Adelphi Head Coach Dom Scala discusses how his team overcame the flu bug and their 10-5 victory over Molloy today pic.twitter.com/0mFiNLhEG8 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 19, 2019 Over the past week, several members of the Adelphi Panthers have been relegated to the bench due to flu-like symptoms. Being in close quarters, one player can cause a number of others to get sick and that was a major reason for their recent defeats on their annual trip to Florida. Fortunately, getting back to New York was exactly the spark the offense needed to get back on track as they used the long ball to power past local rival, Molloy College, by the score of 10-5. Lawrence Cicileo continued his red-hot start to the season with a two-run first inning HR to score Brett Malm and give the Panthers...
Tim Panetta carried a shutout into the 9th inning. He discusses the victory for Molloy pic.twitter.com/H0K4YqVKOm — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 17, 2019 Molloy has spent this weekend showing that they know how to score. After a double-header with Concordia, where they scored a combined 23 runs on the day, Molloy added another 10 in today’s win over Dominican. The question with Molloy is not whether they can score enough to win, but whether they can limit the opposition enough.. When they get performances from their starters like the one from today by Timothy Panetta, then Molloy will certainly be tough to beat moving forward. Panetta was dominant on the day, carrying a five-hit shutout into the 9th inning today. He did fall into some trouble in the 9th as Dominican was able ...
Quite the opposite of Saturday’s result, LIU Post suffered a two-game sweep at the hands of Assumption. They now stand at 9-7 on the season. Up next for the Pioneers is East Strousburg, who they play on Wednesday at 3 PM. Game One: From the beginning of this game, it seemed as if Post was in control once again. They jumped out to an early 2-0 start, thanks to RBI from Mike Manzione and Anthony Vaglica. On the mound, Mike Stiles got the start for the Pioneers and was fantastic. Through the first three innings, he struck out six batters. He finished going seven innings, allowing five hits, no earned runs and struck out eight batters. At the start of the 6th inning, Assumption got things started with a lead off single by Alex Richardson, who would advance to second on a throwing error. ...
Final: LIU Post 3, Assumption 1 WP: Varela S: Loeschorn Here’s Varela on the win pic.twitter.com/igKcB5YEIW — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 16, 2019 Game 1 Great pitchers rise to the occasion. Over the past year, James Varela has proven his value to LIU Post time-and-time again. Today was no different, as the senior RHP was outstanding in the Pioneers’ 3-1 victory over Assumption. Over 8 IP, he allowed just 5 hits, 1 BB with 14 strikeouts to improve to 2-2 on the season. Freshman Josh Loeschorn came in and fired a 1-2-3 ninth inning with two strikeouts for his second save of the season. It appeared the Pioneers would have an easy afternoon victory when they got out to quick 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Dave Brehm and a wild pitch that scored Chr...
Nick Grande makes a nice play moving away from home plate. Stony Brook leads 3-0 after 1 inning pic.twitter.com/CE6OpChqg2 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 13, 2019 Stony Brook bounced back from Tuesday’s defeat by Iona with a smooth 9-3 victory over LIU Brooklyn. The offense got out to a quick start in the first inning with a three-spot. RBI singles by Brandon Alamo, Chris Hamilton and a sac fly by Evan Giordano gave them so cushion, and they never looked back. Bret Clarke made his first outing of the year and he was sharp; going two shutout innings and striking out two batters. He was named our 2016 Rookie of the Year. If he can rediscover that form, it will be a huge boost for the Sea Wolves. He topped out at 91 MPH in his outing. He was relieved by hard-throwing fresh...

They begin their season with an 11-1 victory over Lehman. They compiled 13 hits and benefited from shoddy defense, as Lehman committed six defensive miscues. Ryan Foran got the start. The reigning Paul Gibson Award winner was sharp in his collegiate debut, throwing two shutout innings, allowing just one hit. Their ace, Anthony Papa, also pitched two innings, touching 89 MPH on a few occasions. Other pitchers that threw an inning were Nick Mannarino, Kevin Yohe, Tim Woodford, Anthony Caminiti and Justin...
Brian Perez on his walk-off hit and the DH sweep for Farmingdale to start 2019 season pic.twitter.com/6yn4rvDK9A — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 9, 2019 Game 1: After having last week’s double-header was cancelled due to weather, Farmingdale was anxious to get on the field today against Lehman college. They showed they were ready to go, winning the first game 6-2. Farmingdale immediately got things started in the 1st, when a double-steal plated freshman, Patrick Leach, giving the Rams their first run of the season. The Rams were aggressive all day on the base paths, stealing nine in the first game. Shortstop Brian Perez would immediately follow up with an RBI single to give the Rams a 2-0 lead. The Rams would threaten but not score until the fourth, when they busted the game o...
It’s hard enough to perform at full strength as an athlete in competition. After all, your opposition has a job too. It makes it even more impressive, then, when an athlete is able to overcome an illness and their opposition at the same time–which is precisely what Jake Griffin (Kingston, PA) did last night in the championship of Perfect Game’s Super 25 Northeast Championship in Staten Island. The 14-year-old fired a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts in a 9-1 victory for Team Beast United over the Diamond Jacks. The young hustler hit 84 MPH with his fastball, mixing in a sharp breaking ball, which proved to be too much for opposing batters. His offense provided plenty of support, too. They broke through with four runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by RBI singles by Dylan S...
Rob Moir on the 13-1 victory by the 4-Seam Falcons pic.twitter.com/uFRaXCSYq6 — Axcess Sports (@AxcessSports) October 15, 2018 The last time the NY Phantoms and 4-Seam Falcons squared off, the Phantoms took a 4-1 lead into the ninth inning. The Falcons came storming back and scored 12 unanswered runs to pull off a big victory in Stan Musial League action. Tonight, they continued that onslaught of runs with a 13-1 victory in a game that ended after 5 innings due to the run rule. Starting pitcher Christian Falcaro set the tone by striking out the first six batters of the game, and his offense backed him with a flurry of runs early on. Three walks and a hit by pitch in the first inning, followed by a wild pitch that scored two runs handed them two gift runs and Rob Moir drove an RBI single to...
Winning pitcher Derek Rivera on the victory in the championship @EcybTournaments pic.twitter.com/epFYI1NE3d — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) October 8, 2018 Pitching and defense is still the most tried-and-true recipe for success across all levels of the game of baseball. The Islip Owls played excellent defense, received a complete game gem from Derek Rivera and, oh that’s right, they also put up 11 runs to capture the 12U championship of the East Coast Columbus Day Tournament. “It was a complete effort the entire weekend,” said their Head Coach. “They did the little things from taking extra bases, hitting behind runners, hitting sac flies, it was an all-around team effort,” he added. They wasted zero time getting on the board in the top of the first inning when Jimmy Reidy led off w...
Walk-Off Win for the Titans ! Aaron Stander scores on a wild pitch and the Titans complete a last inning comeback to win 7-6 pic.twitter.com/QRuhIYJgyu — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) October 7, 2018 Despite trailing by two runs entering the bottom of the sixth inning, Matt Nowlan was confident that his LI Titans would be able to mount a comeback with the top of the order coming up. He proved to be prophetic, thanks in large part to his game-tying two-run double to left center field, which was followed by a walk-off wild pitch that scored Aaron Stander to deliver a dramatic 7-6 victory for Titans to send them into the semfinals of the East Coast Columbus Day Tournament tomorrow against the Islip Owls. An inside-the-Park 2-R HR for Dan Defonte and Batting 1.000 takes an early 2-0 lead in the first ! pic.twitter.com/G3N3AM2lwr — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) October 6, 2018 “He hit bombs” is one way to put it. Those were the words of winning pitcher Spyro Matarangas in regards to the amazing performance from cleanup hitter Danny Defonte. The young slugger smacked 2 HRs in Batting 1.000’s 11-2 victory over the Oil City Bandits, including a two-run shot in the first inning to open up the scoring. They never looked back after that, opening the game up with a six-spot in the second inning to put it out of reach, especially with Matarangas throwing strikes, working quickly and fielding his position very well on a handful of comebackers to the mound. “The improvem...
