With the 2025 season right around the corner, now is a good time to discuss the top local prospects. It’s important to note that with MLB cutting the rounds from 40 to 20, it has had a tremendous impact on local players. That third day, rounds 21-40 was the sweet spot were the majority of the Long Island natives would be selected.
There are certainly outliers, as players like Rafe Schlesinger and Nick Roselli were drafted last year. They were able to excel at the collegiate level and get selected in the earlier rounds. Our local school players may have a difficult time getting drafted under this format, but it is important to note that after 3 years of college they may be even more complete players than they were before.
With that being said, here’s my take on the top local high school players.
