Dan Livoti talks about what he did to keep the Syosset lineup in check and the offensive aggressiveness that gave him run support. pic.twitter.com/jeWl9cFg2D — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 27, 2019 On Wednesday afternoon, North Shore defeated Syosset 6-1 in non-league play to earn their second win of the young season. Dan Livoti got the start for North Shore and was phenomenal. His first start of the season included no earned runs over five innings pitched. After being named All-Conference in 2018, it’s safe to say he picked up where he left off. “I was working my off speed pitches throwing them for strikes and starting off with strikes,” said Livoti. “We came out here aggressive in the first inning and we did our best to win,” he added. After be...
Miller Place ended 2018 with a sour-taste in their mouth and have high hopes for this season. They opened up 2019 on a great note with a 4-0 shutout over Westhampton Beach. Gavin McAlonie fired four shutout innings for the win. “He can do it all,” said Head Coach Ricky Caputo. “He’s an outstanding pitcher as you saw today–At the plate, when he gets two strikes I almost feel like he’s getting better. He’s going to play third base, he’ll play a little short when Kevin Bowrosen gets on the mound. If it wasn’t for him and his talent and his versatility, we’d be a whole different ballclub,” he added. They got on the board in the third inning on an RBI ground out by McAlonie to score Jordan Syperski. They added two more on RBI sin...
Viandy Abreu takes us through his at-bat which gave his team the lead and the season outlook for a talented Freeport team. pic.twitter.com/zBYfRHQLiI — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 26, 2019 In a tightly contested non-league match up Freeport topped Bellmore JFK, 5-3. On the mound, both starting pitchers were phenomenal. Bellmore JFK sent junior Ryan Schechner to the mound for their first game of the season. Schechner pitched three innings, allowing no earned runs. The starting pitcher for Freeport, Ronny Vicente worked out of a few jams to keep his team in the game. He went four innings, allowing just one earned run. Matt Nachamie got things started for Bellmore JFK, giving them a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning on a sacrifice fly. This would be the only offense the Cougars produc...
Port Jefferson Head Coach Jesse Rosen talks about his team’s 14-5 victory over Comsewogue pic.twitter.com/6ft0V48oMb — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 26, 2019 Port Jeff is a program with a long and storied history of baseball success. Under longtime Head Coach Al Desiderio, who was the father of the program, they won 10 league titles in his 35 seasons and amassed 443 wins. “Desi”, as he’s commonly referred to, was in the house today to watch Port Jeff pull of a 14-5 upset over Comsewogue. That made this victory impressive is that Port Jeff is a member of League 8 and came away victorious against a League 4 program; no small task. “I think our season started off the way I envisioned the season starting off,” said 10th year Head Coach Jesse Ros...
Spring has sprung which means the varsity baseball season is officially underway. After Wantagh won their third consecutive County Championship in 2018, things are expected to be a little different in Class A this season. While there will be new teams emerging as contenders, there’s also going to be plenty of teams that come into the season with a chip on their shoulder, ready to prove they are worthy of winning. With that being said, here are the preseason power rankings for Class A. 10. Valley Stream North Competing in an extremely tough conference, Valley Stream North enters the season as “sleepers” in Conference A4. With a lineup consisting of Albany-commit Joe Gisonda and James Saracino, they can give opposing teams nightmares. They also return Chrs Manzi and Colin M...
The beautiful thing about traveling around to indoor facilities in the winter is that it gives me a chance to see how kids have evolved since last season. Since the Long Island Championship last June, players had additional opportunities to improve their game over the summer and increase their strength over the winter. I feel like with all that being said, I have a pretty good feeling as to who the top players and teams are across Long Island. Today, we will focus on Suffolk Class AA, where many of the top players in our region reside. From a scouting perspective, I’m looking forward to see how those select few players answer the bell and attempt to be this year’s version of Franklin Parra and Logan O’Hoppe on draft day. From a journalistic standpoint, I’m excited t...
With the weather warming up this week, we should hopefully have a week unimpeded for the first time of the year. This is great news as teams can finally get into a rhythm and play their best baseball. This week we were able to cover Molloy, NYIT, Adelphi, LIU, Farmingdale, USMMA and St. Joseph’s. Here’s my best attempt that ranking the local schools. Division-I St. John’s (Record: 10-9, Trending UP) 2. Stony Brook (11-7, Trending UP) 3. Fordham (Record: 14-10, Trending EVEN) Analysis: It was a terrific week for all of these squads. Stony Brook is riding an eight-game win streak, St. John’s streak is at seven and Fordham has won four of five, having their streak snapped by St. Bonaventure, 1-0. The top half of the lineup has really been getting the job done for the S...

They were successful winning game one 7-5, and game two 5-3, keeping them perfect in conference play. Game one saw the Bears lineup produce timely hit after timely hit. It started with Chris Campbell, who got the scoring started with an RBI single in the second. The scoring would continue, and they would get extend the lead to 4-0 thanks to a double play scored a run and Ben McNeill’s RB single and an unearned run. E.J. Cumbo continued his torrid start to the season, going 3-4 with a run scored. Kieran Dowd ...
With conference play beginning on Long Island, we were treated to an outstanding day of baseball. For the first time all year, Long Island teams came out on top in every single game played on Saturday afternoon. The tough competition everyone has played since February is seeming to pay off. We covered the unbelievable Farmingdale State-USMAA double header, which you can read about by clicking here. For everything else, here’s what you need to know. Division-I: Another day, another win for the Seawolves. On Saturday afternoon, Stony Brook saved their best work for the late innings as they defeated Sacred Heart, 4-1. With the win, they extend their winning streak to seven. After Sacred Heart jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, the score would remain the same until the bottom of the 8th. A...

Walk-Off suicide squeeze by Tyler Schrimpf and Farmingdale wins it 2-1 in 9 innings ! pic.twitter.com/WRVLyyDZuc — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 23, 2019 The games were slated to be nine and seven innings, but that was not nearly enough to determine today’s winners. These are the two premier teams in the Skyline Conference at the moment, and the matchup more than lived up to the billing with a 13-inning and a 9-inning game, with the teams splitting the DH. Here’s how it went down: Game 1: This game appeared like the Rams would be in control all game. They scored two runs just three batters into the game, with RBI hits by Vinny Rice and Steven Burke, but that was all they would get for the game. USMMA starter John Kelly Jr. went into lockdown mode the rest of the ga...
The weather did not do us any favors on Friday. Despite an air temperature of about 45 degrees, the games were played in a sustained 20-25 MPH winds which made the real temperature feel like 35 degrees. Some games were cancelled. Regardless, there was still plenty of excitement in the games that did occur. We covered Suffolk-Nassau, which you can read about here. Here’s the rest of the action: Division-I: Stony Brook outlasted Sacred Heart, 12-9, in heavy sustained winds that certainly made it difficult on the pitchers. The victory extended their win streak to six, as they now have a record of 9-7. They led 5-0 after two innings thanks to an RBI single by Mike Wilson, a passed ball that he scored on, a bases loaded walk to Nick Grande, a fielder’s choice by Chris Hamilton and a...
