Hauppauge Overcomes 4-0 Deficit, Game Ends in 4-4 Tie

Huge strikeout to end the top of the 10th inning–Hauppauge looks to get it done pic.twitter.com/xj5QJMi3n5 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 2, 2019 Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Hauppauge hadn’t generated much of anything on offense. After a fortuitous defensive miscue got them on the board,  they mounted a rally in the fifth inning. A sac fly by Mike Knopf got them to within two runs, a wild pitch scored Ryan Levenberg and an RBI single by Alex Knopf tied it up. Credit to both team’s pitching staffs to bear down from that point forward. Each pitcher appeared to wiggle in-and-out of trouble, but a big moment in the game came in the top of the sixth when Sayville No. 9 hitter Alex Millwater lined a single to left field and Ryan Levenberg, one of the ...

Josh Loeschorn Fires 4-Hit Shutout to Keep LIU Post Rolling

Here’s Josh Loeschorn talking about his dominant complete game performance. pic.twitter.com/HORccuTwie — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 1, 2019 LIU Post has been on fire offensively lately. Coming into this game they were on a seven-game win streak, where they scored an almost unthinkable 121 runs. While the offense has certainly carried the team as of late, starting pitcher, Josh Loeschorn, wanted to remind everyone that the pitching isn’t lacking either, as he went to 4-0 on the season after today’s complete game performance. The win gave LIU Post a four-game sweep over St. Thomas Aquinas. Loeschorn was dominant all game. He carried a no-hit bid into the 5th inning. That same inning, he allowed his only run, but only after a balk brought the runner in from third. That was the...

Ty Acker Delivers Walk-Off Hit to Propel Sachem East to 6-5 Win in 10 Innings

Walk-off single by Tyler Acker and Sachem East wins 6-5 in 10 innings ! pic.twitter.com/Jd3BEX8H2x — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 1, 2019 In a game featuring several high-profile players, it was sophomore Ty Acker who was the difference. The back-and-forth affair that featured five lead changes went 10 innings ended on a bloop single by Acker to score catcher Ryan Micheli and send the team into a frenzy. The story line entering the game was the matchup between sophomore stud Rafe Schlesinger and Molloy-commit A.J. Verga, who was named to our Preseason All-Long Island list. Schlesinger was understandably nervous in the first couple innings pitching in front of a big crowd with three Division-I coaches holding radar guns behind the plate. Floyd capitalized right away on an RBI ...

Nassau County Class AA Preseason Power Rankings

With just a week until the official opening day, all teams will have a chance to compete in non-league action within the next few days. This year will be an interesting year in Class AA, as there are only 12 teams. Massapequa comes into the season looking to defend their back-to-back county championships, but will have their hands full in a tough conference AA1. With that being said, here are the top eight teams in Class AA. 8. Freeport After a 5-2 victory over Bellmore JFK in non-league action to begin their season, Freeport seems to be on the right track as far as competing. Not only can everyone in their lineup work the count, but they can hit to all sides of the field. On the mound, Ronny Vicente will anchor the rotation. Viandy Abreu, Roberto Lizardo and Nelson Lozano will lead their ...

Power Rankings: Week 7

Admittedly, this is the toughest of the seven weeks to rank due to the recent performances–and that’s a good thing. At the Division-I & II levels, there is a lot of parity. This weekend I watched NYIT-Queens on Saturday and Stony Brook on Sunday morning, which I will factor into these rankings. Here’s my best guess: Division-I Stony Brook (Record: 14-8, Trending UP) 2. St. John’s (Record: 12-10, Trending UP) 3. Fordham (Record: 16-12, Trending EVEN) 4. Hofstra (Record: 3-18, Trending Down) Analysis: After watching Stony Brook yesterday perform well and run their stretch to 11 wins in 12 games, that’s enough to put them at the top of this list. The fact that Bret Clarke is back to his dominant self from his freshman year is huge for them. He gives them a ca...

Saturday’s College Baseball Recap (3/30) Presented by The Schwarz Institute

Division-I: Stony Brook walked out of Saturday as winners in both games against Maine in their double header. With the wins, they now improve to 13-8 on the year. In game one, the Seawolves triumphed to an 8-3 victory. At the plate, four different players recorded multi-hit games. Michael Wilson went 3-3 with 2 RBI. He’s now batting a ridiculous .466 on the season. Greg Marino was the winning pitcher in this one, as he went seven innings allowing four hits and two earned runs. Game two provided much of the similar magic from game one as they beat Maine 5-3. Although they didn’t have another offensive explosion, it was a gritty victory. Nick Grande was the star at the plate for the Seawolves, as he went 3-3 with 2 RBI. Brian Herrmann went the distance, allowing three earned runs...

Matt DeAngelis’ Walk-Off Single Propels NYIT to DH Sweep over Queens

NYIT Head Coach Frank Catalanotto on their 13-5 victory over Queens College pic.twitter.com/HT3ERUNOED — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 30, 2019 NYIT has found all sorts of ways to win ballgames this year. Frank Catalanotto‘s squad continued their winning ways with a DH sweep over ECC rival Queens College on Saturday afternoon by the scores of 13-5 and 5-4. Here’s how it went down: Game 1 D.J. Masuck got the start for the Bears, he ran into immediate trouble when he allowed a leadoff home run to freshman John Strauss, but that lead would not last long for the Knights. The Bears got on the board in the second inning on an RBI single by Nick Tedesco to score Matt Malone. The real action occurred in the third inning, when the bats exploded for seven runs, beginning wit...

Kyle Martin and Anthony Zimmerman combined for two shutout innings of relief with Zimmerman recorded his second save of the season. After four scoreless innings, Fordham broke through on a fifth inning sac fly by C.J. Vazquez to score Nick Labella. They added an insurance run in the ninth on an error. Reis Henderson wins it for Hills East with a walk-off single to score Nick Gavilla ! pic.twitter.com/yyZVfPV9MN — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 29, 2019 When you go 10 years between playing each other, it’s hard to call it a rivalry. When you are neighboring schools, though, this is anything but just another game. There’s bragging rights on the line. Hills East sent the home faithful home happy with a dramatic 4-3 victory over Hills West on a walk-off RBI single by Reis Henderson. Where Are They Now: Rick Vichroski, 1983 Recipient of the Yaz Award

It’s been 36 years since Northport has won a Suffolk County Championship. They came awfully close in 2016, when they were defeated in three games by West Islip, but they came away just short. In 1983, when John DeMartini was still the JV coach, they not only won Suffolk County, but defeated Bethpage in the Long Island Championship. The winning pitcher in that game? Rick Vichroski. Rick improved his record to 12-0 that season, his third year on varsity. The Tigers leaned on his arm heavily that season, as he accounted for 46 percent of his team’s wins on the way to an appearance in the New York State semifinals. Vichroski, 53, is now the owner/operator of Human Healthy Vending and lives in Rhode Island, but his memories of his playing days are still cherished. And they did not e...

Seaford Cruises To A 10-1 Victory Over Carle Place

FINAL: Seaford 10 Carle Place 1 pic.twitter.com/JIPUlU1VJT — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 28, 2019 On Thursday afternoon, Seaford crushed Carle Place 10-1 in a non-league contest. From the beginning of this game, Seaford’s offense was clicking on all cylinders. Tim Saulpaugh drove in the game’s first run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the 1st. Saulpaugh finished 2-3 on the day with 2 RBI. “We were seeing the ball well and we kept hitting the ball hard staying calm and relaxed getting a lot of guys on base,” said Saulpaugh. “In the field we played very nice didn’t make many errors and we looked very good today in our season opener,” he added. Seaford tacked onto their lead with two more in the third inning, courtesy of a Nick Barreri...
