On Memorial Day afternoon, they triumphed to a 5-0 victory over MacArthur in the do-or-die game three. The result was the Farmingdale Greendogs defeating the Batting 1.000 Seminoles out of Freeport, 8-7. It was the second straight game of the day for Batting 1.000, but they came out looking fresh to start. Their offense scored a quick two runs in the top of the first starting with a walk from Danny Defonte, who also stole second and third base. by James Ryder Playoff Baseball is all of the usual unpredictability with higher tensions and stakes added on top. Few games make this concept clearer than Sunday’s playoff matchup between the Sayville Golden Flashes and the Hauppauge Eagles. A thrilling pitching duel that saw a complete game win and a few other crazy moments led to a Sayville victory, 4-2. Hofstra-commit Ryan Levenberg took the mound for the Eagles and opened the game with two strikeouts. In the bottom of the first inning, Eric Foster allowed the only two runs of the day for the Eagles. The Bandits pushed across the only run that they would need in the top of the first inning. Todd Segarra was hit by a pitch, and as a result of some sloppy defense by the Ducks, came around to score the first run of the game. In the bottom of the inning, the Ducks did threaten to score, working back to back walks with two outs. NYIT Advances to Division-II College World Series

The NYIT Bears defeated reigning East Region Champion Southern New Hampshire, 6-3, to advance to the program’s first Division-II College World Series next week in Cary, NY. On May 10, the Bears were shutout, 4-0, by the University of Bridgeport to get eliminated from the ECC Tournament. Now, 15 days later, those Bears are hoisting the trophy that proves they are one of the top-8 teams in the nation. This game did not feature the high drama of Friday night, as E.J. Cumbo got the Bears’ offense going with a three-run shot to open up a 3-0 lead. It was Cumbo’s seventh HR of the season and his 44th RBI of the season. It’s tough to have a more competitive, intense baseball game between two Suffolk County powerhouses than the one we just saw at Ward Melville to send the Patriots into the Class AA semifinals next week. Trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth, right fielder Matt Franco crushed a game-winning three-run home run to left center field to give Ward Melville an 8-6 lead, one that they would not relinquish. The game was the definition of back-and-forth as the Patriots jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a solo home run by Ethan Farino in the first inning. If last week was an upset, then there’s no more superlatives to describe what NYIT pulled off last night against No.17 nationally ranked Southern New Hampshire. The Bears held off a late rally to win, 9-8, and put themselves one win away from advancing to the Division-II College World Series for the first time in program history.
