Molloy Dominates St. Thomas Aquinas

Molloy absolutely dominated both sides of the diamond today, earning them a 17-2 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas at Provident Bank Park in Pomona, NY. Molloy improves to 11-18(5-4 ECC) while top seeded St. Thomas falls to 16-8(6-3 ECC). After the Spartans jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Lions exploded for 14 runs over the next six. Juan Borbon went 2-2 with two walks, scored four runs and four RBI’s, three of which off a bases loaded triple to spark the offensive outburst in third inning. Shortstop Kris Kelly only had one hit, but walked three times and scored all four times he reached base. Old Westbury Wins a Tight One Against Manhattanville

The Old Westbury Panthers out-pitched Manhattanville College in a 3-2 pitchers duel on Tuesday at Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. In this non-conference game, Old Westbury improves to 8-11, while the Valiants drop to 5-15. Manhattanville opened the third inning with three straight singles, allowing them to jump ahead with a 2-0 lead. Old Westbury answered back in the bottom of the third with an RBI fielders choice by Centerfielder, Jacob Coners. It stayed 2-1, until the bottom of the sixth, where the Panthers pounced to a 3-2 lead. The two runs were scored from a sac-fly and an error from the shortstop. Frank DiMaria improves to 2-1, tossing seven innings, striking out six and walking none. He was able to limit the damage by averaging one hit per inning, three of which came in the third....

Adelphi Loses Slugfest to Kutztown

Photo is credited to KUBears.com The Adelphi Panthers dropped a 16-10 slugfest to No. 13 ranked Kutztown of Pennsylvania. Matt Abramowitz was the pitcher on the long side as he drops to 0-3 on the season. The bright spots for the Panthers was Brandon Stahl’s 4-4 performance as well as a three hit and five RBI day from first baseman Anthony Zarrella. Freshman Jonathon Mulford got the start for the Panthers, he had previously been untouchable through his first 23 innings. He was touched up for nine hits and seven runs in four innings of work. Abramowitz came on and gave up two runs in his one inning of work. Adelphi scored two runs in the ninth inning but at that point it was too little too late as the Panthers fell to 11-12-1. Hofstra Wins Eighth in a Row

Photo is credited to GoHofstra.com The Pride won their eighth game in a row on Wednesday with an 11-2 win over NYIT. It is Hofstra’s longest winning streak since 1995. NYIT took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a bases loaded walk by Greg Sarra. He ended up settling down in his first collegiate start to throw three innings without allowing an earned run. The Pride ended up posting three-run innings in the second, fourth and eighth innings to take a commanding lead. The offense was led by Matt Reistetter who had three hits and six RBI. Robbie Cafiero and Austin Nyman also posted multiple hit days and recorded an RBI. Nick Kozlowski tossed three scoreless innings in relief and John Schilt closed it out. The Pride move to 13-16 on the season and NYIT falls to 2-19.

Matt Crohan Tosses Back-to-Back No-Hitters for Riverhead

Matt Crohan, a senior at Riverhead High School began the season by tossing a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts against one of the top offenses in Suffolk County; East Islip. Most pitchers would’ve been satisfied with that outcome, but Crohan is not like most pitchers. The Jamesport native raised the bar with today’s performance in which he no-hit League-IV rival Centereach and added 18 strikeouts. That feat has only been accomplished in the Major Leagues once and it was in 1938 by Vander Meer. For those keeping score at home, that is 14 hitless innings with 33 strikeouts to begin his season year. Stony Brook: The Seawolves fell to Marist in Poughkeepsie, NY by a score of 12-6. In uncharacteristic fashion, Stony Brook made six errors which gave starting pitcher Tyler Honahan the bizarre pitching line of 2.1 IP, 3 hits, 4 R, 0 ER. He was charged with the defeat as he falls to 0-4 on the season. The Seawolves scored five runs over the final three innings, but it was not enough. Jack Parenty and Cole Peragine both drove in two runs in the defeat. Adelphi: The Panthers lost 6-2 to Pace University in Garden City, NY to fall back to .500 at 11-11-1. Dowling Sweeps Molloy

The pitching staff did a phenomenal job during the series as they held Molloy to one run in each of the four games. The bats did just enough to win, averaging just over two runs per game. In the first game, Tyler Badamo tossed a gem of a complete game while allowing only three hits, one run and 10 strikeouts. He improved his record to 2-2 on the season. At the plate, JC Brandmaier drove in both runs for the Golden Eagles with an RBI single in the fourth and a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Stony Brook’s Zamora Named America East Rookie of the Week

Photo is credited to goseawolves.org California native Daniel Zamora of Stony Brook has been named America East Rookie of the Week for his performance this past weekend. In Saturday’s victory of UMBC the freshman tossed 6.1 innings, allowing five hits, two walks, one run while striking out nine. The Seawolves won both games of the double header with Frankie Vanderka winning the first game. For the season, Zamora had gotten off to a difficult start losing his first five decisions but he may have turned his season around with that victory. Stony Brook is currently 4-5 in the America East and 9-17 overall. They take on Marist tomorrow.

In Game 1 Frank DiMaria lost his no-hit bid in the seventh inning, but ended up allowing three runs as Oneonta came from behind to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 lead. The Panthers totaled only two hits in the game which were by Steve Mare and Brandon Stein. DiMaria suffered the hard luck loss to fall to 1-1 on the season. They were held scoreless after that and nearly saw their lead slip away. LeMoyne posted three runs in the fourth and four runs in the seventh. Closer Dillon McNamara came on to put out the fire for his fifth save, this time tossing 1.1 spotless innings while striking out three. Chris Pabisch was the winner for the Panthers as he threw five innings while allowing three runs to improve to 3-1 on the season.
