After nearly blowing an eight-run lead, Farmingdale hung on to defeat Maritime 10-8 in game one of the double header on senior day. On a day in which nine seniors were recognized for their Farmingdale careers, it quickly turned into a slugfest for the Rams. Maritime starter Dylan Clausen entered the day 4-0 on the season, but lasted only 1.1 innings after Farmingdale tagged him for eight hits and six runs. Ernie Geraci got the first RBI of the game and ultimately got the momentum going for the Rams. A throwing error by Clausen, a passed ball and an RBI single by Nicholas Soriano made it 3-0 in the first inning for Farmingdale. The Rams went back to work in the second, with Geraci knocking his second single through the right side for another RBI. A walk to Anthony Gigante put them up 5-0, f...
Grand slam for Mineola’s Mike Conway to help propel the Mustangs to an 11-0 start to the season pic.twitter.com/1rk9FI3mq1 Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 20, 2018 Mineola remains undefeated with a 7-2 victory over Locust Valley with senior Mike Conway hitting a grand slam in the sixth to put the game out of reach. “We came through in the clutch when we had to,” said Mineola Head Coach Helms Bohringer. “Every time we play Locust Valley it’s a close game.” Junior Justin Bestler tossed a complete game for Mineola. “Another rock solid performance…he keeps us in the game. He’s a competitor and he doesn’t like to lose,” said Coach Bohringer. Locust Valley struck first blood on a RBI...
Our @DigmiNation Player of the Game is winning pitcher Kyle Johnson. He allowed only two hits and struck out 5 batters #TipYourCap pic.twitter.com/tPdfnquykC Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 20, 2018 In 2005, Kyle Johnson was five-years-old. That was the last time the Newfield Wolverines competed in a playoff game. Today, the Stony Brook-commit pitched like he has been waiting 13 years to make the playoffs. The past two years were fresh in their memory all winter as they came just one win away from a postseason berth in ’16 and two wins last season. In 2018, however, they won the necessary 10 games within the first 11 games. “It feels awesome,” he said following the game. “We are going to enjoy this today–it’s been 13 years–but tom...
Our @DigmiNation Player of the Game is freshman Sean Lane for his clutch two-run single in the fourth inning to give the Bayhawks a 2-1 lead. #TipYourCap #LiveDreamBe pic.twitter.com/w43DnRhd1e Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 18, 2018 The transition back-and-forth between grass and turf infields can be difficult for amateur players. For that reason, St. John the Baptist scheduled multiple scrimmages to prepare for their battle against rival St. Dominic. The tactic, unfortunately, did not prevent defensive miscues that was the difference in their 4-3 loss. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Tony Figliuolo led off the inning with a single and advanced on a single by Brandon Bruno. The ensuing batter hit a ground ball to third that was bobbled and thrown in the dirt to first...
Final: Oceanside 13, Massapequa 0 WP: Brendan McFall (CG, 2 hits, 6 K) Dylan Judd: 3-R HR McFall is our @DigmiNation player of the Game #TipYourCap #LiveDreamBe pic.twitter.com/VJBRrugd5r Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 17, 2018 If today was a test for Oceanside, they got an A+. The undefeated Sailors entered play with a perfect 7-0 record, but were facing their biggest challenge yet–facing the reigning Class AA Long Island Champion Massapequa Chiefs. The Sailors dominated in all facets of the game; cruising to a 13-0 victory with the exclamation mark coming in the top of the seventh inning on a long three-run HR by UMASS-Amherst commit Dylan Judd. The game was long over by that point, as the Sailors offense scored early-and-often against Chiefs’ RHP Christian...
David Otero on what worked for him this afternoon pic.twitter.com/xyhZQmipo9 Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 15, 2018 Farmingdale State slid into second place in the Skyline conference on Sunday afternoon, completely dominating St Josephs (L.I) in 16 shutout innings at home. The Rams took the first game, 6-0, and won a 7-inning second game, 2-0, on a windy day that head coach Keith Osik said was not baseball weather obviously. Senior LHP David Otero Jr. took the mound for Farmingdale in game one and looked sharp, throwing 7.1 strong innings, striking out 10 and allowing only three hits. My changeup was my go-to pitch, Otero said. I was just trying to get ahead and get my breaking ball and changeup over. With the victory, Otero mov...
In a makeup game, the West Islip Lions defeat the North Babylon Bulldogs 15-6. Fordham-commit Jake Guercio went 3-for-3 with a three-run home run, three RBI and two stolen bases. West Islip improves to 6-2 while North Babylon falls to 5-3. Jordan Piht gets the win for West Islip while Evan Christopher earns the loss for North Babylon. “I don’t think the score was really indicative of the game,” says West Islip head coach Shawn Rush. “We had some big hits in some big spots…Any time you get out of North Babylon with a victory is a good day,” he added. West Islip got the scoring started early, with Jimmy Loeffler driving in Guercio on a RBI double. Senior Anthony Ippolito would drive in Loeffler on a double in the next at-bat. “[It was a] hard fought ...
Matt Hogan on his no-hitter against Smithtown West pic.twitter.com/FTpv502c4o Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 13, 2018 by Frank Farnacci Vanderbilt-commit Matt Hogan threw a no-hitter today, leading his Half Hollow Hills East Thunderbirds to a 5-0 win over Smithtown West Bulls. I was feeling pretty good, but honestly it was just the defense behind me today. Everyone was making plays. There were no errors in the field, Hogan said. His humility was admirable considering he struck out eleven with a powerful fast ball and a biting curve ball. Ive seen Matt pitch now for three, four years at the varsity level, said Hills East Manager Tim Belz. Today he took a little bit off, pounded the zone, got ahe...
Drake Eggleston fires a 90-MPH fastball past James Myler and Ward Melville holds on, 3-1, to end Longwood’s 7-game winning streak pic.twitter.com/ydecyfY71N Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 13, 2018 This one had playoff intensity from the first pitch. It had an ejection before most fans even made their way to a seat and it had excitement right up until the last pitch, when flame-throwing closer Drake Eggleston (UPENN-commit) fired a 90-MPH heater past James Myler with two runners on to slam the door shut on a crucial 3-1 victory over the upstart Longwood Lions. Everyone in attendance was on edge with the potential go-ahead run at the plate. Everyone except for Eggleston. “I knew what I had to do and I just focused on that,” said Eggleston. “I was pr...
A strong pitching performance combined with timely defensive plays helped push East Rockaway past Wheatley, 7-5. The bats were in full swing for the Rocks on Thursday afternoon, pounding out 10 hits and seven runs. In the first inning they started the game off with a walk, an infield single, a double steal and an RBI groundout to go up 1-0. They continued that momentum in the second, putting up three runs in the inning, two of them off the bat of Dylan Hensaw. Those runs helped extend the lead to 4-0. Wheatley starter Francis Cappi struggled to find the zone all day, giving up six runs, four walks and one balk in just 3.1 innings. The Wildcats battled back in the bottom of the third, plating two runs, one off the bat of Albany-commit Will Feil. Feil had a day at the plate, going 3-for-3 wi...
Robert Belotti on the 8-0 victory for Deer Park pic.twitter.com/TAD1UBZSsL Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 12, 2018 Having lost the previous three games, Robert Belotti knew his team needed him today. He took the challenge and ran with it–firing six strong innings against a strong Bellport team in Deer Park’s 8-0 shutout victory. He was opposing Preseason All-Long Island Ryan Baumann and both pitchers danced in-and-out of trouble in the first few minutes. Belotti hit leadoff batter Anthony Jacabacci and allowed a hit to Baumann before stranding both runners in the first. He also walked two batters in the second inning but escaped unscathed. Heallowed a single to Baumann in the third, but stranded him as well. The Falcons broke through in the bottom of the four...
Dylan Reilly on his game-saving throw to the plate in Holy Trinity’s 5-4 victory pic.twitter.com/C7OoE5bNyS Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 11, 2018 Dylan Reilly was prepared for the moment. Holy Trinity practices “do-or-die” plays at the plate every day at practice, said the senior outfielder, so when he fielded a base hit with the potential tying-run he was not concerned. “It’s a simple play, ground ball to the outfield and you come up throwing and get the guy out at home–that’s it,” he added. The inning, though, was anything but simple for Holy Trinity. Starter Will McCarthy, a sophomore, left with a 5-1 lead, after breezing through six innings allowing just five hits and two walks against an undefeated Chaminade squad th...
