Inning-after-inning that’s what we saw from both Pat-Med RHP Randall Alejo (St. Rose-commit) and Longwood LHP Steven Murphy (Adelphi-commit). Both starting pitchers exited with the score tied 0-0, but Murphy left with a runner on first in the ninth inning following a lead off walk to Tyler Miller. An E5 called for an obvious bunting situation. With the victory, Garden City improves to a county best record of 13-1 on the season. Right off the bat, it seemed as if this was going to be a blowout. In the bottom of the first inning, RBI from Jay Brown, Jake Fraher and a bases loaded walk provided Garden City with an early 3-0 lead. After nearly batting around in the first inning, this meant that the middle of the Garden City lineup was due up once again in the second. With two runners on base, Andrew Zupicich ...
Vinny Rice was named Most Outstanding Player of the Skyline Conference Tournament pic.twitter.com/IWOlmeoLyL — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 7, 2019 For much of the past two months, Farmingdale State has showed that they were the top team in the Skyline Conference and they made it official by capturing the crown with an 8-5 victory over SUNY Old Westbury on their home turf. He had a huge championship game beginning with a two-run double in the first inning to get the Rams on the board. “This means everything,” he said. “The best thing about going to Farmingdale is that there’s one goal and that’s to win,” he said following the game. “Time and time again we’re al...

From the get go, Wantagh wasted no time getting out in front. In the top of the first inning, Dylan Scott gave the Warriors an early 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly. From this point forward, Wantagh never surrendered the lead. Mason McLane got the start in game one of the series and was phenomenal. Entering the game, he had 70 strikeouts through 38.2 innings pitched. It’s safe to say he looked as good as advertised. McLane finished allowing five hits, one ear...

A major component of said style of play includes bunting and that was the difference in a winner’s bracket game that sent Farmingdale State to the Skyline Conference Championship game which will be played tomorrow. They outlasted No. 2 seed USMMA, 5-4, in a thrilling 12-inning game. Cam Alfano came up with the bases loaded and 1-out following an intentional walk of Tyler Schrimpf. A constant drizzle on this cloudy Saturday morning could not detract from an otherwise fantastic day, as Rocky Point and Mount Sinai met for their annual Live Like Susie fundraiser game. The game, played each year since 2014, is in honor of a Rocky Point alumna, Susie Facini, who passed away suddenly in 2011. The proceeds from this game fund a scholarship in Susie’s name that is awarded to a Rocky Point student each year who exhibits many of the qualities that Susie did. Susie was described as the kind of person who’s presence could just light up a room. In a pre-game ceremony, Rocky Point head coach Anthony Anzalone said “it just epitomizes, in a world of craziness, how you’re supposed to live your life. She just made things so much better when she walked into a room.” Both Rocky Point an...
Farmingdale, NY– It was a long day of baseball in day one of the Skyline Conference double-elimination tournament, but aside some rain delays and thick fog, there was no surprised. Here he is speaking about the win pic.twitter.com/1PZk6ecroZ — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 3, 2019 Christian Tessitore and Andrew Spinnenweber squared off in a battle of hard-throwing RHPs. Merchant Marines got off to a quick 1-0 start in the second inning when Kyle Cunningham broke on contact with the infield drawn in on a ground ball to shortstop off the bat of Matt Mundorf. It seemed aggressive, but his speed was the difference as he beat the throw home. They added another run in the second inning ...
It hasn’t been a great season for Eastport-South Manor, coming off an appearance in the Suffolk County AA Finals last May. You would never know by their performance today, as freshman Jake Deslauriers pitched mature beyond his years. The young RHP was efficient and dominant in a 4-0 shutout over a solid Kings Park team. He fired a three-hit shutout, not allowing a runner past second base in the game. “I really thought I would do well today,” he said. “That’s what I was planning to do. I tried to get my team a win–we’ve been struggling, but I had to go out and do something. They have a tough lineup but I had to find a way to work through it,” he added. His offense go him a run to work with early. After the first two batters were retired by Chr...
