=1s With the Blue Chip Prospect 18U tournament taking place this weekend at Baseball Heaven, now is a great time to go over who the top available players in the 2018 class. Surprisingly, there are several high-end players still on the table. A number of them have scholarship offers currently on the table, but are waiting to make their decision. Here’s our top 25, organized by position in alphabetical order Catchers: Anthony Carleo (North Shore) Dylan Judd (Oceanside) Anthony Lamar (Freeport) Josh Lester (Copiague) Andrew Primm (Massapequa) Charles Rainone (Deer Park) Nick Ungar (Connetquot) Pitchers: Justin Aviles, Brentwood Jacob Cheshire (Sayville) Drake Eggleston (Ward Melville) Anthony Jacabacci (Bellport) Joe Litchhult (Hills East...

Who Are the Top Players on Long Island RIGHT NOW?

I was on a mission this year to find out who are the best high school baseball players on Long Island. So I went to a bunch of games, I watched all the top teams and even the mediocre ones in hopes of finding the hidden gems. That wasn’t enough for me, because I wanted to make sure I didn’t let anyone slip through the cracks so I asked some people their opinions. All told, I spoke with 20 people and asked them who is the ONE player you would choose to build your franchise? The results might surprise you a bit. I got 15 different answers, I’ve witnessed all of them play first-hand. Most of them, I’ve seen more than once. So, I will provide my insight on the individuals. Again, this is based on the survey that I conducted and the ranking system is based on the play th...

Nassau County Class A Power Rankings (Final Edition + Playoff Predictions)

The final week of the season has ended in Class A, which means chaos is underway. The “first four” of the playoffs feature the 4 lowest seeded teams battling for 2 spots to get into the round of 16. These games will take place on Tuesday afternoon. The round of 16 is scheduled to kick off on Saturday afternoon. After yet again a crazy week of baseball, here are the top 5 teams at the end of the season AND my predictions for the postseason. 5. MacArthur (12-3) (Last week: Unranked) MacArthur was hoping that Garden City would drop one game in the series against Manhasset in order for the Generals to capture a county championship. Unfortunately for them, Garden City swept Manhasset which means that MacArthur has the 6 seed heading into the playoffs and will face their cross town r...

Nassau County Class AA Power Rankings (5th Edition)

Everything went as expected this past week in Class AA, causing only slight alterations in the rankings–basically the top teams stayed hot . With a week of little to no surprises at all, let’s take a look to see if there was any mix up in this week’s power rankings. 5. Calhoun (10-5) (Last week: 4) Non-league games often are a chance for coaches to get inexperienced players playing time and have some fun. However, when you lose a non-league game against a team that’s 2-13 on the season, there’s no excuse for losing. Calhoun lost to Bellmore JFK 5-3 during their bye week, which could result in negative momentum riding into their last week of the season. Sophmore Jake Edwards will look to continue to dominate at the plate this week against Valley Stream Central....

Suffolk County Class AA Power Rankings

With just a handful of games remaining in the regular season, the playoff picture is pretty clear. League II remains pretty murky as Sachem North, Bay Shore, Northport and Connetquot all remain alive in the postseason hunt. The rest of the leagues are more clear. With that being said, here’s this week’s top big-school teams. 10. Bay Shore/Northport (10-5, 10-6) I’m doing it again, because not only do they have similar records, but they both beat Commack. I was willing to give the edge to whoever avoided a sweep, but they both did. Like I said last week, I give a slight edge to Northport because I really think the top of their order is underrated and they backed that up. Frankie Stola had a big 2-for-3 game against Commack with three RBI and two runs scored. Sean Klein rec...

Neal Heaton: Who Are the Top 3 Arms in the Class of 2017?

I’ve had the pleasure of working with a lot of great pitchers over the years. The group of arms in the 2017 class gives them all a run for their money. Here are my top three based on what I’ve seen. Brian Morrell (Shoreham-Wading River, Notre Dame-commit) The thing I like about Brian Morrell is he pounds the strike zone. Electric arm and his curveball is flat-out nasty–it’s a knuckle-curve. Change up is way above average and of course, his velocity is 88-92 AVG. He’s a competitor, and he’s also a great hitter.     2. Ben Brown (Ward Melville, Siena-commit) Tremendous work ethic. Fastball anywhere from 88-91 MPH with a great overhand curveball and great change up. He pounds the strike zone too and he’s a very tough competitor. Being 6̵...

Power Rankings Volume 4

Weather caused many more cancellations this week (what else is new?). But there was still plenty of games that will factor into this week’s Power Rankings. In this edition, we are going to do things slightly different considering the difficulty in differentiating teams with less than 10 games under their belt. I will separate teams into five tiers based on their current record, momentum and likelihood of turning their seasons around. Tier 1- The Elite St. Johns (Record: 14-2, Stock UP) Another great week for the Johnnies, winning both of their games. They are hitting .323 as a team with a 2.62 ERA. John Valente is batting .486 and is headed towards an All-American season. Tier 2- Trending Up 2. Adelphi (Record: 8-6, Stock UP) Great offensive week down in Florida despite the 5-0 loss ...

Nassau County Class AA Preview

With the newly developed conferences this year, there will be two conferences containing 7 teams each, and the top 6 in each conference will make the playoffs. The top 2 teams in each conference will receive a first round bye. The newly developed conferences will change how these teams approach the season as they all have a chance at a playoff run. Here’s a look at what to expect for Class AA in 2017. Conference AA1: Conference Champs – Massapequa (16-2) 2nd Place – Oceanside (13-5) 3rd Place – Freeport (10-8) 4th Place – Hicksville (9-9) 5th Place – Port Washington (8-10) 6th Place – Farmingdale (7-11) Although Conference AA1 lost a ton of talent with huge names such as Kyle Martin, Chris Keenan and Pat Clyne graduating, there’s still a good...
