John Farina comes through the game winning hit and also earns the W on the mound pic.twitter.com/xQrWBfIsJ0 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 18, 2021 Just a day ago, the Mepham Pirates hosted the Long Beach Marines and took care of them by scoring 15 runs and holding their offense to just three runs. What a difference a day can make.  The Long Beach Marines played host to the Mepham Pirates and offered one of the most exciting games of the day. The game featured a pair of junior right handers facing off against one another. Connor Nooney had the ball for Long Beach, and Aidan Amato got the ball for Mepham. The game was scoreless till the top of the third when Pirate’s leadoff man Charlie Le...

Will Deriso Ties It, Rocco Stola Wins It For Northport In 8-6 Thriller

Final (8 innings): Northport 8, Bay Shore 6 WP: Jason Schwartz Rocco Stola drove in the game winning runs with a 2-run double in the eighth pic.twitter.com/LWJKccIYXo — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 18, 2021 By the time Rocco Stola laced a two-run double to right center field to score the go-ahead runs for Northport, the first inning was nothing but a distant memory. We had already seen a game-tying, two-strike, go-ahead home run in the previous inning and a game-tying error in the previous half inning that briefly put a scare in the Tigers. Northport would go on to hold on, by the score of 8-6 over previously undefeated Bay Shore, to improve to 5-2 on the season. All told, it was an intense game between two outstanding ballclubs on Tuesday afternoon in Bay Shore. The Marauders ...

Big Sixth Inning Propels Bethpage to Come-From-Behind Win Over Mineola

Chris Rimaldi ties the game with a 2-R triple (although it appeared to bounce off the school bus which should’ve been called a home run) pic.twitter.com/WXzRPzRy1V — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 17, 2021 by Joseph Curto On a warm and sunny day in Mineola, we saw two battle tested Nassau High school teams face off in a seesaw affair.  The undefeated Bethpage Golden Eagles took on the home team Mineola Mustangs. The game featured two hard throwing righties as Bethpage gave the ball to Joe Lynn, and TJ Cox got the start for the Mustangs.   In the top of the first inning, Bethpage jumped out to an early 2 run lead. Leadoff hitter Conner Burns started off the game with a hard hit single to left. After Burns stole second, he was brought home on an RBI single from Adelphi commit...

In that year, they lost to Southern New Hampshire 2-0, with future MLB Draft Pick Jonathan Mulford on the mound. They will get another opportunity at Southern New Hampshire next Friday in the NE-10 Championship series – which will be best-of-three up in Manchester, NH to face the No. 20 ranked SNHU Penmen (22-6). Craig Pihlkar Fires Gem, Commack Defeats Schlesinger & Sachem East 5-3

Final: Commack 5, Sachem East 3 WP: Craig Pihlkar S: Jack Cascone pic.twitter.com/o2Q4uLSgXM — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 13, 2021 On a difficulty scale, it doesn’t get much tougher than winning a road game against a lefty flamethrower that’s a likely MLB Draft pick. But when it comes to being afraid or intimidated, that’s just simply not going to happen to Commack. The Cougars pulled off a wildly-impressive 5-3 win against Sachem East with Miami-commit Rafe Schlesinger on the bump throwing gas. Commack, who captured the 2017 County Championship in a similarly difficult match up at West Islip, had their own ace on the mound. With 6’5 RHP UCONN-commit Craig Pihlkar, they can play with anyone. The big righty earned the win, throwing 6 IP, allowing six hi...

Go-ahead 3-R HR by Joey Marchese puts Shoreham-Wading River up 5-3 in the top of the fourth pic.twitter.com/kyV05kSkBA — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 12, 2021 Hits from the bottom of the lineup and lead changes are two signs of a competitive, compelling game of varsity baseball. When you combine the two, it’s even more thrilling. With one swing of the bat, Shoreham-Wading River’s eight-hole hitter, Joey Marchese, gave the Wildcats the 5-3 lead over Mount Sinai. They wound up tacking on two more, and holding on to defeat the Mustangs on the road by the score of 7-5. Marchese stated that he “was standing in the box and looking for a fastball to hit hard – got my pitch and took a good swing and got it out,” said the 6’4 slugger. With the victory...

First starting pitcher Mike Knapp and then reliever Frank Vespa made pitches when their backs were firmly against the wall. They left runners at the corners in the first inning and the third inning, stranded bases loaded in the fourth inning and the sixth inning and runners at 2nd & 3rd in the 7th. They held on by the skin of their teeth by the score of 3-2. Division’s Head Coach Tom Tuttle said that’s what they expect from their staff: “At Division that’s what our pitchers are expected to do – we ta...

Kings Park Outlasts Miller Place in Slugfest 14-11

Final: Kings Park 14, Miller Place 11 WP: Declan Cumming S: Jason Sacks pic.twitter.com/bTNWXUyeXz — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 10, 2021 The beauty of baseball is one day you get shutout and the next you come out and score 14 runs against a perennial playoff team. Kings Park lost a tough one, 1-0, on Saturday against East Hampton‘s ace Colin Ruddy. Just two days later, they bounced right back and put up four runs in the first inning and won a thrilling game in come-from-behind fashion against Miller Place on the road. All told, the game took 3 hours from start to finish but you can take out about 15 minutes for a delay when the home plate umpire had to exit due to an injury he sustained. The field ump wound up changing into the protective gear. That was around 7pm and t...

Connetquot Starts off With a Bang and Recap of Opening Day for Section XI

I mean, you couldn’t have asked for anything more on Opening Day for Section XI baseball. Town of Brookhaven was generous enough to host the Coaches Memorial Opening Weekend which will feature tributes to Carmine Argenziano, Bill Batewell and Bob Ambrosini today – the three coaches who passed away over the previous year. That will take place today at Moriches. As far as the action on the field – it was thrilling and the energy from the dugouts and fans were absolutely electric. You could just feel the excitement and anger from all the emotions the past year. It was relieving to know we arrived at this point – even if many were frustrated with the route it took. In any event, I had a busy day. I drove to Kings Point to watch the Opening Round of the Skyline Conferenc...

Vinny Giambona Fires CG Gem in 10-1 Victory Over Wheatley

Sometimes it just takes a little tough love. Island Trees Head Coach Joseph D’Auria gave his team a stern talking to next to the dugout after they stranded the bases loaded with no out in the second inning and failed to score. Whatever he said paid immediate dividends as Island Trees woke up in the top of the third inning, taking a 2-1 lead on an E5 and an RBI ground out by Connor Waiting. Starting pitcher Vinny Giambona allowed just a run inthe second on a sac fly off the bat of Andrew Thaler. From that point on, he was untouchable. He finished with a CG, allowing just the one run, yielding five hits and striking out six batters. Vinny Giambona fired a complete game allowing just 1 run in a 10-1 victory for Island Trees pic.twitter.com/CA0ozwcjuD — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbasebal...
