Some of the best High School seniors on Long Island competed in the Blue Chip Challenge on Friday night in a Nassau versus Suffolk County All Star Game. In a night where the best Suffolk and Nassau Seniors on the Island played in a nine-inning exhibition, it was the Nassau squad who came out victorious in a close 5-4 win. Suffolk got the scoring started early as they took the lead in the top of the first inning on a Will Shaw sacrifice fly to bring in Jake Guercio. Guercio started the game with a scorching double into the right centerfield gap. Suffolk later tacked on a second run in the top of the third inning before Nassau could get on the board at all. A wild pitch allowed Guercio to score for the second time after he reached base with a single. Finally, in the bottom of the third innin...
When asked what he is going to do on his team’s first off day since Saturday, Long Island Road Warriors catcher Thomas Brady quite a relatable response. “Honestly, I’m just going to rest,” Brady said. “I need to rehab my legs, we’ve had a tough stretch and I think we deserve this day off.” A day off is more than deserved. The Road Warriors (5-0) opened its season on Sunday and have played (and won) every day since. In the team’s latest victory, Long Island outplayed Sag Harbor (1-3) at home, winning 3-2. Brady continued his impressive start to the season, picking up two RBIs, throwing out two runners trying to steal second and earning our @DigmiNation player of the game. “I’ve really been seeing the ball well,” Brady said. “Anything I can do to help the team win sits well with me.” The Roa...

That was the case Wednesday evening for the defending HCBL champion Long Island Road Warriors (4-0). The squad opened up its season with three-run victories in each of their first three games. On Wednesday, the Road Warriors were only able to get four hits on the Southampton Breakers (1-2), but still squeaked out with a 4-3 win at home. Southampton looked destined to snap Long Island’s win streak early. Brian Picone and Ryan Hatten each...

They joined the HCBL last year to replace the Montauk Mustangs as the team with the most local players and made an immediate impact, winning the league championship in their inaugural season. This year, coach Neal Heaton’s squad looks in top form to defend its title. After putting up nine runs on the Riverhead Tomcats to win their opener on Sunday, the Road Warriors picked up a 7-4 in their first home contest against the North Fork Ospreys (0-2). Long Island didn’t look like a championship team in the early go...
Nobody knows how to win championships better than Wantagh. On Sunday, the Wantagh Warriors defeated the Rocky Point Eagles by a score of 4-2 to capture their third consecutive Class A Long Island Championship. The highly anticipated pitching matchup between Joe Grillo and Anthony Fontana was everything that was expected, as both starters produced for their team. However, Fontana got the best of the Rocky Point lineup. He went the distance, allowing no earned runs on four hits. “This is incredible, three years in a row I could cry right now this is one of the greatest moments of my life, we work so hard for these moments and I’m really excited to go upstate,” said Fontana. “We’re going to work hard in practice this week, we have to sit through school this week ...

St. John the Baptist reliever, Will Lynch, who came on with a runner on third in the third inning wound up going the distance and completely mystifying the Bayhawks’ batters and recording the victory as the Cougars won, 5-3, to capture their first CHSAA title since 2014. “...

On Memorial Day afternoon, Wantagh proved they were worthy of completing the three-peat as they defeated the Division Blue Dragons by a score of 14-3, highlighted by a nine-run 7th inning. Although the Warriors won their third consecutive championship, this year was much different than the last two. In many ways, this game was over before it started. In 2016 and 2017, Wantagh needed three games to be crowned county champions. This year, they posted a clean sweep over Division, proving...

For the third consecutive year, Massapequa swept Oceanside in the postseason after getting swept by them in the regular season. This time, it was for the county championship. Similar to game one of the series, the Massapequa offense wasted no time getting to the vaunte...

They moved one step closer to being able to play another game of Kan Jam and by playing in another Long Island Championship with their thrilling 3-1 victory over an exciting and dangerous Eastport-South Manor team. Game one of the Suffolk County Class A Championship between Rocky Point and Shoreham-Wading River was a highly-anticipated matchup between two powerhouse programs that are also bordering towns. Rocky Point came out swinging and displayed dominance on the road, winning 10-1. “Stay focused. We’re not naïve enough to think that this team will not be ready to play tomorrow,” said Rocky Point head coach Andrew Aschettino. “We know how good of a program [SWR] is, which isn’t to say anyone is intimidated, but there’s respect there so we definitely have a focused approach moving into tomorrow.” Senior pitcher Ryan Maciaszek tossed an impressive game, holding SWR’s offense to just one run. The right-hander went 6.2 innings, allowing just one run while striking out four and walking five. “It was a g...
