Coming into today’s game had to feature two of the hottest teams in all of Long Island. Freedom Baseball, a group that was 13-4 on the year coming into the match up, has been one of the top defensive teams in this league. During their 7-game win streak they’ve only allowed 1 run per game and have had three shutouts. They take on the B1000 Seminoles who have won four of their last 5 games and their coaches say when the offense is on they are a very tough team to beat. They’ve done it on both sides of the baseball throughout this hot stretc...
Not often will you find a cleaner game of baseball at the 10u level than in today’s finals of the ‘Beat the Heat’ tournament at Plainedge Park between the LI Titans-Anderson and the Smithtown Bulls. The game took a swift 1 hour, 34 minutes and the Titans held off a late Bulls rally to triumph by the score of 7-5. Here’s how it went down. The pitching match up of Joey Lionetti for the Titans and Ronan Keely for the Bulls was a good one but each made a mistake in the first inning. Angelo Ciminiello, younger brother of Seton Hall-commit Mike Ciminiello, crushed a one-out home run to left field in the top of the first to get the Bulls on the board. The Titans wasted no time in responding with a leadoff HR by Joey Irrizary to tie the game up 1-1. In the top of the second...

Dream Chasers starting pitcher Cameron Lynch allowed just one run and two hits with six strikeouts over 5.2 innings and Julian Martinez’s 3-run homer in the third inning broke the game open. Dream Chasers coach Danny Corona credited the team’s performance both on the field and at the plate for their championship. “I’m a big believer that defense wins ballgames and our team stepped up to the plate this weekend and played some great defense,” Coach Coro...
It was a comeback for the ages on Saturday afternoon at Mitchel Field in the 11u division of the ‘Beat the Heat‘ tournament. This was a tale of two games. There was the first half of the game that was all Team Beast, and the second half that was all Oil City Bandits, as OCB came away with the incredible 14-13 victory – in a game that was only four innings due to the time limit. In the top of the first, the Bandits jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Michael Amato got things going with a walk, stolen base and then came around to score on an RBI single by Aiden Perry to left field. This ballgame was far from over at this point – in fact it was just the appetizer. Beast Black responded with three runs in the home half of the first. Anthony Kotarski singled and scored ...
While the pace was slow, the offense was efficient for the Dream Chasers 11u in Saturday’s 13-3 victory over the Plainview Hawks in the ‘Beat the Heat’ tournament at Mitchel Field. The Hawks exhibited a patient offensive approach in the top of the first inning against Dream Chaser’s starter Justin Rotondi. The right-handed pitcher walked three in the first inning and and the Hawks scraped together a run on an errant throw during a pickoff attempt at third base. The lead was short lived, though. the Dream Chasers put together a huge inning. Leadoff batter Izaeya Collado got things going with a walk, stolen base and advanced on a wild pitch. A walk to Jaiden Lopez and a stolen base put two runners in scoring position. Julian Martinez also walked which loaded the bases...
Final: Oil City Bandits 10, Three Village Patriots 5 WP: Tyler Donahui pic.twitter.com/RlxrUJ7LLE — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) August 21, 2020 The Oil City Bandits stayed true to their name and stole a victory this evening after trailing 4-0 entering the bottom of the third inning against the Three Village Patriots to open up the ‘Bring the Heat’ tournament at Plainedge Park. It was all Patriots early, as they jumped out to an early 4-0 lead against the Bandits in the top of the third inning. Their rally got started on a leadoff walk to Ryan Byrne. After an error and a hit by pitch, he scored on an RBI single to left field by Daniel Cornish. They added their second run on an RBI ground out by Ethan Honan. Anthony Boris followed with a routine grounder to second that w...
Final: Dodgers Nation 14, Oil City 1 WP: Zach Sisto pic.twitter.com/hZ7XR9FKVe — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) August 21, 2020 Dodgers Nation 10U opened up their Bring the Heat tournament with a dominating 14-1 victory over Oil City Bandits on Friday afternoon at Plainedge Park. The boys wasted no time getting the bats going into the top of the first when Ethan Sukalic led off with a single and advanced to second on an error. After a walk and a pair of strikeouts, Costa Papoutsakis drove him in with an RBI single. Johnny Bulone hit a grounder to third that appeared to end the inning, but the errant throw allowed two runs to score and extend the lead to 3-0. A single by pitcher Zach Sisto brought up Dylan Mannino who also singled, which opened up a 4-0 lead. Sisto went out and worked...
by Jared Valluzzi Coach Ken Noe on his teams big time victory pic.twitter.com/Ky6h2D3A4a — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) August 20, 2020 The 11U Body Armor Titans have been one of the best teams this summer on Long Island and it showed when they went into action against the South Shore Chiefs on Wednesday night. The Chiefs, who are another team that’s been solid, went into the game knowing they had to score going against a tough Titans team. They were held to two runs the first time they met the Titans but played a very tough game against them. It was the high-powered Titans lineup up to bat in the top of the first inning. Andrew Noe the speedy lead off guy got on base via walk but would then steal second right away. Noe would eventually move over to third base on a ground out brin...
Dodgers Nation get one back on a balk to score Brendan McCann but Jack Flood ends the inning with a strikeout End of 6: B1000 2, Dodgers Nation 1 pic.twitter.com/gjdMxPqCLy — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) August 20, 2020 The first five innings of this game took 58 minutes, as it appeared both teams had a flight to catch. The final two innings dispelled that notion, as the pace slowed significantly. Ultimately, the game ended in a 2-2 tie with Anthony Agosta coming through with a game-tying RBI single in the bottom of the 7th with two outs before the time limit halted this one. The pitching match up was Jack Flood (Mineola 2021) for B1000 Seminoles and Nick Schimmel (Bethpage 2021) for Dodgers Nation in this one. Both pitchers brought their ‘A’ games. Schimmel worked a 1-...
Bay Shore defeats Plainedge, 4-0, to capture the @liboysofsummer Long Island Championship pic.twitter.com/ESy8KM6mtt — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) August 18, 2020 22 years ago, Mike Herbst was a part of possibly the most unlikely playoff run in Long Island history when his Longwood Lion team went from 9-9 to a New York State Class AA Championship. While this summer season is a far cry from the gauntlet of running the table in the Suffolk County Section XI postseason, it did resemble it in terms of the improbability of a championship run. After going 0-8 during the regular season of the LI Boys of Summer varsity division, his Bay Shore team caught fire and ultimately won four consecutive elimination games to win the truncated Long Island Championship. They completed the feat this a...
Walk-off 2-R HR by Tennessee-commit Jake Griffin sends Body Armor Titans United 15U to the finals pic.twitter.com/VVJf1FwxRz — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) August 17, 2020 Big time players step up in big moments and that’s exactly what Tennessee-commit Jake Griffin did in extra innings to send Body Armor Titans United 15U into the finals against B1000 Seminoles. It was a wild back-and-forth game with plenty of twists but ultimately the Titans’ No. 2 hitter and ace pitcher took matters into his own hands. Kyle Popko led off the top of the eighth inning with an infield single to third and moved into scoring position when winning pitcher Nick DiMartino sacrificed him into scoring position with a great bunt. Griffin, who entered the at bat 0-for-3 with three strikeouts, mad...
2020 has taken a lot from us but not all hope was lot. Despite the truncated MLB Draft that eliminated all Long Island players from hearing their names selected, a few players with local ties have still made their way into professional baseball thanks to the post-draft signing period. Corey Phelan (Harborfields 2020) is the latest player to have his dreams of signing professionally come to fruition. Last week the hard-throwing LHP signed a professional contract worth $20,000 with the Philadelphia Phillies. They have done extremely well in locking up local talent thanks in large part to Sal Agostinelli‘s scouting eye and his ties to Long Island. He will join a list of LI’ers that include Nick Fanti, Kyle Young, Ben Brown and Logan O’Hoppe that are in the Phillies organizat...
