Mike Grisanti talks about his dominant performance that led his team to victory. pic.twitter.com/UKScF9Ns66 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 22, 2018 The weather certainly wasn’t ideal for playoff baseball on Tuesday afternoon, but that didn’t stop Massapequa from coming out of the gates firing. Thank to a six-run first inning, Massapequa prevailed over Plainview JFK by a score of 8-3 in game one of the Class AA Semifinals. John Cooke got the start for Plainview on the bump, but the Chiefs wasted no time getting to him. Johnny Castagnozzi got the rally started for Massapequa by ripping a bases loaded RBI single to left field. Mike Grisanti followed up the Castagnozzi RBI with a 2 RBI double, and Mike Moreno delivered a sacrifice fly. All of a sudden, it was a 4-0 lead...
A bases clearing triple for Tom Force gives SJB an 8-5 lead in the sixth ! pic.twitter.com/wlUpdSOpOy — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 22, 2018 What began as a 5-0 game that appeared to be in-hand, turned into a wild nail-biter that was capped by a bases-clearing triple by Tom Force, the second of its kind for the St. John the Baptist Cougars in their 8-5 victory over Chaminade. Chaminade threatened to put a rally together in the bottom of the seventh, getting the tying run to the plate, but SS E.J. Exposito came in and promptly struck out three batters, with his last pitch registering at 87 MPH to end the game. The Cougars got out to an early lead in this one. Force hit an RBI single and catcher Logan O’Hoppe ripped a bases-clearing double to open up a 4-0 lead. O’Ho...
Final: Hauppauge 2, BBP 1 (11 innings) WP: Pete Sanderson Ryan Levenberg hits walk-off sac fly Rob Ray pitches CG pic.twitter.com/ANoE4lPiD0 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 21, 2018 Extra inning games typically do not feature complete games, and if they do, it’s usually not at the varsity level of high school in which a state-wide pitch limit is enforced. Robert Ray, Bayport-Blue Point‘s southpaw pitcher found a way to do so. The hard-throwing LHP pitched into the 11th inning against Hauppauge before sophomore Ryan Levenberg hit a sac fly to score Anthony Ferrara and give the Eagles a 3-2 victory. Offense was at a premium with two outstanding pitchers on the mound. Hauppauge’s Kevin Sambuco was extremely effective as well, allowing only an RBI ground out in the...
Tyler Marinaccio sends Plainview to the semifinals!!!!! FINAL: Plainview 3 Port Washington 2 WP – Justin Kim Tyler Marinaccio: Walkoff RBI pic.twitter.com/Sc6syB0Vk6 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 21, 2018 From first pitch of this ballgame until the final pitch, this game had more roller coasters than Six Flags. In perhaps the most exciting game this season, Plainview JFK squeaked past Port Washington by a score of 3-2 in twelve innings. As a result, they will be moving on to the Class AA semifinals. If you were to ask any player on either team, they will say this was the longest 24 hours of their lives. The first pitch of the do-or-die game three was at 5PM on Sunday evening. The final pitch of the game came a little after 5PM on Monday evening. On Sunday evening, this w...
Brandon Buchan threw 6.1 scoreless en route to a dominating game 1 win. Game 2 tomorrow at MacArthur. pic.twitter.com/geZGzk6jbw — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 21, 2018 The MacArthur Generals made the short trip across Levittown and destroyed their crosstown rivals Division, 9-0, in game one of a best-of-three Nassau Conference A semi-final. Both starting pitchers, Nick Fressle for the Blue Dragons and Brandon Buchan for MacArthur both shut down the opposition in the first three innings. Division threatened in the bottom of the second, but a failed suicide squeeze got Buchan out of it after the Blue Dragons got a runner in scoring position with nobody out. After a RBI single from Joe Ricciardi to open the scoring, Ryan Wall drove in two to give the Generals a 3-0 lead. MacA...
Our @DigmiNation player of the game: Joey Savino. He pitched a complete game while only allowing one run to save the T-Birds from elimination. Both teams now have one loss in the double-elimination tournament and will play each other on Tuesday. Connetquot won behind another stellar pitching performance from Joey Savino. The junior, who has yet to commit to a college, was coming off a two-hit, complete game shutout against Newfield on Friday and picked up right where he left off on Monday. Our Digmi P...
Farmingdale is onto the semifinals! FINAL: Farmingdale 8 Calhoun 1 WP – Justin Rosner (Complete game) pic.twitter.com/4sD41oRuzC — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 20, 2018 For the second time in the past ten days, Farmingdale was on the brink of elimination. Again, they came out on top. The Dalers defeated Calhoun by a score of 8-1 and secured a spot in the Class AA semifinals. When the pressure is at its climax, Justin Rosner always finds a way to stay calm. Once again, his best stuff came in an elimination game. The sophomore finished the day going the distance, allowing only one earned run while striking out nine. “Everything was working for me, my slider I like to keep them off balance to start them out and then come in hard with the fastball,” said Rosner. &...
FINAL: North Shore 5 Mepham 2 WP: David Aufiero (CG, 2ER) Mike Tedesco: HR pic.twitter.com/2eyZhBOSgg — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 18, 2018 Pitching on three days rest is never an easy task to accomplish, especially when it comes in an elimination game. However, that didn’t stop David Aufiero from bringing his best stuff. The hard throwing ace went the distance for North Shore, propelling them to a 5-2 victory over Mepham. He finished his outing allowing seven hits, one earned run and struck out eight. “I just did the same thing I’ve been doing all year and it worked out,” said Aufiero. At the plate, North Shore came out of the gates blazing hot. The Vikings put up three runs in the bottom half of the first, giving Aufiero a comfortable cushion to work...
Nassau Class A Playoffs Final: Clarke 8 Bethpage 1 pic.twitter.com/9S4enxHppj — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 18, 2018 Clarke defeated Bethpage, 8-1, in the Nassau Class A playoffs behind the stellar pitching performance of Chris Lydon. Lydon was touched up in the first game of the tournament in a relief effort but was able to bounce back in fine fashion, throwing a complete game one-run outing when the Reds needed it most. Head Coach Tom Abruscato was impressed with how well he commanded his pitches. “He’s an all star player. Doesn’t throw hard but three pitches he throws strikes with. He can throw a changeup in a fastball count, and a curveball in any count. When you do that, you can be successful at any level.” Lydon was given a nice cushion early, as Clarke powered home five...
Our @DigmiNation Player of the Game is Dan Palermo who hit a leadoff HR in Sachem East’s 8-2 victory pic.twitter.com/vnDXcHOMm3 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 18, 2018 When you play a team for the fifth time of the season, there are no surprises. The cream rises to the top on merit alone and Sachem East rose to the occasion from the first at bat–when center fielder and Iona-commit Dan Palermo launched a solo shot to left off Max Nielsen on their way to an 8-2 victory over Ward Melville. With the victory, the Arrows advance to face West Islip in the finals of Bracket #4. “We always like facing Ward Melville–they’re our biggest rival, we always get hyped for these kind of games and we love it,” said Palermo. They continued to tack on runs. Crai...
Rausch and Longwood HC Ryan McSherry spoke to Axcess Baseball after the game following the Lions’ dominant win, while the rest of the team enjoyed the victory in the background. pic.twitter.com/fBYRABZwHA — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 17, 2018 Longwood (16-5) and Sachem North (11-11) started an elimination game Tuesday afternoon in the Suffolk AA playoffs. However, after four and a half innings of play, a rainstorm forced the remainder of the game to be played Thursday. In the end, Longwood’s offensive dominance on Tuesday was enough to keep the team alive with a 14-4 win over the Arrows. Sachem North got to Lions’ starter Jared Vanderhoof early. Three of the first four batters got on base to start the top of the first, then Frank Arena worked a walk to give Sachem a 1-0 lead....

The two-time defending Long Island Class A champs came out firing early and never took their foot off the gas as they come one step closer on their quest for a three-peat. “We’ve been winning games but not always putting it together,” Wantagh head coach Keith Sachs said. “We hit the ball well, threw the ball well, made some clutch defensive plays…really I think we pl...
