Adelphi’s Ninth Inning Rally Comes Up Just Short, Fall to No. 8 Franklin Pierce 4-3

It’s not often that the No. 1 seed has to face a seasoned and battle-tested No. 8 seed such as Franklin Pierce. The host Adelphi Panthers dropped the first round of the NCAA Division-II East Regional, 4-3, to the NE-10 Champions. In front of a packed house at William J. Bonomo Field the top-seeded Panthers fell behind 2-0 in the second inning on a two-run double by Jonel Ozuna to put the Ravens ahead 2-0. This came after a dominant first inning for Baram who blew 91 MPH fastballs past two of the first three batters in a 1-2-3 inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Lucas Terwilliger got the Panthers on the board with an RBI single to cut the deficit in half. The Panthers missed several run-scoring opportunities in this game, failing to capitalize on five Ravens’ errors. It was a m...

Chris Roach Delivers 16 Strikeout Gem To Lift MacArthur Past Plainedge

FINAL: MacArthur 1 Plainedge 0 WP: Chris Roach (CG, 2H, 0ER, 16K) pic.twitter.com/OQ4powmQVt — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 15, 2019 The Class A playoffs are officially underway in Nassau County, as 16 teams began their quest for a County Championship on Wednesday afternoon. In Levittown, the #9 seeded Plainedge Red Devils took on the #8 seeded MacArthur Generals. It was MacArthur who got the best of Plainedge, walking away with a slim 1-0 victory. Considering it was game one of the playoffs, both coaches called upon their aces to take the hill. For MacArthur, senior Chris Roach was handed the ball. The first at-bat of the game, he surrendered a single to Anthony Labita. However, he rebounded instantly as he struck out the next three batters. He went the distance in this one, a...

Jordan Ramlogan’s Triple Delivers Holy Trinity With Upset Over St. Dominic

In the ultra-competitive CHSAA, the Titans know every team is tough and they also know they can compete with anyone. “I’ve told this team all year that if you play good baseball, take care of the ball, play together as group–they can beat anyone,” said second-year Head Coach Dan Luisi. “Doesn’t matter who they’re facing, just play tough, stay with your guys and compete, you have a shot to win any baseball game,” he said. They jumped out to an early 1-0 lead against Teddy Brennan on an RBI single by Stephen...

Mepham Knocks Off Wantagh, 3-2, Behind Gianni Macchio’s Walk Off Double

Gianni Macchio walks it off with a 2RBI double and Mepham eliminates Wantagh!!!!!! FINAL: Mepham 3 Wantagh 2 WP: Tyler O’Neill (CG) Gianni Macchio: Walk off pic.twitter.com/KWbKBq1QJ9 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 14, 2019 There is nothing quite like the atmosphere of a win-or-go home playoff game. In any given sport, emotions are always at their peak and anything can happen. Sure enough, this ballgame lived up to the hype. In a game for the ages, Mepham knocked off the three-time defending Long Island Champion Wantagh Warriors on a two strike, walk off 2 RBI double courtesy of Gianni Macchio. Heading into Monday, nobody predicted this outcome. Considering the fact Wantagh was sending their ace, Mason McLane, to the mound, it seemed even more unlikely. Tyler O’Neill got ...

JC Canobbio Throws Out Tying Run at the Plate to End Game

Colin Rhein took a no-hitter into the 7th inning with 2 outs before a bloop single by Charles Hardwick ended it. He still finished with a 2-hit shutout to get Lindenhurst within 1 win of the postseason. He’s our @BsbLifestyle101 Player of the Game pic.twitter.com/s0PfgjzHWI — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 14, 2019 Colin Rhein claims he didn’t know he had a no-hitter going. Not going into the seventh inning and not even after he got the first two outs. It’s probably good considering the no-hit bit ended in the most unique fashion as he struck out the batter but a dropped third strike allowed him to reach first base safely. After a clean single to center broke up the no-hitter and a second hit threatened to end the shutout, center fielder JC Canobbio fired a stri...

Suffolk Defeats Nassau to Win Region XV Championship

Suffolk defeats Nassau by a score of 11-2 to win the regional championship. pic.twitter.com/5hn4idy9wk — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 11, 2019 On a beautiful spring afternoon, the Nassau Community College Lions were taking on the Suffolk County Community College Sharks in the Region XV Championship game. Southpaw Tyler Schmid took the mound for Suffolk, and immediately found himself in some trouble, walking the first two batters he faced. However, after a 6-6-3 double play, and a flyout to center, he was able to escape trouble. Nassau starting pitcher, Patrick Denicola, had a relatively clean frame. After allowing a one out double to Christian Lent, he retired the next two batters to strand Lent at second. All the runs that Suffolk would need were scored in the bottom of the se...

Coach Gaghan discusses the victory @EcybTournaments pic.twitter.com/kPICaAF215 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 11, 2019 by Nick Frigerio Friday night was a hard fought battle between the 11u Batting 1.000 Seminoles and the 11u LI Thunder. Right from the start you knew both teams were fired up. As both coaches had their teams clapping to hear their lineups and had their teams energetic while doing their pre-game routines. As the game got underway, Colin Driscoll was the starting pitcher for the Seminoles. It did not take long for the LI Thunder to strike first, as Brady Kelly got them going in the top half of the first with a 1 out single. Followed by another single by Michael Colin. Clean up hitter Ryan Jazylo connected with a RBI single to drive in Brady Kelly, to give the Thun...

Islip Owls get Struck by Long Island Thunder

by Ethan Marshall Coach Domenick Caponi on the victory @EcybTournaments pic.twitter.com/IbfjiSwVud — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 11, 2019 The Long Island Thunder, behind an offensive explosion and a strong start by Nick Williams, defeated the Islip Owls 13-8. A five-run first inning for the Thunder set the tone for the game, and the Owls were unable to keep up. Thunder head coach Domenick Caponi believes this victory is a good sign his team is getting out of an offensive funk. “I told my team right off the bat, we have to come out explosive, and they did,” Coach Caponi said. “The bats were hot and they never died down.” Each of the first six hitters in the Thunder lineup finished the game with at least one RBI and one run scored. Cleanup hitter Thomas DeSantis led the way with...

Pioneers Stay Red-Hot, Advance to ECC Championship Game

The LIU Post won their eighth game in their last nine tries, and this was an important one–as they punch their ticket to the ECC Championship. They will now have to win just one of two games tomorrow to capture their second ECC Championship in the past three seasons. The offense came to play today, they put up 11 runs on 15 hits. The biggest contributor was Mike Manzione, who homered twice (his 8th and 9th of the season). They wasted no time in this one–as they posted a three-spot in the first inning against Bridgeport starter Chris Martucci. Chris Wasson got it going with an RBI double to score Giovanni Ciaccio. A sac fly by Dave Brehm scored Wasson and Manzione’s first home run made it 3-0. LIU Post LHP Noah Lorenzo continued his strong season. He fired scoreless inning...

They cruised past the Knights, 14-1, with the offense posting 21 hits led by SS Ben McNeill‘s 4 hit and 4 RBI day. Also joining him in the hit parade was Matt Malone with three. Another major story line was the two program records that were set. Starting pitcher D.J. Masuck went six shutout innings for his 10th win of the season, which ties a program-record set by Chris Perez (2006) and Joe Esposito (2005). Closer Ariel Taveras entered in the seventh inning and fi...

Hewlett Defeats Bethpage 5-1 To Clinch Playoff Spot

FINAL: Hewlett 5 Bethpage 1 WP: Anthon Isayov Hewlett is going to the playoffs! pic.twitter.com/0HmsPpnoJi — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 9, 2019 With the season on the line, Hewlett came out on top against Bethpage on Thursday, by a score of 5-1. The victory secures their spot in the Class A playoffs, as they will face Division in the first round on Tuesday. After dropping the first two games of the series against the conference champions, Hewlett knew they needed to jump out to an early lead in order to have a chance. They did just that. With a runner on third and two outs, Antonio Edigio drove a single the other way to give Hewlett the early first inning lead. Edigio would come through for the Bulldogs once again in the 3rd inning, driving in another run. Edigio’s RBI ...
