When these two teams meet, it is generally a very entertaining and exciting game – and this was no exception. With Rocky Point leading 4-3 and the potential tying run on third, Brody Tellier gave one a ride to deep left center field, Jackson Marte made the catch at the fence to seal the win and the series victory.
Rocky Point sent RHP Vito Spadafina to the hill against freshman Nate Lewis of Sayville. The hometown nine got on the board first in the bottom of the first on an E5 that scored Kyle Messina. Spadafina was able to avoid further damage with a fly out to right field off the bat of Tommy Robilotta.

The teams traded zeros in the second and third innings, and sent the game into the fourth which was where the bulk of the action occurred.
In the top of the fourth, after the first batter was retired, Dom Pavlicko reached on a single to left field and advanced to second on a walk to Colin Ark. After a flyout to center and another walk, Pavico scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at one. Sayville went to the bullpen, bringing in sophomore Grady Valenti. He was greeted rudely by Ryan Loughlin who ripped a two-out, two run double to left to give Rocky Point a 3-1 lead.

The lead would not last long, as Brody Tellier reached on an error to start the inning. After a pop out to the catcher, Robilotta singled to right field and Patrick Coan followed with a single of his own. The following batter, Dylan Kent, hit a grounder to first but it allowed a run to score to make it 3-2. A wild pitch scored Robilotta and evened the score at 3-3.
In the top of the fifth, Tyler Maggio reached on a bloop single to center field and he was sacrificed to second base by Spadafina. After a ground out to shortstop sent the runner to third, Pavlico hit a grounder to second that took a bad hop that got past the second baseman and allowed the go-ahead run to score.

Spadafina did his job, firing a scoreless fifth inning – with a little bit of luck involved. After Shane Meehan hit a two-out double, the next batter, Brody Tellier, ripped a single through the left side that looked like it would, at the very least, be a close play at the plate. The runner slipped rounding third and preventing him from scoring. The ensuing batter grounded out to second to keep the score 4-3 in favor of Rocky Point.
Valenti fired a scoreless sixth inning with the help of a strong throw from his left fielder, Tyler Brown, to nail a runner at third trying to tag up to end the inning.
A 1-2-3 inning in the sixth would send the game to the seventh, where Rocky Point threatened to score but stranded two runners with a fly out to right to end the inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, freshman Aidan Devane ripped a ball off Spadafina’s leg to reach back safely. That was it for Spadafina, who gave way to Tyler Callahan. Devane score to get himself into scoring position. After a fly out to right and a ground out to first, a two-out walk put runners on 1st and 3rd with two out. Tellier put a good swing on the ball and drove it to left center but it was caught at the track to end the game.
“It was good that we got the win yesterday and that we got the win today – it was a big two wins,” said Spadafina.
With the victory, Rocky Point improved to 5-4 on the season while Sayville dropped to 7-5. The standings are clustered in League VI, with each team trailing Islip who sits atop with a record of 6-3. The reigning champs, Kings Park, are right in the mix at 7-5. Rocky Point will face Islip next week, while Sayville will face Mount Sinai.
