Thunder Bats Lead the Way in 16-1 Win over the South Shore Tides

by Nicholas Cipolla There was no shortage of offense for the Thunder this afternoon as they were able to get 16 runs across the plate in a mercy rule victory over the South Shore Tides. After Nick Caroli led off the bottom of the first by reaching on a throwing error, Frank Stella gave his team a 1-0 lead with an RBI Single up the middle. Jake Burlock ripped a two run single of his own to make it a 3-0 affair with no outs in the bottom of the first.  The Tides finally recorded the first two outs when Sean Barodin hit an RBI groundout to make it a 4-0 game.  With two outs in the same inning and runners on second and third, the Tides pitcher made a curious decision to try and pick off the runner at second base. The result was not a good one as the ball skipped into centerfield, allowing the ...

Batting 1.000 defeats LI Storm 11-1 on first day of East Coast Columbus Day Tournament

by Matthew Cataruzolo Westbury, NY — Batting 1000 made a strong first impression with a victory over the LI Storm at Eisenhower Park on Friday night. A rout of offensive firepower combined with a strong pitching performance gave Batting 1000 the advantage and eventually emerge victorious.  Back-to-back one-two-three innings for both teams indicated the possibility of a low scoring game. Batting 1000 starting pitcher Chrish Patel remained virtually unhittable throughout the game, and his offense provided him with plenty of run support. The bottom of the second inning saw a barrage of offensive firepower from Batting 1000. Starting off with a scorching double off the bat of catcher Niko Koutsoftas, followed by a single by Jake Maxwell, Batting 1000 had first and second with one out.  S...

LI Red Dogs defeat LI Thunder 6-1 on first day of East Coast Columbus Day Tournament

by Matthew Cataruzolo Westbury, NY – The LI Red Dogs faced off against the LI Thunder at Eisenhower Park on the first day of the East Coast Columbus Day Tournament.  A pitcher’s duel between Red Dogs pitcher Brandon Scott and Thunder’s Connor Sanders saw just a 1-0 Red Dogs lead for the first four innings. An RBI single by Red Dogs’ Matt Infranco was the game’s only run until the bottom of the fourth inning.   The Red Dogs got a much-needed cushion on their lead when Tyler Giordano crushed a two-run home run over the left field wall off Thunder reliever Matt Biscardi. Red Dogs now led 3-0 after four innings.  Tyler Giordano smacks a two-run home run to left field and puts the Red Dogs up 3-0 here in the bottom of the fourth inning. pic.twitter.com/4QfQZ9o3K9 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessba...

SFX Huskies and Blue Devils Battle to 2-2 Tie

by Gabe Zoda After the game, we were able to speak to Zach Thielen of the SFX Huskies to talk to us about his performance on the mound today. (4IP, 6KS, 0 BBs, 1H) pic.twitter.com/hYTgJAd6B1 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) October 3, 2021 In sports, there is usually a team that wins and then there is the team that loses, But on a Sunday when almost every NY team won the rules seem to fade a little. This LI Boys of Summer Matchup between the SFX Huskies and the Blue Devils proved exactly that. This game would go the distance and end in a 2-2 draw with many defensive plays that made that happen. Along with the defense, the pitching always came in to get out of jams and shut the door.  In this low scoring game, the scoring for the Huskies started off in the 1st inning where they scored...

Mayhem Cruises Past Kings Park, 15-5

by Gabe Zoda Baseball can end up being a game of runs, and this game between the Kings Park Knights and Mayhem Baseball definitely showed this. This game would end up only going 4 innings with a final score of 15-5.  It started pretty good for the Kings Park Knights as they took the first game of the DH and started off the 2nd game well after they scored 2 runs in the first inning.  Noah Padilla, the leadoff batter for the Knights, started things off with a single. He would then steal 2nd and 3rd to get himself in a perfect spot to score. Dylan Schor sealed the deal one batter later with an RBI single to center field.  Dylan stole 2nd and then moved over to 3rd on a groundout. This put him in a spot to score on almost anything. That opportunity would present himself in the form of a passed...

Steven Hardiman, Shane Linett Pitch Next Level Past Knights Nation 3-1

by Vinny Messana Baseball is a game of inches, and it was evident in the sixth inning between Next Level and Knights Nation MXE. With runners on second and third and one out, Chris Critchley grounded one to shortstop. Knights’ runner JJ Palumbo was running on contact and had a good jump. Next Level SS made an accurate throw to home and it was a very close play. To the naked eye, it was tough to tell but the umpire called him out at the plate. Upon further review, the runner appeared to have gotten under the tag but without the benefit of review, this was simply an out. The next batter grounded out to SS to end the inning to keep the score at 2-1. Next Level added an insurance run in the home half of the sixth to end with a final of 3-1. The play was a critical moment since the Knight...

Titans Quattrini Shutout Team Steel McMurray, 12-0

Titans Quattrini are among the top teams in the country at their age group and they played like that in the opening game of the 17/18u Northeast Elite. They shutout Team Steel McMurray, 12-0, in just four innings thanks to their high-octane offense. When asked if they always score this many runs, one of the players simply replied, “yup.” It was just another day at the office, as they look to add to their collection of hardware this weekend. St. Thomas Aquinas-commit Ryan Callaghan got the start for the Titans and he fired a 1-2-3 first inning to get his offense in the dugout on this chilly fall evening. They immediately scored three runs. Melo Musacchia led off with a triple (albeit misplayed fly ball) to right field to start the game. A wild pitch scored him for the first run ...

Game 1 It was another beautiful weekend for baseball, where we saw the South Shore Sharks take on the Midville Dodgers in a doubleheader. Both teams came out determined to make a statement and come home with a win, displaying a high level of energy and focus early on. Out of the gates, the game was an immediate thriller. The Sharks put up 5 quick runs in the first inning, but the Dodgers responded with their own outburst of 5 runs. An inning came and went, and seemingly with the flip of a switch, the Sharks began taking over the game. And we have our first runs of the game! Jonathon Hayes belts one to left-centerfield and comes all the way around to score with a 3-run HR! pic.twitter.com/JjrwdfuZOY — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) September 25, 2021 Sharks’ standout Jonathon Hayes ha...

Sharks vs. Freedom Ends in 3-3 draw in Extra Innings

by Matthew Cataruzolo Massapequa, NY — The Sharks squared off against Freedom Baseball at Plainedge Park in an 11u matinee showdown.  What began as a pitcher’s duel, developed into a nail biter that saw neither team emerge victorious.  Andrew Campon took the mound for the Sharks against the visiting Freedom. Campon avoided trouble after surrendering two singles to Nico Hendrickson and Jack McAllister.  Hendrickson was on the bump for the Freedom and dealt a quick one-two-three inning.   Joe Lentini opened the scoring in the top of the second inning with an inside-the-park home run to put the Freedom up 1-0. In an early hole, the Sharks came to bat looking to answer back. Hendrickson kept the Sharks scoreless through two and a half innings, while the Freedom piled on two more runs cou...

14u LI Titans Take Down The East Meadow Mustangs, 12-0

by Andrew Connors Another 2 runs come across for the Titans with Matt Francisco’s RBI single through the right side of the infield. pic.twitter.com/ogD5qgyHC4 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) September 18, 2021 Saturday afternoon was the textbook definition of a perfect day for baseball, as we had some 14u Boys of Summer action between the LI Titans Robles and the East Meadow Mustangs. The Mustangs entered play with a record of 1-2, while this was the second game of the year for the 1-0 LI Titans. Gabe Newman was the starting pitcher for the East Meadow Mustangs, but the Titans jumped on him immediately. The Titans put up six runs in the first inning by way of five hits, 2 of which being extra base hits. However, Neman settled in and redeemed himself, pitching a very quick 2nd inning...
