Fast forward twenty minutes, and things got out of hand quickly. The Garden City Trojans triumphed to an 11-3 victory over Bellmore JFK on Monday afternoon, securing them a spot in the winners bracket where they will have the opportunity to advance to the quarterfinals. Early in the ballgame, Hofstra-commit Robert Lucano found himself in situations with runners in scoring position, but continued to work his way out of them. He finished five innings on the mound without allowing an earned run. “I didn’t ...

Ward Melville Defeats Sachem East, 5-3, And Advances To Face West Islip

When two League 1 foes square off, it always promises to be a great ballgame . The Ward Melville Patriots won the game, 5-3, with Chris Buehler earning the win over Sachem East‘s ace Roman Dorosh. This matchup proved to be a gritty battle between two rival teams. LIU Brooklyn-commit Buehler earned the win after tossing five and two thirds innings. The crafty lefty threw five innings of three-hit ball but ran into trouble in the sixth. Buehler was able to breathe easy on the mound, however, because Ward Melville’s offense put three runs up for him in the first. Second base and shortstop combo Brady and Logan Doran started the inning off with back-to-back base hits, with Brady reaching third on Logan’s hit. A wild pitch from Dorosh produced a close sliding play at home but the tag was ...

The hard-throwing 6’3″ RHP was lights-out from the first pitch of the game until his 75th and final pitch of the game. He allowed just a single in the second and another in the sixth as No. 9 Connetquot advances in the winner’s bracket over No. 8 Newfield. Savino said it “felt great” but deferred praise to his teammates noting the “defense was awesome and the hitting was awesome,” adding that ...

Suffolk CC Captures Region XV Championship With 7-2 Victory over Nassau CC

Winning pitcher Ryan Steffens is our @DigmiNation Player of the Game. He fired 7 strong innings to bring Suffolk CC the Region XV championship pic.twitter.com/7OjUhseJRf — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 12, 2018 The Suffolk vs. Nassau rivalry was alive and well this weekend at PAL Stadium. Despite the fact that the tournament took place in Suffolk County, Nassau was the higher seeded team after winning the regular season title after beating Suffolk three times in their four games. After yesterday’s 14-6 loss, Nassau had a quick turnaround and played Bronx CC later in the afternoon. The Lions dominated Bronx 14-1 and advanced to play Suffolk, needing to beat them twice in one day to win the tournament. The two teams went on to play each other 18 innings and roughly six hours after...

Nick Lucchese is our @DigmiNation Player of the Game he was also named Most Outstanding Player of the ECC Tournament. The Spartans are looking to return to the Div-II College World Series pic.twitter.com/45GjP1pRhK — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 12, 2018 One of the hallmarks of St. Thomas Aquinas baseball over the past five seasons is that they are calm, cool and collected in big moments. It came as no surprise that even with Molloy getting the tying-run to third base and the potential go-ahead run on first base in the ninth inning of the ECC Championship that relief pitcher Chris Pennell would make a quality pitch and induce a soft fly out to left field to seal the 3-2 victory for the Spartans and the 2018 ECC Championship. “I’m enjoying the moment,” said tou...

Rosner Works Out of a Bases Loaded Jam, Farmingdale Edges Syosset

Justin Rosner talks about how he got out of the bases loaded nobody out situation. pic.twitter.com/IHmyo8i1gJ — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 12, 2018 The weather may not have been ideal for playoff baseball, but that didn’t effect the competitiveness from both Farmingdale and Syosset. Prior to first pitch, there was little-to-no chance that the playoff contest was going to start on time, due to heavy rain. However, when the umpires agreed to allow the game to start on time, a roar of excitement came from both dugouts as both teams were fired up for the do-or-die game. Considering the poor playing conditions, there was no telling how this game would pan out. The Dalers came out of the gates firing, scoring three runs in the first inning highlighted by a Sean Sullivan 2-run...

Anthony Pellegrino got the start for Island Trees and made the most of the opportunity, throwing a complete game with 7 strikeouts and no walks. The senior ace was rattled early as Locust Valley snagged an early lead, but bounced back and seemed to get better as the contest wore on. “We saved Anthony for this game and he came through for us,” Bulldogs head coach Joe D’Auria said. “He went the distance and gutted it out against a good team… it means for us.” At t...

Suffolk CC Advances To NJCAA Region XV Championship With Blowout Win Over Nassau, 14-6

Suffolk CC displayed a show of dominance in their 14-6 victory over Nassau CC in the NJCAA Region XV playoffs. The Sharks advance to tomorrow and are set to play Nassau again, needing just one win to advance to the World Series. Despite the impressive run margin, Suffolk was down 3-0 after the first inning. Nassau sophomore outfielder Vincent Napolitano got this three-and-a-half hour offensive showcase started by driving a two-out, three-run homerun over the left field fence. “We had great approaches and we swung at really good pitches,” said Suffolk head coach Brian Klammer. “Not swinging at bad pitches is the key to winning.” Suffolk, however, was not deterred by this quick three-run deficit. The Sharks’ offense proved to be both resilient and relentless. They came right back and plated ...

Michael Manzione crushed a 2-out grand slam to cut the deficit to 8-6 in the ninth pic.twitter.com/ilbUbfYFUU — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 11, 2018 What was a sure victory with two outs, nobody on base in the ninth inning and a six-run lead turned into an absolute nail biter. Chris Cepeda stated he was “praying” it would get caught. “Thank God Gio {Giovanni Dingcong} was there,” said Cepeda, who recorded the victory. The Ward Melville product went six innings, allowed two ER, walked one and struck out five for his seventh victory of the season. Angelo Baez allowed a two-out grand slam to Michael Manzione, followed by a single to Anthony Vaglica after a 6-4-3 DP put them one-out away from the ECC Championship with an 8-2 lead. Molloy is set to face the loser of Post vs. St. Thomas Aquinas later this afternoon. The Lions got to Bridgeport starting pitcher Anthony Martino early. Angelo Navetta tripled down the right field line in the top of the first to bring in Jake Saltzman and Jack McCarty. The Pioneers came away with the 4-0 victory, advancing to the winner’s bracket of the tournament. The Pioneers went down 1-2-3 in the first inning but the bats went to work in the second inning.
