This game determined which team would move on in the Blue-Chip Prospects 18u Great American Classic tournament. The Junior Ducks came into the game with a 2-0 record, while the Titans were sporting a 1-0-1 record. The winner would advance to the tournament’s playoffs. Thanks to great pitching from Junior Ducks starting pitcher Bobby Vath, the Junior Ducks advanced in the tournament. In this low-offensive affair, both teams combined for seven hits and all seven...

Sag Harbor Snaps Long Island’s Win Streak Behind Electric Offensive Performance

The Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League is full of offensive talent and a lot of that talent is playing for the Sag Harbor Whalers. They have five players who have played in at least seven games that bat over .300, but it hasn’t shown in their record. The Whalers were 5-6-1 coming into their game against the first-place Long Island Road Warriors on Thursday, not to mention LI was carrying a four-game win streak. Luckily for the Whalers, all their bats showed out at St. Joseph’s Outdoor Athletic Complex and lit up the scoreboard for an 11-5 victory. Sag Harbor came ready to play right out of the gates, taking a lead in the first inning and never looking back. Jason Allbery and Nick Thornquist slapped back-to-back RBI singles, setting the stage for third baseman Connor Anderson. The Texas-na...

Road Warriors Return to the Top of the League, Use Power to Halt Red-Hot Ospreys

Road Warriors pick up a 6-4 victory over North Fork Ospreys to move into sole possession of first place pic.twitter.com/hnqkXzhI8Q — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 20, 2018 One week ago, the Long Island Road Warriors hit their first brick wall of the season. They dropped a key game to Westhampton, who they have been trading on-and-off with for first place in the HCBL, and proceeded to go on a three-game losing streak. It was unfamiliar territory for the defending league champions after starting the season winning seven of their first eight games. But that was last week. This week, the narrative is back to what Neal Heaton and his unit are accustomed to. The Road Warriors (11-4-0) are atop the HCBL after picking up a 6-4 victory over the North Fork Ospreys (6-8-2) on Wednesday. T...

Early Offense, Strong Outing by Chris McLaughlin A Winning Formula For Hitter’s Club

Our @DigmiNation player of the game is Chris McLaughlin. He struck out seven as his Hitters Club Hawkeyes defeated Team Steel. pic.twitter.com/N4Z78UcXSQ — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 19, 2018 Hitter’s Club Hawkeye’s 17u team defeated Team Steel 17u 5-0 at Hofstra University on Tuesday thanks to early offense and great pitching from their staff. It did not take long for the Hitter’s Club Hawkeyes to get the scoring started. They came to bat in the bottom of the first and scored three quick runs to jump out to an early lead.  Chris Lydon got the offense started with a base hit to start the inning for the Hawkeyes and he came around to score the first run of the game on an infield error. With a man on, Matt LaSala drove in another run with a single to add to the Hawkeyes lead. ...

Sean Kennedy, Titans’ Bats Stay Red Hot in 10-1 Victory

Sean Kennedy talks about the LI Titans’ 10-1 victory this evening. pic.twitter.com/zZQaaA7PFm — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 19, 2018 The Long Island Titans improved to 6-0 in the Boys of Summer 16U Scout Division, scoring at least 10 for the third successive game in a 10-1 victory over the B1000 Seminoles.  After a scoreless top of the 1st thrown by the Titans starter Sanchese, the leadoff man in the bottom of the first manufactured a run. C.J. Cumbo singled, stole second, got to third on a groundout, and scored on a wild pitch.  Later in the same frame, after a walk and a hit batter, Sean Kennedy drove one into the alley in left center that would plate a pair. Kennedy, who was at third, scored on a sacrifice fly.  “I jumped on the fastball today,” Kennedy said. “I took an ag...

Whalers and Ospreys End in Tie After Nolan Kessinger’s Heroics

On Friday, both the Sag Harbor Whalers and the North Fork Ospreys had a double header scheduled, not against each other, at Baseball Heaven. The two teams met right after they played their first games. The Whalers lost earlier in the day to the Riverhead Tomcats and the Ospreys pulled out a victory against the Southampton Breakers. When the two teams matched up for their second game, both teams looked evenly matched throughout the whole game and eventually ended in a 4-4 tie after an inning of extra innings. The Whalers got the scoring started early as Sam Cachola raced around to score the first run of the game on the RBI double from Nick Thornquist. The Whalers were unable to add any more runs in the inning after a base running mistake by Thornquist that led to an inning ending double pla...

Riverhead Snaps Losing Skid by Defeating the HCBL’s Best at Home

Riverhead earned a 6-5 win over HCBL-leading Westhampton behind 3 RBIs from Eduardo Malinowski. The slugger spoke with Justin Paura after his big game, and his teams got in on the fun, too. pic.twitter.com/V1Dixv95PL — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 15, 2018 This week hasn’t been quite what the Riverhead Tomcats (4-3-1) expected. After starting the season at a respectable 3-1-1, John Galanoudis’ squad dropped two straight games to the previously winless North Fork Ospreys on, one at home on Monday and one on the road Tuesday. However, the Tomcats did not let the losses get to them. It seems they recognize how long the HCBL season is and came into Thursday afternoon with a complete change of pace. Riverhead matched the amount of runs they scored in the two games against North For...

Controversial Finish Ends 16u National Game Between East End Aviators and Islip Owls in a Tie

One word that nobody likes to hear in baseball is tie. For the most part, baseball games rarely ever end in a tie, but when Mother Nature interjects, there’s not much that can be done about it. The 16u National game between the Islip Owls and East End Aviators featured a slow pace of play. It became quite clear early on that the weather and darkness could play a major role in the outcome of this game. The Owls jumped out to a quick lead in the top of the first when John Rivera brought home RJ Wagner with an RBI single. In the bottom of the 2nd, it looked as if the Aviators had taken the lead but Chris Rouleau’s 2 RBI doubled was called off due to the use of an illegal bat. The batter was called out and the runners had to go back to the previous base. Wagner took advantage of the brea...

LI Titans Cruise Past LI Baseball, 12-0

The Long Island Titans made quick work of LI Baseball, winning 12-0 in a mercy rule shortened three inning game. Coach Eric Joyner said that his team was focused on “having a good approach with two strikes, moving runners over, and having productive outs” adding that “we were able to put the ball in the gap, we ran the bases well, and stole some bases when we had the opportunity”. He went on to further say “when you do all the little things well, everything comes together”. The Titans sent Jimmy Mahoney to the mound, and it was somewhat of a shaky start for him. He gave up a leadoff single, followed up by a walk. He then got the next batter to weakly line out. With one out, both base runners stole, putting themselves in scoring position. However, Mahoney worked his way out of trouble with ...

Ospreys Pick Up First Win of 2018 on the Road Against Riverhead

North Fork defeats Riverhead, 3-2, with JC Santini notching the go-ahead hit. He’s our @DigmiNation Player of the Game pic.twitter.com/V3mn546GYd — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 11, 2018 The first seven games of the North Fork Osprey’s season did not go exactly as planned. In fact, things went nearly as poorly as possible. Bill Ianniciello‘s squad opened up the summer with a 0-6-1 record, leaving them in last place in the league. Luckily for the Ospreys, it’s a long summer and thanks to the heroics of JC Santini, the comeback game starts now. The California-native supplied the go-ahead hit in the top of the eighth to give North Fork (1-6-1) a 3-2 victory over the Riverhead Tomcats (3-2-1). It was a pitcher’s duel early at Veterans Memorial Park. Austin Smith got the...

Thunder Use Big Fifth Inning to Dismantle Sound

After starting the season 6-1, the Sound have now lost three straight, scoring a combined six runs in the three defeats. The Thunder’s bats started off hot, as they plated a pair in their first trip to the plate. Luke Scoggins and Mike Manetta drove in a run apiece to get the bats rolling. Lorenzo Russo started for the Thunder and after sending the side down in order in order to start the game, he gave up a solo shot to Mike Wall. He then gave up a walk and a single and l...
