by Benjamin Diamond Post Game Interview with Greendogs coach Mike LoGerfo pic.twitter.com/mQ4z1Nri8X — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 23, 2021 The game between the 9u Farmingdale Greendogs and the South Shore Sharks turned into a pitcher’s duel very quickly. After one run was scored for both sides on a wild pitch for the Sharks to take an early lead in the top of the first, the Greendogs responded with an RBI single by Nick Thurston. The pitchers for both sides held the game at a 1-1 stalemate until the bottom of the fifth inning. The starter for the Greendogs, DiBlasi, going 4.0IP, with 3 hits allowed, 1 run, 1 walk, and 9 strikeouts before being replaced by Mike LoGerfo who held the Sharks hitless in two innings of work, striking out 4 and walking 1. On the flip side, Sh...
by Nicholas Cipolla RBI Double for Frankie Kentoffio to knock in two more runs. 9-0 lead for Long Island Strong in the bottom of the 4th pic.twitter.com/hETaN0lniR — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 23, 2021 Long Island Strong proved the old saying “you can’t win with just one guy” wrong today, as they went out and dominated as a team in their 9-1 mercy rule win today against Yeti Baseball. Offensively, the bats showed up in the first inning and didn’t cool off at all throughout the game. The first runs of the game were knocked in on a two out, two run RBI single between third and short by Jackson Vaccariello, who advanced to second on the throw to the plate. The next batter, A.J Giel, reached on a throwing error allowing Vaccariello to score from second. In the next inning, Long...
by Andrew Connors We spoke to Garden City Head Coach Dave Izzo about his thoughts following the 5-3 championship victory pic.twitter.com/knlgdqS1AT — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 20, 2021 There’s nothing better than championship baseball on Father’s Day, and Sunday morning proved that as Garden City and Huntington put on a show that didn’t disappoint. On a day that was as hot as Sunday was, you would expect some teams to come out a little sluggish but that wasn’t the case in this game. The Garden City Trojans jumped on the scoreboard shortly after the first pitch of the game was thrown. They scored two runs in the first inning and showed Huntington that they were going to be aggressive at the plate all day. Huntington didn’t just take the punch and roll over though, they fough...
By Nicholas Cipolla Chris Batuyios strikes out 3 batters to end the game. Mount Sinai wins the Conference V Long Island Championship pic.twitter.com/ZmZmwIGRbW — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 20, 2021 In a game that will be talked about for years to come, Mount Sinai achieved the goal every team on Long Island tries to do at the beginning of the year. And that goal was to win the Long Island Championship In a game full of clutch hitting, spectacular defensive plays, and a little bit of controversy, Mount Sinai outlasted Island Trees winning by a score of 8-6. The game started off like most games do. Max Reichenbach worked around a hit batter to keep Island Trees off the board in the top half of the inning. Robby Stephens did his part by retiring the first three batters he faced...
by Benjamin Diamond Post Game Interview with Anthony LoGiacco: pic.twitter.com/wK372CVGPV — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 19, 2021 Game 1: The first game of the Saturday two game set did not have a lot of fireworks. The pitching in this game took the spotlight. Tri-State Arsenal’s starter Chris Leavey had a day to remember, going 5.0 innings with only 2 walks, 2 strikeouts, no runs allowed and even better, no hits allowed. His start set up the bullpen to only need to take care of two innings to secure the no-hitter. Unfortunately, they were unable to do so when the Tides were able to get two hits in the bottom of the seventh inning while also knocking in the game-tying run locking the game at 1. The game would end in a tie but the pitching was undoubtedly the highlight. ...
It doesn’t get much better than 10 elimination games across Long Island to crown County Champions. Scratch that, it doesn’t get ANY better than that. The games ranged from Sag Harbor to South Side, and the great majority of them were close. I wish I could be at all the games but that’s just not possible, so I took my best guess as to which game to cover. I started at Sachem East, stayed for a few innings and made the short drive to Selden for Newfield’s game. The decision worked out well as Commack got out to an early 4-1 lead then I went to a Newfield and the score was 0-0 in the second inning. Here’s all the action. Nassau III South Side defeated Manhasset, 2-0, on the road behind a complete game, two-hit shutout by Danny Russell. This was a remarkable turn ...
Adelphi-commit Kendall Kendrick pitched the game of his life – 1 hit shutout with 10 strikeouts against perennial powerhouse West Islip to deliver Newfield their first county championship in program history. They will face South Side on Sunday in the LIC pic.twitter.com/DCGrDLMjTY — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 18, 2021 When Eric Joyner took over the Newfield varsity baseball program, he brought a winning pedigree from the football team that had won County Championships in 2011 and 2015. It was a much-needed facelift for a program that hadn’t reached the postseason since 2005. Problem was, they didn’t have quite enough talent or leadership in the program. In 2018, they finally broke the playoff drought but ran into two very tough teams (Connetquot and Smithto...
by Gabe Zoda It was a historical evening of baseball in the Hampton Collegiate Baseball League. The South Shore Clippers took on the Sag Harbor Whalers today at Bellport High School, home of the Clippers. Both teams were coming off of losses in their previous games and both came into tonight’s game 1-1. The Whalers had things rolling on both sides and ended up taking the win 8-5 through 8 innings of baseball. With that said, there was a lot of baseball and it was jam-packed with a ton of big moments and the action started quickly in the 1st. Anthony Martino started off struggling to find the zone as he walked the first 3 batters (Sean Springer, Myles Proctor, Garrett Scavelli). Next up was Kieran Dowd who grounded into a 6-4 fielder’s choice that brought in Springer from 3rd to star...
by Andrew Connors We spoke to Plainedge’s head coach, Colin Fratrick about today’s win as well as what his team plans to do looking ahead at Game 2. pic.twitter.com/Jj3NTBu9Pz — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 16, 2021 The Conference 4 Varsity Baseball Championships kicked off on Wednesday afternoon with the Bethpage Golden Eagles slated to take on the Plainedge Red Devils. The stakes were high and the players’ emotions were running even higher, as both teams made it a point to come out loud, with energy. While Plainedge was able to keep this brand of high-energy baseball going for the duration of the game, Bethpage seemed to fizzle out rather quickly after they fell behind. Both teams were swinging the bat with ferocity out of the gates as they both scored in the first inning, b...
by Nicholas Cipolla Interview with the winning pitcher of tonights game, John Schneider pic.twitter.com/uWj7ZsU0Mb — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 16, 2021 During today’s midweek battle at Stony Brook, the East End Aviators starting pitcher had one big thing on his mind that helped motivate him throughout the game, a test he has to take tomorrow morning. John Schneider told us postgame “I wanted to make it a quick game, I have a big test tomorrow.” and he did just that. Schneider had a great showing tonight, keeping it very quick as he allowed very few runners to reach base and was getting ahead of hitters early in the count. Schneider also received a lot of insurance runs early in the game with a big first inning. A two RBI single by Jackson Loper opened up the scoring for the...
Coltrane Calloway fires a 4-hit shutout and Bay Shore advances to the Suffolk Conference II Finals with a 1-0 win over Connetquot ! pic.twitter.com/FryTZ6oBMO — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 16, 2021 When Mike Herbst announced that this would be his last season at the helm for Bay Shore, I had a feeling they would make it a special year. The Marauders seem determined to fight to the bitter end – as they defeated Connetquot, 1-0, to advance to the Suffolk County Conference II Finals against Huntington on Friday. Ace Coltrane Calloway was lights-out, firing a 4-hit shutout against a tough Thunderbirds lineup. The pitching match up lived up to the hype. Connetquot sent ace LHP Sean Mileti to the hill against Calloway. The lone run that scored in the game came in the first in...
Sac fly by Dante Morabito – Pat Med has completely broken the game open in the fifth pic.twitter.com/ZZ2mjlDHHr — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 15, 2021 As far as no-hit bids go, this one didn’t exactly feel like the usual ones go. Especially in a playoff game between heated league rivals. Partially due to the score and partially due to the traffic on the bases. In any event, Patchogue-Medford sophomore ace Josh Knoth took a no-hitter into the seventh and was one out away from completing the job but a two-out dropped popup prolonged the inning and the next batter, Mikey Mortilla, hit a single up the middle that he beat the throw to first for a clean hit. Knoth was taken out by coach Anthony Frascogna in favor of Tristan Verni, who allowed an RBI single to to the fol...
