Syosset Confident They Can Compete In An Extremely Tough Conference

After a tough 5-4 loss to Farmingdale in the first round of the playoffs last year, Syosset is heading into 2019 with optimism. For many reasons, they believe they can compete this year. Not only do they posses a strong core of seniors who experienced last year’s playoff defeat, but they bring in a new coaching staff. After spending eight years as an assistant, Tom Morritt will take over as head coach. He brings in Dan Barcavage from the JV team as an assistant. “We’ve had a very strong off season that’s helped us get ready for what is now turning into our pre season,” said Coach Morritt. “The tone this senior class sets is gonna leave a huge impact on the program for years to come,” he added. If Syosset wishes to make another postseason run, they ...

Wantagh Enters 2019 With A Target On Their Back After Winning Three Straight Long Island Championships

The first word that comes to mind when discussing Wantagh is dynasty. As everyone should know, Wantagh has won three consecutive Class A Long Island Championships. They not only demoralized every one of their opponent’s dreams in the making, but now go down in Long Island history as one of the most dominant teams to ever do it. Aside from the 2016 State Championship and the three Long Island Championships, Wantagh portrays an incomparable resume among that three year period. The core of these championship teams were made up of star ballplayers who went on to play baseball at the next level. Winning the most prestigious award in Nassau County is just one of the awards they took home in back-to-back seasons. In 2017, Jimmy Joyce (Hofstra) won the Diamond Award for best hitter, batting ...

Power Rankings: Week 1

It was the opening week for Division-I baseball teams. While it is always reason for excitement, the results are often underwhelming for Long Island teams considering the disadvantage of playing against southern teams that have been outside since January 1. It’s important to keep that in mind, because more often than not, a rough start to the season is not indicative of anything else. For Week 1 of our Power Rankings, we will limit it to the Division-I programs because the only Division-II school to play this weekend was LIU Post who played the 7-time Division-II National Champions. Without further ado, here she goes… Stony Brook (Record: 2-1, Trending UP) All things considered, it was about as good of an Opening Weekend for Stony Brook as they could’ve hoped for. To go d...

Saturday’s College Baseball Recap (2/16) Presented by The Schwarz Institute

Similar to Friday’s results, baseball on Long Island is not off to a hot start. Out of the five colleges that played down south yesterday, we saw two teams come out on top as winners and three teams lose in blowout fashion. Here is how everything shaped out on Saturday. Following a rough 9-1 loss in their season opener, Hofstra showed some life in the late innings as they defeated Incarnate Word 3-2 in game one of their double header on Saturday, but fell the next game 9-1. In game one, Hofstra was trailing 1-0 heading into the top of the 6th. This would all change on a three-run home run by Rob Weissheier. After the home run, Andrew Mundy solidified the game as he recorded the three-inning save, allowing only one earned run and three hits. Brad Camara was the winning pitcher in this...

Long Island’s Top Pitchers Throw at Suffolk CC

Today was a scout’s dream, as every one of the top pitchers on Long Island were in one spot, throwing to a catcher. During a season, seeing all of these arms would probably take a full season but thanks to the loaded roster of the HDMH Titans, this was all possible today. The Mets, Phillies, Yankees, Tigers and Phillies were in attendance, Here’s a breakdown of them in the order they threw: David Falco, RHP, Center Moriches (Maryland-commit) Maryland-commit David Falco (Center Moriches 2019). Will transition to starting rotation after being closer for State Championship winning team last year. Seaford Seeking Vengence After Early Elimination In 2018

Coming off back-to-back conference championships in 2016 and 2017, Seaford took a bit of a step back last year. They finished 12-9 and dropped both playoff games by a score of 4-2. After graduating 12 seniors and ending the season with two consecutive losses, it would seem Seaford is expecting to fill a significant amount of holes if they wish to be conference championship contenders once again. For many reasons, the Vikings are hanging their head high and staying optimistic for the 2019 season. “We are very excited about the large amount of juniors that played a lot as sophomores in 2018,” stated Head Coach Mike Milano. Offensively, the Vikings will be lead by senior SS Tim Saulpaugh. In 2018, Tim batted .415 with 18 stolen bases and only struck out four times. As a result, he...

College Opening Day (2/15) Recap Presented by The Schwarz Institute

Ah the sweet, sweet, smell of baseball. After a long eight months away from live action, college baseball is back on Long Island. Friday night, five colleges opened up their seasons against teams on the other side of the country. The only winning team from last night’s games was Stony Brook, who defeated FIU by a score of 13-7. The offensive explosion was in part from seven different players who chipped in with RBI. 3B Michael Russell propelled the Stony Brook offense, going 3-5 at the plate with an RBI. Four different players in the Stony Brook lineup had a four-hit performance, including Dylan Resk, Michael Wilson, Brandon Alamo and John Tuccillo. Greg Marino picked up the win for Stony Brook, pitching five innings allowing only three hits, two earned runs and struck out five. Adam...

Farmingdale On The Verge Of A Potential County Championship Appearance

Over the past few years, Class AA has been controlled by dominant teams, followed by a few “on the bubble” teams. Constantly classified as an on the bubble team, Farmingdale is ready to change their fortune this season. “This year we need to get over that hill so we can look back, not up at our AA rivals which we have been battling with for the past number of years,” stated Head Coach Frank Tassielli. Following a 10-8 season where they fell to Oceanside in the semifinals, the Dalers know they are on the brink of a potential county championship appearance. Perhaps this is the year they finally get over that bump. The strength of this team is their pitching. Not only do they return several significant arms, but they can be considered one of best pitching staffs in Cla...

Big Board!Top College Players

This is a list of the best draft-eligible college players we’ve seen on the island. The limitations are that a) we have not seen every player and b) we have not seen every player multiple times. Nevertheless, this is based on our best resources and unbiased opinions. February 14, 2019 Vito Friscia, Junior, Hofstra Hofstra makes it 5-1 on a solo HR by Vito Friscia, his 6th of the year. pic.twitter.com/M2tHkFxsvI — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 4, 2018 Friscia has powers in droves and will be the biggest reason that scouts come out to Hofstra this season after sending three players to professional baseball last season. He has appeared more as a DH/1B as opposed to a catcher, which makes it more challenging for him, but Hofstra says he will be a catcher for the bulk of the time. Al...

Hicksville Looks To Improve on Rough Season

Last year was certainly a transitional year for the Hicksville Comets who struggled in a loaded Nassau AA-1 to a record of 1-16. Diving deeper, they did lose three one-run games, and if the ball had bounced a little differently the season’s win-loss record would look much different. This season, they will move down to AA-2 with Plainview, Baldwin, East Meadow and Long Beach. Leading the charge is senior Connor O’Keefe. Last season, he batted .359. Coach Frank Ciaranitaro noted that he has good power and speed combination and an above-average base runner. Junior and returning All-League C Anthony Pandolfi batted .350 and is known to be good defensively with a “high baseball IQ”, according to coach. Senior Nick Pathmanathan is a three-year starter at third base and co...

Eastport-South Manor Looks to Repeat 2018 Success with Young Roster

The Eastport-South Manor High School baseball team finished a successful 2018 season with a 20-7 record, winning the League 5 championship with a 15-5 league record but losing in the County Championship to West Islip. “Last year was a great year,” Eastport-South Manor head coach Jim McGowin said. “Lots of great guys.” The team lost eight seniors after last year, though, which brings up lots of questions about this year’s roster. “The big question mark for us is going to be our pitching,” McGowin said. “We have some big shoes to fill.” “[We had] arguably the best pitching staff in Suffolk Country,” he said. We are about to get underway here for Game 2 of the Suffolk Class AA Finals with Ryan Foran on the hill. Fordham-commit Jake Guercio steps in first pic.twitter.com/Bmb6Ylyhy4 — Axcess Ba...
