It was an action-packed weekend for these six local teams as the college season rages on. Let’s see how it all went down on Friday.
Division I:
Northeastern 10, Stony Brook 4
The Huskies pounced on Eddie Smink early, getting a solo homer from Harrison Feinberg in the second inning. While Smink settled down from there, Northeastern scored another four in the fifth, courtesy of three long balls.
Stony Brook fought back as RBIs from Scott Gell, Brett Davino and Matt Miceli got the Seawolves within one at 5-4.
However, the Stony Brook bullpen struggled, surrendering five combined runs in the eighth and ninth innings to cap off a 10-4 loss.
Jack Doyle led the way for Northeastern, hitting a pair of home runs as part of a 3-for-5 day. Jack Goodman also had three hits and a home run while Will Fosberg and Gregory Bozzo each had a pair of hits.
Davino and Miceli knocked two hits each, both picking up an RBI. Gell went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a double.
Avien Cabrel got the start for the Huskies, going six plus innings, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six.
Game two from Joe Nathan Field is Saturday at 1 p.m.
Fordham 13, Richmond 9
The Rams improved to 5-2 in Atlantic-10 conference play with a win with a late comeback. Richmond led 8-4 entering the ninth, but Fordham broke out for nine runs in the final inning.
Tommy McAndrews got them within two on a two-run homer, before Daniel Bucciero plated a run with a single. With the bases loaded, Andrew Kanellis flipped the scoreboard with a two-run single, making it 9-8 Rams. Kanellis then crossed the plate on a wild pitch ahead of a three-run shot by Chase Hanawalt which made it 13-8 Fordham.
Richmond put up a run in the bottom of the ninth as it tried to put together a rally of its own, but a home run by Jack Arcamone was all it would get.
Hanawalt led the Fordham offense, going 3-for-4 with a double, home run, two runs scored and three RBIs. Taylor Kirk, Matt Dieguez and Tommy Markey each had two hits while Kirk slammed a home run as well.
Phil Bernstein, Jordan Jaffe and Arcamone each had a pair of hits for Richmond with all three of them leaving the yard. Connor Larson also went deep.
Game two from Richmond, Va. is set for Saturday at 1 p.m.
William & Mary 10, Hofstra 9
Hofstra actually grabbed the lead in the fifth inning, as Tyler Cox crushed a three-run homer to make a 4-3 deficit into a 6-4 lead. From there, the Pride added on. Dylan Palmer created a run after a bunt induced an error by the Tribe, allowing a run to score.
After William & Mary scored in the sixth, Luke Maisuk left the yard and Michael Craig doubled home a run to extend Hofstra’s lead to 9-5.
From there, it all went sideways. Derek Holmes ripped a two-run double to halve the Pride’s advantage before he stole home to cut the score to 9-8. In the eighth inning, the Tribe scored twice, as Ben Parker singled home the tying run. Then, Anthony Greco brought Parker home with a single of his own to give William & Mary a 10-9 lead, which they would hold onto.
Cox was responsible for much of Hofstra’s scoring, going 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Mike Sweeney also had two hits.
Parker went 3-for-5 for the Tribe with a double and two runs scored. Greco had two hits, as did Lucas Carmichael and Jamie Laskofski. Holmes went 1-for-5 with two RBIs.
The middle game of the weekend will be on Saturday at 3 p.m.
LIU 10, Villanova 7
Long Island University jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning thanks to an RBI double by Jack Power, who had a huge offensive game. Joe Durso added a two-run single to increase the lead to 3-0.
Garrett Yawn was outstanding on the mound for the Sharks. He fired 7 innings, allowing three runs on just three hits. He yielded just one walk and struck out three.
The Sharks had extended their lead to 6-0 in the 7th inning when Power hit his first of two home runs.
Max Samson’s 3-run shot turned out to be crucial as it gave the Sharks a 9-3 lead, which they needed every bit of.
Villanova’s bats came to life in the late innings, scoring three runs in the seventh and four runs in the eighth to cut it to 9-7, but that’s as close as they’d get. Jack Power added his second homer of the game and 11th of the season to make it 10-7.
Christian Yoo fired a scoreless 9th inning for his first save of the season.
For the Sharks, Power led the way going 3-for-4 with the two homers and 3 RBIS. Tyler Benick added three hits and scored a run, while Samson had two hits and 3 RBIs.
Game 2 will be this afternoon at 1pm in Villanova, PA.

The Knights scored early and often, putting up three runs in the first two innings. After Staten Island got on the board in the third with two runs, Queens dropped another two in the fourth.
Matt Filip drove in the fourth Knights’ run with a single before Penn Sealey brought home a run with a ground ball to make it 5-2.
After Staten Island scored a run to keep it close in the fifth, Queens put the game away in the seventh and eighth innings. Leo Alvarez picked up an RBI in the seventh with a single and scored on a throwing error by Michael Kehoe. In the eighth, Filip picked up another two RBIs with a single to make it 9-3.
Robert Jacobsen went 3-for-5 with a double. Sealey went 3-for-4 with a double, scored a run and drove in two while also drawing a walk.
Staten Island only recorded a single hit all day, as Nate Rodriguez twirled 6 ⅔ innings of no-hit ball out of the Knights bullpen.
The two sides will continue their series with a double header on Saturday starting at noon.

Unfazed, Kiernan Caffrey belted a go-ahead solo shot to lead off the bottom of the ninth, walking it off for the Yellow Jackets.
In game two, American International flexed its muscles by scoring seven runs in the first four innings. Adelphi tied the game with four runs in the top of the sixth, capped off by a two-run triple by Alex Rende. The Yellow Jackets responded with five of their own in the home half of the inning, going up 12-7.

Welsh homered in the third to make it 3-0. Molloy scored another two in the following frame to take a 5-0 lead.
Mercy scored two runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, taking a 6-5 lead into the ninth. Molloy did not go down easy as Sean Serrano tied the game with an RBI single. Then, Aidan Larkin drove in the go-ahead score with a ground out. Dagnello gave the Lions an insurance run, singling home Serrano to put Molloy up 8-6.
Welsh went 2-for-3 with the home run and a pair of walks. Dagnello drove in two runs while Patrick Sanchez went 2-for-4, having a double, a walk and a run scored.
Three different Mercy players had multiple hits.
